Getting a new shape Verso T-spirit - noonand
Is it possible to get one that's nearly 6 months old and has more than 6000 km (3750 mls) on the clock? A search of most of the websites I can find has the highest spec at a TR...
Getting a new shape Verso T-spirit - cuthbert
Tr seems to be the most popular choice !!

Just also to say you can pick a new one up at a reasonable price through a broker such as carfile !!

Also if you trade in a Toyota you will also get get a loyalty bonus of £1000 off also if you take finance out you also get another £1000 off .
You can pay the finance off if you wish after 6 months and still retain the bonus

So in total that would make about £4000 off the list price probably as much saving as off a nearly new car

Depreciation on a new Verso will be dramatic - TRs are aimed at the private buyer. T-spirits will be thin on the ground as very few Fleet cars will come back so soon as 6 months.

Trawling the brokers for a new car might be more effective than the Autotrader for a 6 month old car. Demo cars often changed after 6 months so a word with a few local dealers might prove fruitful - some might be registered but done few miles.

That is not quite true !! the deprecation on the Verso is probably one of the best in its class !!

I just traded in my old Verso and was amazed at the trade-in price !! it held about 50% of purchase price after 3 years

@Falkirk Bairn and @cuthbert,

Many thanks for your replies - I suppose I should be more specific for my reasons. I need the car to be 6 months old and have >6,000 km on the clock as this qualifies it to be a VAT exempt car when imported into Ireland.

I'm not for one minute going to bore you with the nuances of importing a car into ROI, suffice to say that if I don't meet those criteria the maths looks like this:

(GBP price * 1.215) + (OMSP * 1.22) = ????

OMSP is the _reckoned_ open market selling price in Ireland which is how our VRT is calculated,

With those criteria met the car becomes VAT exempt and the maths looks like:

(GBP price) + (OMSP *1.22) = ??

Now the reason for wanting the T-Spirit as opposed to the TR is that Toyota (in their infinite wisdom) have excluded cruise control which is on our list of wants but I can't find one anywhere.

Hence my original post so if anyone can give me any pointers (actual websites, garage names, etc) to look at and talk to I'd really appreciate it.

If Verso used values hold up well (and I for one will be pleased if they do) it's largely because they aren't bought in volume by fleet operators and hire companies, who generate the bulk of the nearly-new cars some buyers consider such bargains. We ended up buying new last year precisely because short supply of 1-2 year old cars pushed prices so high that it cost barely more to buy new.

Incidentally, if it doesn't have to be the new model (and the central instrument panel would rule it out for me) you get cruise control in TR, SR and T3 models of the old Verso too. It's not very good - the lever is hidden behind the steering wheel where it's hard to disengage quickly - but it's probably no worse than the new one.

Finally, and on the subject of maths, shouldn't one or more of your 1.n multipliers be a 0.n? If not, it looks like you'll be paying twice for the same car!

@WillDeBeest

You are of course correct - the OMSP should be multiplied by a 0.n figure. :-S

Thanks for pointing that out!

@WillDeBeest

Also the old one (as it has a larger engine with more C02 emissions) is more expensive to import.

By my reckoning it'll cost much the same at the end of the day to import a '08 T-Spirit (old shape) as a new '09 TR.

How much of a premium does the T-Spirit command over the TR anyway?

Can the cruise control be fitted as an after fit accessory!!

I know its an Avensis but the same may apply

Blimey, isn't life complicated? Sure you wouldn't prefer a nice horse and cart?
};---)

I would guess that my 08 T3's cruise control was fitted by the UK importer, not at the factory. That would explain the Enniel-Dow ergonomics anyway.

At that time, about the only substantive difference between the T3 and the T-Spirit was that the 'Spirit had DVD screens in the back. Perhaps Toyota UK decided that customers needed to be given a reason to pay the extra, hence the decision to restrict CC to the top model.

@WillDeBeest - sometimes I wonder re: the horse and cart! ;-)

According to the brochure this is the list of differences between TR and T-Spirit
- dusk-sensing headlights
- rain-sensing wipers,
- smart entry with push button start
- electrochromatic rear view mirror with rear view camera
- dual zone climate control air conditioning
- cruise control with speed limiter

All of which I can live without except the CC to be honest :-(

According to this here there is a price differential of £1725 when new:
www.honestjohn.co.uk/road_tests/index.htm?id=383&s...e

What would that differential be likely to be after 6 months?

If you look at the Toyota approved used website there are a few TR models which have CC.
The main dealer in Darlington has a 1.8 petrol with this option. Apr 09 car with 5285 miles.

I think you may find that it is the old shape Verso !! the Tr spec on the older models had Cruise control as standard

No idea, Japanese cars not being my thing. The OP asked for a car nearly six months old with more than 37xx miles. This one fit the bill.

And to be honest after owning a Verso 2-2 diesel (old shape ) I found them very reliable and the shape of the new one is not to different from the old one !!

One difference on the new verso is the engine on the diesel is a 2-0 also the fuel economy is better and emissions are better

Myself I would not rule out the old model
Getting a new shape Verso T-spirit - noonand
The new shape is out since April in the UK, and has not debuted yet in Ireland. We are, as usual, way behind with the introduction of new model Japanese cars here.

Just to be clear it's not a VAT exemption per se - it's merely a recognition that VAT has been paid in a member state already and as such, under EU rules cannot be paid again. Our current VAT rate is 21.5% though versus your 15%.

If I buy an old shape (the current shape in ROI) - I'm looking at a minimum 20% decrease in price the minute the new model comes out here....

Can anyone recommend some Toyota dealers that will actually ring you back when they promise they will?

I went to the Toyota webpage, set the region to N.Wales/Merseyside, rang the first five dealers there and explained what it was I was looking for. Each and every one of them promised solemnly to ring me back but no-one did.

Unless what I'm looking for is not there but I'd expect a phone call to that effect at the very least...

Octagon Bracknell certainly will, but presumably this is too far away for you.

With many thanks to Avant and cuthbert 1,

Some feedback - I spoke with an excellent salesman in Octagon who (gasp!) rang me back when he promised to do so.

Lindop did not have any new shape Versos in stock.

Thanks for all your help! :-)
