Cmonyawns

Just bought a second hand Fiesta with only 15k on the clock from a dealer. It was serviced before we collected on Christmas Eve. Noticed on the drive home that it cut out when foot on clutch going around a round-a-bout with loss of power, power steering stopped as a result. When clutch let out engine started again and all was well from there. Same thing happened (at same round-a-bout) last night when daughter was driving. I?m going to give the dealer a ring but any ideas?

Could be one or two things. Perhaps the most likely is a defective ECT (engine coolant temp sensor) if it only cuts out when cold.
The dealer can pull out fault codes and perhaps keep the car overnight and look at live data from a cold start.

hello
i bought a used jeep grand Cherokee overland a few months back. its a damn good car but lacks the xeon lights that i have on my merc.

i've looked a 'hid' lights but like the straightforward swap over to phillips extreme 80%= bulbs

the car jeep handbook is not clear and states my dip bulbs are 9006 - some sites show the H4 & others the H11.

my jeep was first registered in march 2009.

there is a distinct lack of jeep forums. Read more

Most (not all I agree) lighting problems are aim rather than product problems!

As many have said, brighter lights = more glare for others !

Now that is a problem I consider needs tackling by the police (but accept they are busy rounding up all the smokers to get them banned first!)

Hello

I think the boot release motor on my mondeo has failed and was wondering if anyone had bought a non ford part from anywhere. I haven't got a price form ford yet but I'm expecting it to be high.

Thanks

Thanks for the replies. I have fixed it!!! I almost gave up hope and gave into the Ford money making machine but couldn't resit prising the motor open to have a look inside. As I got a knife between the two halves of the casing the actuator popped out. I taped the thing back together and it's work ever since. I dread to think how many people have paid the £100 or so from Ford to fix it!!

Thanks

Andy

Reading all the debates about snow tyres etc has reminded me once again, that I must be either a pretty boring driver, or just Mr Average.

In summer we get threads about what tyres give that extra grip needed, I have never driven in a way that I have nearly lost grip and could have done with the "Super-duper" grip that some tyres offer.

I have never waxoyled my underside (oo-er missus).

It will be a rare event if I lift the bonnet in between services, other than filling the washers when they are empty.

I might check my tyre pressures if they look dodgy, or I am at the petrol station on a nice sunny day and the air thing has no queue.

I like to give my car a proper wash/wax/polish during the summer on a nice day as an excuse to avoid going out with the missus. Used to do this very regularly as I find it very therapeutic, but just don't seem to have the inclination this last couple of "summers"

I fill up with supermarket fuel and have never felt that I have missed out on the benefits of the extra 30p a gallon for the super duper version.

I don't have snow tyres or 4x4 and I haven't got stuck once this year in this current weather - remember its abnormal, not normal this weather.

I have never received a speeding ticket that I could fight against, and can't remember my last parking ticket.

So are the vast majority on here like me, or am I in the minority? Read more

Tyro, you maintain your cars properly.

With a maintenance regime like that you don't fall into the neglected white goods category.

Oil change at 6K, winter tyres, you're molly coddling the car...good for you..;)

Tons of people turn right on a roundabout from the left lane in a car.

It's too common just to be a bad / dangerous habit, guessing there must have been a time when this was a prescribed approach? E.g. like the now depreciated "use every gear when slowing down" advice.

Anybody know the details?

We need an additional car away from work.

Have looked at the new berlingo multispace, peugeot teepee , ford tourneo connect and the fiat doblo.
We can live with any of them and are not fussed about which one we end up with.

Our only stipulation is it is relativly new if not new then at least an 09/59 plate.

We want a van based MPV for the durability and space.

We are paying cash

But we dont want to pay more than 10 grand for a car which on the whole is nothing more than a van with 3 seats in the back and a sliding door.

I have visited 6 ford dealerships. Even wit the ford family discount i am entitled to, the cheapest pre reg tourneo I can pick up is £15,000, an increadible price (list price is £18k plus!). The dealership staff themseves have commented how expensive this vehicle is.

I have visited 2 peugeot dealerships. Neither was interested in doing anything other than £500 quid off list price. I dont understand why I should pay a higher price for a peugeot badge over a citreon badge when the partner and berlingo are near identical.

