washers are freezing up even if sitting in the car with the engine on and heater on windows. i am a taxi driver and I am wondering if this is a problem with passats as my wife has a hyundi i30 and she has had no problems in this weather.
used anti freeze only thing that works is pouring hot water over nozzle and pipes Read more
it may not look cool but it works.
I've been known to use my son's water pistol in such circs. Wouldn't recommend waving anything which looks too much like a gun out the window mind. Upsets some people....
Front tyres on my Titanium X diesel seem to be wearing quickly. This was a Ford direct vehicle bought with 15k on the clock. I have heard that Mondeos are prone to this front scuffing and wear. Rear seem OK. Checking what is available I have come across comments on "summer tyres". I wonder if this is why cars these days cannot handle winter conditions and owners are not aware of the tyre types. I would rather have an all season. Blimey, are tyres expensive these days or what! Can anyone recommend. I have been looking at premium tyres, would the mid range out these days do? I am on 235/40R 18 W95 Read more
15K was quite good (unless it's on its 2nd set), mine (Titanium, 235/45/17") got to 13K with 2mm tread left before I changed them. At these rates of wear and the fact that I just potter around locally, I went for a mid-range tyre at £70 each rather than the Goodyear excellence which were around £120 each.

There is a video in today's Sun half way down the page on the LH side that shows a car sliding on iced up block paving - just like my neighb had done at the cost of £????'s.
His drive was very icy whilst my ruff concrete drive was ice free.
My daughter's screen washer has stopped pumping screenwash. You can hear the pump running. I have removed one of the pipes under the bonnet and blown liquid out of the little hole in the bottle cap. With the same pipe removed it still doesn't pump. We are pretty sure nothing is frozen.
Where's the usual place for a blockage? Any tips gratefully received.

You were spot on Dave, filter needed cleaning. Who designs these things that turn a simple task into a major dismantling job?
Thanks again.
Ive tried to report this using the button at the bottom but the cursor problem even seems to stop me doing that.
When typing a post the cursor will not stay on the right hand side of the page, its ok now as i'm typing continually but if i make a mistake i have to go to all sorts of lengths to split the text up to enable the cursor again.
Only on this site, i presume others have found this too.
Hope that garbled waffle makes some sense. Read more
It's been made aware to Khoo Systems.
All I can say for now is that it's being looked into, but like most businesses, the Christmas break will cause a delay in getting it sorted.
If you place the cursor on the top part of the report box, click your left mouse button and then drag the box to the left hand side of the screen, you'll then be able to fill it in. As said though, there will be a delay in getting this resolved.
Sorry - Webmaster.
My mondeo has failed its MOT because they refused to do the emmisions as there is blue smoke coming from the exhaust? its worse in the mornings but if i pump the fuel filter it seems to stop and run better whilst pumping. my friend seems to think it may be a problem with the fuel system so i changed the filter and still the same. any idea's???
many thanks

just add approx 1pint of home heating oil to your tank before taking vehicle to test
this will not harm your your pump or engine in any way. A guaranteed way to pass

Since this recent cold spell I've noticed an increasing number of pedestrians choosing to walk in the road rather than on the snow covered pavement, I've seen several cars having to swerve to avoid someone unexpectedly deciding to hop into the road because they thought it was a safer route.
I wonder what is potentially more dangerous, slipping on the icy pavement or being clipped by a vehicle?

Sorry I haven't replied earlier.
I agree with what BRs have said, I just hope that the people I've seen deciding to take to the highway are aware of the potential danger, many of them are wearing headphones or have children in hand/buggies and seem oblivious to the traffic around them, I don't drive in the gutter but sometimes there just isn't enough room when they go around parked cars, I just hold back much to the annoyance of the traffic behind me.
When the sun is low and on the driver's side, I move the sun visor to the side to shield my eyes. I've not seen anyone else doing this. Perhaps other drivers are not aware this facility exists. Read more
i was going to mention the 132

is a Fiat 132 not a RWD car?
The silver A class had just moved onto the chemist`s forecourt and as I reversed into position beside him, I noticed him pause as he opened his door and then smile slightly as we made eye contact on getting out of our vehicles.
I would place him in his late 80`s - moving slowly into the chemist, white faced and without much colour in his lips, let alone face. A heart condition perhaps or the normal aging process resulting in his body organs being hard pressed by his slow walk inside.
The A class outside gleamed, even to it`s alloy wheels - despite the heavy salting and filthy main road. I assessed it as a well cared for and perhaps even loved vehicle - being deployed into the salt as a necessity, due to frailty, rather than choice.
He looked vulnerable and I took his wisp of a smile as perhaps loneliness - was this trip out his only human contact today - or for longer?
I engaged him in conversation as we waited for our respective medications and despite being 61yrs myself - never had the 61 felt more like being 21 - if you know what mean.
We covered the weather, snow, the -6c of the previous night and of earlier decades. He really warmed to the contact and his face glowed with pleasure despite what looked like possible cardiac insufficiency.
We were back in the winter of 47 - a year before I was born and I added to that my Fathers story of the winter of 44 and him being on guard duty at an RAF airfield - the Battle of The Bulge going on inland and the expectation of German paratroopers.
I touched his arm as I left and wished him a good Christmas - he was not far from the limit of what`s possible with motoring and I felt great empathy for him as another Human Being - facing the final challenges and perhaps the prospect of a lonely Christmas.

Don't say that!

Nice rough looking one with odd coloured panels too. I've had two like that. One was the quickest Estelle I had.
I am envious Dox! Let me know if you want the rear halfshafts and bearings I have. Got a 130 in the bushes too but the engine. or most of it, is different from yours.
