Hi, got a problem thats beginning to bug me.
In the last month or so my car has been making a knocking noise when braking or going over bumps, I believe it is coming from the rear. My usual garage say that it is the trailing arm bushes and that both need doing at a cost of £150. Could it be anything else?
Is this a likely cause and would you think the price is reasonable?

How can I tell if the tyres on my Morris Minor are tubed or tubeless?
Is there any writing on the sidewall to tell me? Read more
Worth checking the valve is tight and there are not any little pieces of grit lodged in the valve or under the dust cap.
Also try the 'gob test' on the valve.
You can still get metal dust caps that double as valve keys.
I just got an Insurance Quote for a Triumph Street Triple R 675cc and one company quoted £94,505.00 or £9,492.50 per month with an excess of £500
Can anyone else beat this?
Oh and a sensible quote of £388 by another company Read more
It is a lot better getting a quote like that than them saying "sorry we will not insure you" because one of teh insurance questions is "have you ever been refused insurance".
I saw this music video yesterday:

In the end, the singer gets into a car and drives off. You just get a few glimpses of the car. Its been eating me all night - which car is it? I recognise it as a Citroen - but which one?
Can anyone tell me and put me out of my misery?
Thanks!!

After getting over the motion sickness inducing presentation
It's a series of photos and not a video. Interesting style of "video".
Now what is that other car? Not had a chance to have a proper look yet but I think you only see the headlight and a little of the surround.
Hi
Facelift - Petrol
When @ tick over there is odd noise what can only be described as water "burbling" as if running through pipes somewhere - increase the revs and its not noticble or has stopped.
its allmost like putting your ear to a house radiator and listing to the water going through or better example the noise a washing machine makes when its emptying the water through the waste pipe at the back. but only very, very slightly.
A odd noise i know but does anyone have any ideas - many thanks Read more
Hi
Sorry for the delay in replying back it was only last friday when i got round to topping it up, as somedays after a long run it would sound ok
Anyway as it was only a milimeter ot two under the "cold" line i topped it up, and it seems to be perfectly quiet. but im still listing out for it as ive only driven it on the saturday this weekend and this morning
I wonder if its dropped slightly as ive just started to use the heating as apposed to having the heating off all summer

LDO:So glad I'm not alone! Now in my early fifties and driving seems more and more a chore than a pleasure. Indeed, I seem to find myself taking pleasure (perhaps satisfaction is a better word) from driving with economy in mind.
However, as I drive a Berlingo, eyeballing the opposition at traffic lights is tinged with despair. What happened to Ladas? Those I could burn off!
Been considering a set of these 'cause I'm, frankly, a lazy pink fluffy dice - {true, as you obvously haven't bothered reading the no swearing policy } and whilst I do a visual check of the tyres, I don't go to the effort of unscrewing the caps and using a gauge.
Anyone any experiences, good, bad, with these?
I thought that these:

Looked a better bet than the ones where you specify a pressure before buying. Those ones set when fitted and indicate red on pressure drop.

I fitted a set of these to my old ZX7R and then after a bit of nagging doubt, removed them again.
Basically, they function by depressing the valve core (common sense when you think about it), and using the air pressure to operate the warning flag system. The problem is, this then transfers the responsibility of retaining air pressure from a purpose designed and time proven valve mechanism, to a small rubber seal on the underside of the cap itself.
After a bit of deliberation, I decided that the tyre valve itself was a far better device for keeping the air in the tyre than a cheap rubber O-ring, and ended up taking them off.
Cheap plastic ones for me now, a regular check with my handy digital pressure gauge, and a couple of minutes with the trusty old twin barrel footpump if any inflation is needed.
Good afternoon.I bought a car couple of month ago.I was told it was CAT D and it was repaired by main dealer. After chassing for the log book i found out it was a CAT B.The seller told me the insurance company told them it was CAT D but then register it CAT B.I dont understand all this.Is the car legal now? What do i have to do?Never got the log book from the seller. Please help.

You lot are about as helpful as a Rattle Snake in a lucky dip! Or unlucky in this case!!
Back in July, on the motorway, the engine went completely dead.
A inspection at the Volvo garage revealed that the idler pulley had seized causing the V belt to break.
The report continues " When this happens the V belt disintegrates wrapping itself around the crankshaft pulley and also enters the cam belt casing. This causes the cam belt to slip on its pulleys, as the pulleys on the cam belt are timed to turn in synchronisation this is disturbed and fatal damage occurs internally in the engine". In short the car needs a new engine!
The car has less than 50.000 miles on the clock and a check on this part was not due for further 10000 miles. All evidence points to the fact that the fault was already developing at the moment I bought the car.
I rejected the car with the financial company providing Hire Purchase deal. The car was bought in May (14th) and was rejected in July (15th). I'm at the point of starting legal action. Any chance of success? Read more
Need a forensic examination on the engine to establish how and why the idler pulley seized. How shall I go about it? Any forensic expert in or around Guildford?
Cheers

if garage have done the test and can see they are beyond redemption then yes
they usually bang most going off say a kerb
bushes are £10 each and the tool to do them can break (replacement bit is £25) so your garage quote is quite fair in these unsteady times
