Driving into Cardiff this morning I passed 3 or 4 'Traffic Information' signs that were activated. Their message? "XXXX Department Store, Opening 24th Sept"
.... Since when were these signs intended for advertising purposes rather than safety advice or actual traffic info? Would the council or highways dept have received some monies from the departments store involved? Couldn't it be argued this is an inappropriate use and an unnecessary distraction to motorists? My friends have just bought a new BMW 325 Touring, actually 3 litre, with automatic gearbox.
I was amazed to find out that their shiny- owned from new- 323 Touring was exchanged under the scrappage deal. Was admittedly ~14 years old, and pretty high mileage, but fully dealer serviced. The immaculate paintwork had that coating stuff on it.

wade, I didn't say the car was going to disappear any time soon ... just that we don't need to stick with the insanity of crushing good cars at only 8 years old
Forget the Green bit in a way, I'm also after the Mean part of this product, i.e saving money on ever rising petrol & diesel costs at the pump. I'm very persuaded to get a Hydo unit from hydrotechnix (www.water-fuel-hybrid.moonfruit.com) but I'm still a little nervous. Does anyone have any experience of how well these work and if they last?
For an investment of several hundred pounds (including the EECU to combat my ECU) I think I'm looking at a 2 year payback if I get 20% imporvement in fuel efficiency (25,000 miles and £1.05/l)
Has anyone had any insurance issues?
Are they removable to move to a replacement car when the current one finally pack in, hopefully in 8-10 years more at least.
Many thanks, in advance,

?just by getting a flat battery. If you can believe the onboard computer on my Hyundai i30, that is. Using whole numbers, before the flat battery the ?Average fuel consumption? read 40 mpg from new (15,300 miles). Immediately after attention by the RAC, 46 mpg. The ?Distance to empty? reading for a brim-full tank read 410, now 370 or 10% less. The ?Average speed?, ?Tripmeter? and odometer readings were not affected. The analogue fuel gauge seems correct but now I can?t be sure. How can I rectify the faults?
The radio settings were all shot, too, but easily re-entered. Nothing else seems to have been affected.

Bathtub tom already highlights my error above ;-) And I joked I had a trailer.
As a motoring site, why is there an add for boots make up appearing on the right? Is it for the lorry drivers who appear on here?

I wonder what other news adverts will appear... I'll email someone to check what's happened.
Thanks. And mark this read only as it won't be appropriate to discuss makeup outside of IHAQ :-)
Afternoon,
I am posting this on behalf of my friend.
He recently purchased a Honda S200 from a used car dealership. When he bought it he was told it would be supplied with a brand new MOT. He picked the car up and was driving it home when he got a flat tyre. He drove it to a garage on the next day to get it checked over (a independent, not the one he bought it from) and the garage said the brakes and callipers had bound and that the car was in a poor condition (the garage used another phrase for the mechanical state of the car!!) Also the car was not supplied with a new MOT (maybe the dealership was aware of the problems and new that the work was going to cost them more then they were prepared to pay out to get it through)
My friend rang the dealership and had a rant and rave about the state of the car ?the dealership said they would put this right. The dealership was meant to pick the car up from the garage but they haven?t, so my friend rang and they asked him what was wrong with the car ? he replied that they will find out all the problems when they MOT it-the dealership have now said they are not going to fix it and will not collect the car from the garage)
He has phoned the finance company and explained that the garage is refusing to pick the car up and they are refusing to do anything. He wants to cancel everything and get his money back that he paid towards the care (about £1k)
Can you guys help us out with where he stands from a legal point of view? I believe he purchased the car on the 4th Sept.

His Dad has also got his solicitor involved.
If your friend has legal cover as part of household insurance they might be of use too.
Hello all,
My Saab 93 started behaving badly on Saturday - drives fine up to 3000 revs which is when the turbo normally winds up, instead of the normal boost it started hesitating with a slight but noticable bucking. I eased off but tried again a couple of times and noticed that if I kept my foot down it would hesitate/buck a few times then the turbo would pick up and there was lots of boost.
I've had a quick look at all the hoses but can't see any obvious splits or cracks.
I'm fortunate to live close to a very respected Saab Indy, and I've booked in for tomorrow, but I don't have a lot of cash, so really hoping it's not going to be an expensive job. Besides the cars only worth a grand! (but I want to keep it going)
Amnyone had any similar experiences? Read more
As the memorial service for Sir Bobby Robson goes out on television, it is a chance for me to tell my own Sir Bobby story.
Years ago I was living in east London and one day saw Bobby Robson stuck in traffic in a Jag XJ on the A11 Leytonstone High Road.
I guessed he was heading to Ipswich, so I fired off a letter with directions on how best to avoid the traffic through Stratford, Leytonstone and Wanstead - rat runs or 'back doubles' we used to call them.
The letter also contained some advice as to who he should be picking for England.
Well, I got the most pleasant letter back by return of post.
Yes, he said, he was going to Suffolk that day, and he promised to try one or two of my routes, although he thought they might be a bit too complex to follow.
He thanked me for my advice on team selection, although he clearly had no intention of following it.
I thought it was about the kindest and most considerate reply I could have expected.

Thanks for that.
As a keen Ipswich Town fan of quite a few years standing I have read over the past few months many stories along the same lines telling of Sir Bobby's considerate and kind nature. I met him once, there was absolutely no connection to motoring (and it's a pretty dull story) so I won't waste anyone's time by recounting it here.
I need to replace my starter motor but there seem to be several types for this model/year. Can anybody give me any tips on how to correctly identify it?
The car does not have AC or Power Steering and from what i can see there is no external bolt down the side of the motor like some i have seen.
(The best deal i have had so for is for a lucas LRT00165 which is supposed to be for FORD Ka I 1.3 96-02 21T 1.1KW GR M8 Y - is this the one) Read more
I should think it will do if the connectors fit (mounting will be the same), if the glove fits wear it as it were.
The worse that will happen is you'll have bought an alternator more powerful than your old one.
I've had my 1.4 tsi Golf for around 6 months now, and am generally delighted with it.
However, the dsg auto box takes some getting used to. Not at speeds above about 20 mph when it is generally excellent but at low speeds and from rest.
For example, from rest you have to "squeeze" the throttle open in order to pull away without a jerk. If you just prod it you will need to collect your head from the back seat.
Also, if accelerating from the overun ( say when entering an island ) again it can be very jerky.
I find I even get occasional ankle ache due to having to provide precise throttle inputs.
Even SWMBO ( who has a 6 sp dsg Eos ) finds it a bit sudden.
My dealer has checked it out and decares that all is well.
Any other uses have similar thoughts ? ( hello Mr Tack )

I fondly recall driving my parent's 1953 Chevrolet BelAir to university in 1971 with its 2 speed Powerglide automatic transmission (the 1953 was the first year where it would automatically shift from low to high as you accelerated). As I recall, the back seat was another well loved feature.

That was the A406 North Circular, when Ikea opened a branch at Edmonton.
There were lots of special offers for the opening. Two customers argued over one of these offers, and there was a stabbing.
Eejits. I only went to a branch of Ikea once, and won't be going again.
