Many cars are made out of part bins and thus share controls. I remember my dads MK1 Punto had the same heating controls as a Ferrari 456.
My dads Fiesta shares some of the same switches as a DB7.
My Corsa's switch gear seem to be from:-
Steering wheel - Astra G, Zaferia
Stalks - MK3 Cavilier, Lotus Elise, Astra F, Astra G
Fog light/main beam switches - MK3 cav but possible found on the Carlton too.
Gear level - Vectra MK1
Electric window switches - Vectra but probably also found in other Opal cars
Rear head rests - Were also included in the Corsa C.
I always find it fasinating how a lot of cars are just made out of other cars. British leyland were of course experts at this. Read more
Hi All,
My 2003 3I8ISE car went into limp mode showing EML DSC, BRAKE lights. When I restarted the car It would not to idle ok, it revs itself. I used an OBDII reader and got the following:
P1634 :Throttle Valve Adaptation; Spring Test Failed
what's involved
Am scared of being ripped off.
Thanks

the cranck case test passed ..
the car now sounds ok though.. no idle problems no EML lights
I did another read out and it showed
P0121 TPS/Pedal Position Sensor A CKT Range/Perf
P0120 TPS/Pedal Position Sensor A Circuit Malfunction
It all seems to be pointing at the Throttle -ish
My brother was driving my car the other day and while reversing, went into lamp post which damaged the car from the passenger side quite badly. I don't think its worth repairing so I'm thinking I'll put it through my insurance (No Claims is protected).
I think the car would be a total lost as its an old car and I can't imagine insurance would be bothered to fix the car.
Looking at what to buy and I quite like the Accord. Thinking of getting 2.0 hatchback. My budget is around £1500 and there are quite a few available around that price mark. Anyone got any experience with this car? As its Honda, I'm presuming it'll be a reliable car. Mrs has got Honda Civic with 1.6 VTEC engine and its been spot on so far.

Thanks for all your replies so far. I'm glad most of you agree Accord is the best car to get with my budget. As for the car being thirsty it won't be an issue. I only do 20 miles round trip commuting daily and odly drive to Leeds and Manchester. Mrs has got smaller car which would be used for shopping etc..
As for premium going up, it went up a bit this year anyway even though I haven't made any claims for past 3 years. I know the premium would go up but I don't think it'll affect me as much as it will if I get this car fixed myself.
I am looking for breakers for a gearbox for the Toyota Camry. Does anyone know a website that asks all the breakers for parts to save on leg work? Is there a motorcycle one around as well as I am looking for a few bits and pieces.
I am lookinfto fit a new gearbox in a 1991 toyota camry so I need a working one obviously. Read more
I think the OP has the only manual Camry ever sold in the UK :)
In all seriousness there are only 12 listed on Autotrader and only 2 of those are manual.
The good news is that one of them is only £200. If it has a good gearbox, this might be the best thing to do, make 1 good car from 2.
Hi Guys,
I tried to find a solution via a search & did not succeed. So here we go!
Mine is a Renault Scenic 80 Dinamique 1.5 cdi (2005 Reg). These days when I get in to the car in the evening, I find a lot of moisture (water, I would say) inside the windscreen. I use the hot air blower to get rid of this. But gets fed up & end up wiping away which leaves water marks.
I am sure this is not normal, as the others who are parked in the same car park (this is very cold car park surrounded by trees/bushes) don?t seem to have this problem as I do.
I have asked this from Renault users as well. Someone suggested me to remove the Sucttle panel & check the pollen filter & so on. I took this to my garage & they were not so keen on it...Before I take it to another...I am just checking with you guys...
Please let me know what you think if you have come across this before.
Many Thanks
Bud

Thanks to everyone.
I tried it this morning. It cleared it a bit better. But still takes a good 05 minutes I'd say.
Anyway, will continue to do this & see.
Best Regards
I was always under the impression that with a Turbo Diesel car (possibly petrol turbo too) that before switching off the car you let it idle a while to prevent turbo wear.
Will this issue have been addressed by manufacturers of Stop/Start cars or will we see a high number of turbo failures.
Or is my original impression old hat? Read more
RTFM-there are usually ways of disabling this function.
I wonder if this will fall into the "drink for your friendly dealer tech" category, along with disabling DRLs, auto locking and other nonsense.
I know someone who has put 76,000 miles on a 320d with Efficient Dynamics, and so far 100% reliable, (and he STILL hasn't managed to catch it out despite consciously trying).
hi all,
I recently ran through some deep flood water in my car, some of which found it's way in to my engine and hence I was forced to have a replacement engine fitted through my insurance. Whilst the garage had the vehicle they 'kindly' decided to replace the clutch for me as they believed it to be on it's way out. They carried out this action without asking and then refused to release the car till the full ammount had been settled. Frustrating at first but I came to terms with the idea that this was for the best, now not 1000 miles later than having this work done the bearings in my gearbox have gone because the oil has leaked out. The garage now does not want to know and is expecting me to pay the full cost of repair, I'm left wondering how the two incidents can be untelqted and why I should have to pay for what to me appears to be a fault somehow related yo the works they carried out?
any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated
thank you