I have visited 4 fiat delaerships,. There is little to no doblo stock available new, and most of the used cars are 08/58. They will order me a new doblo but it will take 8 weeks and will be near list price. A new doblo is out in March aparently.
Im gutted motor provider have got no more in stock as they had them reasonably priced.

.*******
They are unwilling to go much below 1,000 discount on the diesel models even on the pre-reg 09's.

I have been left very dissolutioned by my experience. Some may think my principles are wrong to refuse to pay more than £10 grand for a vehicle which is no more than a van with seats, but im astonished at some of the manufacturer mark ups and the unwillingness of dealers who are more interested in a finance deal than straight cash.

I anyone can reccomend any offers/dealers/advice then please do so.
We are in need of a second car and I dont want to have to take out a short term rental.

I did try a renault dealership regarding the new kangoo and they offered £250 of list price, also im not convinced about the durability of the kangoo van. I know its a new chassis but the old kangoo van was a dog.

are vans durable? all the ones i see or have hired seem to rust at a very young age and they are all quite tinny and light.

i always thought this was because white van man ragged the life out of the van for 3 years then it was dust

Who has a second vehicle for winter use or other rough/demanding conditions/situations? I'm interested in hearing from those who have, what you bought and the reason.

Driving around this time of year, I have seen quite a few Land Rover Series and Defenders on the roads that are not normally seen during summer (around here anyway). Read more

The trouble is there is already a second car to my RX-8, a Supra twin turbo, and at the spiteful and iniquitous rates of taxation on any car of interest, I can't afford afford any more. So at the moment I am housebound (just as well at my age, anyway!).

Hi,

I just bought a diesel 2.2 turbo Previa.

I filled the tank right to the very top!
Then I noticed diesel spilling onto the ground from my car.

Perhaps, half a gallon spilt??

Is this a recognised fault?
Is it easily fixed?
Any thoughts? Read more

Reminds me of a friend's Alfasud years ago. It kept spluttering and dying (as we eventually found out) due to water in the fuel. The flexible hose between tank and filler in the rear wheel arch had a missing/corroded jubilee clip. Every puddle you drove through deposited water plus muck and bullets into the fuel tank. We took the tank out to clean it all out.....
Good luck!

I'm thinking about an Octavia to replace my Focus, probably in the summer, funds permitting. It will ideally be a 2005 or 2006, and will definitely be petrol powered as I cant justify diesel at my mileage.

So the questions. The 1.6 FSI has about the same power as my current 1.8 Mk1 Focus. Is it enough for the slightly bigger Octavia? Does it need super unleaded? Or should I go for a different petrol engine?

One final point. I often have to carry long, thin items (lacrosse sticks). Do Octavia's have a ski hatch in the rear seat?

Thanks in advance Read more

It will feel a bit gutless after a 1.8 Focus unless it is revved hard, I too have heard that the FSis can be problematic unless super U is used.

Hi there

I too have the infamous 'Anti Pollution Fault' display, along with the engine management light. The car is a 2.0 HDi 136, with 80k on the clock and continues to runs like new. My mechanically-minded friend plugged his vehicle diagnostics thingy into the dash and got the following fault reading; 'Turbo Boost Ctrl Pos. Sen. Ckt R/Perf.' He is going to try and have a tinker with it in a few days, but I have a feeling a lot of guess work will be involved..

Thought I'd post this msg to see if anyone else out there had experienced anything similar, or knew what the precise problem could be, and (being very hopeful here) how to fix it?

Many thanks in advance

*UPDATE*

Peugeot read the fault code, said it was a turbo sensor that needed replacing, but 'the turbo must be replaced at the same time for the problem to be rectified..' They also found that the additive was almost empty & would need topping up asap. They quoted £2200 for the whole job.....

I had only owned the car for about a month and fortunately it was still under warranty from the second hand independent dealer that I bought it from. They did not want to pay out the £2200, and I was happy to have the car taken off my hands, with a full refund given.

I will not be buying another Peugeot HDI and will be doing my research BEFORE I buy my next car. Thank you for the responses.
