When the sun is low and on the driver's side, I move the sun visor to the side to shield my eyes. I've not seen anyone else doing this. Perhaps other drivers are not aware this facility exists.
|
Well I certainly do it.
What I really miss on my BMW (and I notice that the A4 B8 and the the Golf VI no longer have this) is the 'little' sun visor on the overhead console to block the sun which comes above the mirror / between the sun visors. This was a really nice feature of VAG cars and now they have only got the useless 'dots' on the glass, probably saves them 50p per car, a real shame imho.....
|
Yes, they swivel for this reason exactly. I don't recall ever seeing anyone else doing it though.
|
I've used it before, but only a long straight stretches of road. Problem is, as soon as you turn a corner - or change direction slightly - and the sun is not on the same side of the visor, it then becomes a hindrance and gets in the way. And folding it back into its 'home' position can get really messy.
|
I do it to. Perhaps it's an old codger thing.
|
SAAB have two visors, one behind the other so you can do side window AND screen. A very useful feature i wish was copied on most cars.
|
Agreed RF.
|
I do it all the time, but it's not long enough. I made a longer one from off a scrapper and fitted it into one of the blanked off holes for a grab handle, using a 6mm bolt.
No holes drilled, etc.
My riding mate has a 54 C5, I think that has ' double ' visors.

I'm 37, and I've always done it ;-)
I wish lorries had visors you can swivel, as the side windows are so much taller than cars the sun shines in for far longer. I used to wedge my clipboard up into the window channel to block the sun out from the side on a long run south at sunset :-)
|
Don't need to do it with my car, the roof line is low enough and my usual journeys don'y get the sun that way.
Older MB's have that cute little visor that drops down over the rearview mirror, good design.
Use it all the time on the truck though, luckily the side windows have their own drop down blind.

Have none of you heard of Raybans dahlings......?.....
;-)

Fiat 132s of the 70s had slide down smoked perspex screens above the driver's and front passenger doors. Very useful they were too. Don't remember ever coming in contact with them when exiting either.

>>>>>>>>> i was going to mention the 132 and those, yes i hurt myself on them a few times getting out of the car

HB, they're soooooo last century.
My anti-glare wear combo is: Serengeti chromatics & Nike baseball cap.

Use it all the time myself.

Fair enough WB, never one to resist progress of course but then some would argue that real style never dates... A baseball cap in a Merc ? How quaint.....
;-))
|
SWMBO does it all the time. Luckily I'm tall enough to have my eyes above the screen/window lines so it isn't often an issue.
|
I still have an "official" MB Baseball Hat. Available in blue or grey with a nice tan suede peak. Peak technically known as a bill I believe
|
A-classes are MB branded....

I would say though, in mitigation, it's worn rapper style: back to front :/

I swivel the visor around all the time. I ask SWMBO why she doesn't (usually after her complaining about sun in her eyes...) and all I get is a muffled grunt.
Hey ho!
|
I do it, but its no surprise the majority don't, like they don't use main beam on dark A roads as flicking the switch so that you can actually see more than 10 feet in front is such a bind.................................

With my sun specs, baseball cap, hoodie and infinitely variable sun visor I cant see a thing!

i found an old geezers green visor with clips on it in a car the other week ,i put it in the transit so it clips on the side window in bright sunlight (far better than winding the window shut on an autotrader i think)
|
Hmmm, depends who the auto trader is though,, I can think of a few who deserve it !
I must be unique, I wear prescription polaroids with clip on night driving glasses attached !
I means I can see most things in the sun !
