my 2000 206 hdi smokes and using quite abit of oil. its been doing it every since 52000 miles and now has an extra 30k on the clock. i thought it was the turbo so i changed that and i got told it isnt the piston rings as it would smoke from the dip stick hole. but yet it still uses oil, it used a litre doing 400 motorway miles but uses a litre for about 600 miles round town, does any one know what else it could be? any help apprecated Read more

About to road test it so to speak.

For those wondering, this will also work on the iPod Touch if you've upgraded to version 3.0 of the software. My first generation iPod Touch runs this fine. Read more

No because (a) it runs Safari and that works fine on even Windows and (b) the iPhone and iPod Touch do not support Adobe Flash :-)

I just watched the A5 Sportback video review on the Mac... slightly amusing that I had to watch an advert for the BMW 5 Series GT first.

I am nominating next week as car free week. All cars will be left on at home and everyone will use our wonderful public transport system for the duration. I reckon to spend 2.5 hours driving to work and golf every week but by public transport would be well nigh impossible. Buses and trains just won't get me there without miles of Shanks' pony. Could anyone manage their routine using public transport? Read more

When ever I move out public transport will be a major concern. Anything could happen which means I am unable to drive, I would not want to be stuck some where with a bus that runs very hour.

That said given the choice of car or bus I would take the car any day, choice of car or tram? then tram if it goes to where I want, car or train without a doubt a train.

Hi

I'm thinking of getting a towbar fitted to my faithful Accord so I can lug a bit of building stuff around in my dad's trailer. I've been quoted north of 200 quid to get it done. However, I've seen Thule/Brink towbars on ebay for about 120quid.
How difficult a job might it be to fit it myself?
Does anyone have any experiences good or bad?
I've done a bit of amateur mechanics before but nothing too involved.
Advice welcome.

Not too worried about the electrics, more the complexity of the nuts and bolts and finding the fixing points on the chassis. I've downloaded the pdf and it looks a little complex.

Only one door key entry point on my 2dr corolla, which has seized.Still opens remotely no problem. Have tried wd40/, penetrant etc. Dealer said requires new barrel and key at total cost £175 ! but did not dismantle or investigate. Wandering if a smaller part could have failed and if a smaller garage would be prepared to have a go at this. While the car has been reliable from new, these minor niggles ( £45 to change front headlamp, after nearly loosing a knuckle trying myself) are starting to pee me off, as they are so expensive.
The annual smarmfest that is an overpriced service and MOT is approaching, and I have stuck with Toyota so far as I get coutesy car but am starting to wander about going down a more independent route if I could find a decent outfit in my area.
I could live with the lock problem iI suppose, but would like to keep car a few more years Read more

Sorry about this. I have another thread open here, but thought it best to start a new topic

www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=78569&...6

I've noticed this for a while now, and thought it may be worth getting some opinions.

Not sure how to describe this, but let's say I'm in gears higher than 2nd/3rd, everytime I accelerate or lightly apply the gas pedal, I can hear a kind of muffled splutter/flutter from the exhaust. This is noticeable with the driver window open.

Does this mean I could potentially have a leaky exhaust, and would it explain the reason why I feel there is a lack of power sometimes? Read more

bell boy

theres a section of the exhaust thats flexible on these,i reckon this is leaking as the engine flexes
hopefully
as the downpipe with cat is dear and a pig to change

My daughter has recently acquired a diesel automatic to transport her large brood and, whilst it is running very well, she has experienced one or two problems on which she and I would appreciate any available advice.

Central locking appears to operate on the two front doors and the tailgate, but not on the nearside sliding door. Is this correct and, if not and it is an electrical or mechanical problem, any ideas as to what is the likely solution?

Given that no remote was received from the previous owner, does this model normally have remote control central locking?

The only spare key provided is apparently uncut, ie it has no serrations. How is this used, and is it "chipped in" some way? I am checking whether my daughter has received any form of key code for the vehicle.

Many thanks for all advice offered.