Any significant oil stains on the ground where you normally park your car?
Ford Fiesta Finesse 1998, 1.3 efi endura-e
I was travelling along the M8 at around 2am the other morning, in my mk4 1998 Ford Fiesta (1.3 endura-e), the car had shown no signs whatsoever that there was a problem, as I had travelled 90miles prior to this in one go. As the motorway came to a junction where it splits(M9 SPUR) and I had to brake firmly down to around 40mph and went down into fourth gear, when I applied the accelerator to go round the vebd the engine stalled and the car rolled to a halt on the hard shoulder, I was quite stumped as there was no warning. I located the fuse on the side of the road and changed it for a replacement 15A fuse (this was fuse number 28 in the auxiluary fuse box under the bonnet) the fuse supplies the engine mannagement system. The car started with no problems and I decided to get going whilst the car was running, I travelled annother 2.5 miles and once I was about one third of the way across the Forth Road Bridge Northbound when the same problem occured, the rev counter dropped to 0 and the engine stalled again, this being one of the least convenient places in the entire country to break down, since there is no hard shoulder. The police showed up after a minute of 2 and by this time I had the bonnet up and was replacing the fuse again, since it had fused again. The car only travelled about ten yards this time and stalled almost immediately. Once the towtruck dropped me and the car off at the layby after the bridge, I toiled and toiled serching all the visible wiring and unplugging the ascosiated sensors (camshaft pos. sensor, throttle pos. sensor, mass air flow sensor, EGR solenoid, the fuel pump and both the 'power on' and 'fuel pump' relays, having not had any luck with any of these, and also the fuel injectors were working correctly also. I had deduced that it had to be an short circuit somewhere shorting against the body of the car somewhere, but this could be anywhere on the car at all. after I got towed home to burntisland, I had almost used up all my spare fuses, and all that I had left was a 30A fuse, double the correct rating, so I plugged it in and switched the ignition on, testing the m.a.f sensor and I noticed a small wisp of smoke and the unmistakable smell of burning pvc, coming from just under the air intake and m.a.f sensor. I switched the ignition off quickly and removed the passenger side headlamp unit and grille from the car. I then unplugged the sensor above the air filter(2pin plug) and the larger plug that supplies the mass air flow sensor, on this grouping of wires, which is taped up with black heatshrink tape, was resting at one point against one off the chassis rails where it comes out to secure the bumper to, but it was very sharp at the top of the chassis rail where the cable was resting under the air intake unit, obviously this sharp weld has been chaffing at the wires forr the last 11 and a half years and just wore through completely the other day. I had to chop and crimp a new set of wiring from the point where the short had occured the heat had caused the cables to fuse together partially.
The reason I felt the need to post this thread was that it took me two days nearly working with a meter and haynes wiring schematics and it was one little short on one wire that caused me all that bother. It also occured to me that this must be a common fault on mk4 fiestas(and possibly the mk5's aswell) since the donor car that I took the replacement wiring from was starting to chaff also and given time would have ended up with the same problem as myself. there also did not seem to be one other person that had had the exact same problem as me when I was searching for a thread that may have related to me yesterday, it really is a big problem when your engine management system develops a fault because the circuit in question(28)aux.fusebox supplies many things, and all of which are essential to the engine's running. i have just purchased a 309 gti 1.9. the engine was running very nice, smooth and was firing up every time. the next day i was sorting out a few of the bits that needed doing and had the engine running for a while. while i was fixing the clip hoding the fuse board up the engine cut right out as if someone had turned the ignition off, was very strange. since then the car has not started, it will turn over but will refuse to fire. i looked to see if i had pulled anything out in the fuse board an noticed a tiny little switch up in there that had quite obviously been added to the car.
the car does have an immobilizer near the ignition, the type you put a fob to, so i was unsure what this mystery switch was. after lots of messing round im 99% sure it was some kind of fuel pump immobilizer as when i connected some wires together could hear it working. this still didnt get it started.
i have tried everything i can think of, checked the spark, thats good. checked there is fuel getting to the injectors by disconnecting the pipe and turning it over, there was a healthy stream of petrol squirting out. took the plugs out and checked spark again, this time pouring a little fuel into each bore. still, not even a pop out of the engine.surely fuel + spark = fire?
any ideas would be muchly appreciated as im totally clueless as to what is going on. as for the mystery switch, could it just be throwing me off from the actual problem and has nothing to do with it? ive heard that it could be injector regulator but even with fuel in the bore there is nothing.
many thanks Read more
I'm thinking of buying a 3 series (2004) 330d saloon. Car is automatic, full black leather, one owner and has done 106k miles. On sale at a dealer for £7990.
Is this a good price and what do I need to look out for? Are there any 'big' services due soon? Read more
A lot of E46 & E39 3.0d's with the right spec are currently going 1000-1500 over book at auction at the moment so anyone who thinks they'll find a cheap one is kidding themselves (unless it is wrong colour, spec or dodgy history).
BMW use standard ZF & GM autoboxes (I think GM in the diesel) so they are no more, or no less, reliable than a long list of cars using the same autoboxes.
Injectors can give trouble about 120k - check for any misfire or uneven running, as with any TD the turbo can be a weak spot. Also investigate swirl flaps - loads on the 'net.

Have you ever been to India? Tata cars may have their faults but they are extremely robust-they have to be survive the horrors that are known as 'roads' in India. If I were in India I'd much rather have a Tata than anything else-in some countries its not luxury or refinement that matters but the ability to survive!
