Hi, where is the cheapest place to buy a maf sensor for my 2001 Renault Scenic 1.9 dci?
I've seen some on ebay for about £50 but are they ok?
Has anyone bought one off ebay?
Cheers

Diesel DTi. Can anyone confirm whether the drive on this is belt or chain ? Also, I'd like an idea of cost of replacement, whether it's best to also replace the water pump at the same time and, if so, the likely combined cost. Many thanks. Read more
Chain.No need to ever change.
I was struck with an article in "The Daily Telegraph", reporting people's "top 20 smells". Two motoring-related ones were listed:
TOP 20 SMELLS WHICH MAKE BRITS HAPPY
15. Petrol
20. Rubber tyres
I add one of my own - EP90.

"Hot road tar has a certain something."
ISTR when I was young that open roadworks (e.g. when the pavement was being dug up) was really stinky - not noticed this for years. Maybe there was a cracked sewer in my vicinity...
Are they really any better??
COS the only one I am aware of at work here, who runs the local road safety awareness courses, parks, sorry scrub that .......ABANDONS.........his car in a most slovenly manner outside the portakabin centre front, but slewed around & so obstructs the traffic flows at our depot.
He was most put out when I queried his lack of consideration.

Depends - like all things in life it's imperfect and the odd member may be a bad egg. Pointless to judge a group of people by the example of one.
Hi The air bag warning light stays on on my car, is there a common fault on these cars and do I need a tool to turn it off, anyone have any ideas, thanks Read more
Friend of mine (no he's not my hairdresser) had the airbag light come on in his Z3 recently - on the way back from the Controle Technique (MOT test) as it happens.
The BMW main dealer just re-set it during the a service a couple of days later, didn't make an issue of it and it hasn't come back on since.
Hi
My 306 has been intermittently not starting once parked & switched off, it didnt happen everytime just occasionally. This is happening every so often but only ever since my car got broken into, so 2 weeks later "today" the car was turning over fine but just wouldnt start so called RAC out to find the fault he ended up saying the fuel pump had gone and it needs replacing. BUT I have been wondering if the fuel pump has a feed from the immobiliser system hence cutting the fuel pump off?
.*********
If so then the fuel pump may not be nackered I may just have to take the drivers door card off and check the connections etc etc.
So does anyone know if the fuel pump has some sort of connection to the immobiliser?

I bought a Suzuki Swift for my dad from auction on Friday evening. The car was advertised with power steering. But it actually doesn't have power steering.
Would you please let me know what options do I've now? I'm thinking of contacting the auction people tomorrow but want to be prepared. This is the first time I've bought a car from auction.

That's a good result - well done.
Hi All
Im looking for some advice on a used car to purchase, i have recently decided that i will be doing a lot of traveling around the place and i will be doing a lot of travel in europe. Me and my friends will be traveling long distances and some of our planned journeys will include UK to Finland (1800miles) London to Paris, and UK to Alps etc... you get the idea, some long journeys planned.
I plan on purchasing a used car with a Max of £2000 and i want to get the best for my cash.
I will be looking for fuel economy, reliability, and most of all Safe and comfortable. I have had a look at some estate cars, people carriers etc but so much choice and i need some advice on what i should really be looking for. Has any one driven long distances for the same price? and how did you get on?
What cars would you lean towards and what would you avoid?
Many thanks!

Avensis. My parents have had one since new in 1998, and it has never missed a beat with regular servicing. £1k should cover you nicely, leaving you £1k for repairs/consumables associated with the miles you talk about.
If not, consider a Camry of similar vintage (v.cheap but not many around). For some reason unloved on UK shores.
I agree with Altea Ego though, train is a far better option.

I have a 1998 xantia 1.9td hatch, it has developed an excessive fluid leak from the drivers rear sphere, it appears to be coming from the base of the sphere.. could this be a broken seal?? if so can they be replaced? cheers, Read more
Could be that the sphere is loose, try screwing it in, if its tight, yes, it will be the seal.

No idea how much it will cost but these people can remanufacture / refurbish most stuff:
