My wife put £15 of petrol in my diesel Disco this afternoon then drove 15 miles before it stopped turning over. Roadside assistance was covered by LR (operated by AA), but wanted to take my car to neares LR dealer, no doubt to replace high pressure pump at cost of £800+ to protect warranty. Have had the car low-loaded to my home. Any advice on what I should do next? Read more
after standing in the snow for 3 days - flat battery. Due to the age of battery fitted a new one. Did a good 200 mile journey - car stood another 4 days - flat battery. this is a diesel car and have read somewhere there is a fuel heater - could this be the reason. Has this happened to anyone else and does anyone have any ideas as to why this has happened.

Many thanks Peter. I will check this out. Now the weather has warmed slightly there are no problems.
My car has done 180thousand miles, newly MOT'd/taxed & now has a probable blown head gasket. I don't want to spend any more money on it.
I'm in Cornwall & have not yet managed to find a scrap metal merchant who pays by weight, so that doesn't seem like an option at the moment.
So, before I scrap it for nothing, I thought I'd try an ad in case anyone wanted to try & fix the head gasket themselves (??). Is that a ridiculous idea, given the amount of work I hear is involved in that? Perhaps it's only good for spares, if that.
Basically, I don't know what price to ask for. Is £160/150 way too much? Any ideas on prices or otherwise, I'd be grateful. Read more
K Seal worked on my XUD engine when it started an appetite for water - and that was over 18 mths ago now.
Not an ideal solution but there becomes a point in a cars life where these remedies are acceptable.
Hi the front tyres on our car have worn on the INSIDE edge. what could the reason's for this be?
I know the outside edge is the tracking but the inside edge????

There has been a decent snowfall here in the hills to the North of Manchester. More forecast by Accuweather who I have to say have been OK in the last few days.
Temperatures to stay v low (2c max) for the next week and more.
My brother has a MB, ML, 320 in black - looks good, v good. however, he will change his car for the vew reg in march and told me to look at his next purchase.
I've seen these cars in usa. I could pick it up and eat it.

i fell asleep in 1978 just down the road from there on the old A10 at somewhere near buntingford the wheels of my austin hitting the kerb woke me i think and to this day ive never driven whilst overtired
i bought my jag a few years ago and it was already converted to LPG. I ve never had any problems with it but recently when am driving on gas my petrol is being used to, so its costing me much more as am using petrol and gas. So if theres anyone that can help with advice id be very grateful. Read more
What LPG system do you have?
It seems remarkable that this problem can happen. The LPG should have valves that only open when then the LPG is in use, For both the petrol ECU to be working at the same time as the LPG ECU seems odd.

Hi everyone,
My Fabia has a big problem after starting from cold, particularly when it's damp. The engine runs extremely roughly and the whole car vibrates, with a strong smell of petrol. Give it even a bit of gas and the engine struggles to keep going. Try to drive anywhere and there's a lot of fumes and no power to get going properly. (Once the engine warms up, there's no problem at all and the car runs beautifully). I had the coolant temp sensor replaced a year ago which seemed to improve things slightly, but now the problem is back with a vengeance.
Any ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated!

That's one of the risks of buying second hand.
Speaking as the buyer of two second hand diesels.
Alternatively, drain the tank, replace with branded top quality fuel (extra detergents) and add a shot or 2 of your favourite fuel additive. That is all the main dealer did when my dad misfueled. Even knowing its history, the same garages bodyshop manager bought the car when dad px'd it.
