Hi there,

After a lot of research I have decided to use my knowledge of cars and finance to make a partnership with my brother who is a mechanic. We plan to buy a car a month, make any repairs, clean it up and sell it on for a small profit.

Nothing too serious to start off with, just a bit of a hobby which we might take more serious as we go.

I was just wondering if somebody could explain the V5 section to me of trading as a partnership.

If I cuy a car off ebay for example what do I do with the V5?
Im guessing that I need to register the car using the V5 to our business name ? Surely I cant leave it un-owned until we sell it and give the V5 to the new buyer.

If it is the business name that we need register, what happens if you want to sell it inside a few days of buying it?

Also am i right in thinking I dont need a licence if im not offering any finance, mots, repairs etc. just some traders insurance to allow me to drive the cars I buy.

If somebody could provide some guidence that would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Another essential is that you must ensure that each car you sell has foot mats in place as per: www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=17548 :o)

Did it do this on the test drive?, if not, then something certainlly has changed. Or was the test drive at 20 mph round the forecourt?.

In the old days, I would have suggested that an 'egg' had formed on the tyre wall, but modern tyres are better.
Sounded like a drive shaft problem to me, unless a wheel was really buckled, after hitting a kerb really hard, or other object. After all, all wheels should be balanced and fit for purpose, you do not want duff wheels on the back , or front. Still they are relatively cheap to buy.

I cannot remeber the last time I have seen a C or E class on a 58/09 plate but I have seen plenty of AMGs on new plates. Does anybody buy the cheaper mercs anymore? Read more

>>My only problem with Mercedes is that you really have to have one with an

auto box and I'm just not quite ready for that yet. Speaking to friends who
have gone automatic they all say they would never go back and that's a big
step to take. ;-)

My father-in-law was always telling me to get an auto. I refused, until I got my first Merc. Since then all my cars have been autos and I am of the same frame of mind as your friends, DP.

Of course I would never admit to my father-in-law that he was right, it's just that Merc manuals are not much cop ;-)

I need to buy new run-flat tyres for my car and I wondered if there was anyone in the BR who can give me any advice.

The car came with Continentals and when they wore out I put Bridgestones on them. I've found no difference in ride comfort, noise, road holding, but the Bridgestones have lasted a little bit longer.

I have toyed with the idea of putting regular tyres on the car, but decided to stay with the run-flats.

What I need to know is: Which brand/model gives the most comfortable ride?

Thanks in advance. Read more

Try BMWland.co.uk which is probably the best known. I used to use www.babybmw.net which is aimed at the 1series but of course the RFTs are fitted to these too and have always been a hot topic.

There are many others too but as usual Google is your friend !

i think the point made earlier about the technology evolving is well made. The second set of tyres I put on my 1 series were far better than the originals, despite being the same brand.

Thanks for all the comments.
Was looking at this option as my engine is on its way out! and am fed up with the 4 speed box.

i wll be surprised if thats the fault (sorry), most of these diesels come in with a glow plug general error (as its a direct injection the glow plugs are rarely needed, they dont even start to work unless the temp is -5 degrees) but it wont limit it to 3000rpm, but time will tell, Regards TB

Hello ALL
I just got a 2001 w203 merc that's done 169000miles.All was fine until i first noticed recently on a highway that i couldn't accelerate well enough to overtake or go above 135k.For a while this was only on long distances, but recently, the car gives off a bit too much smoke and any attempts at intant accelaration gives off a screeching and hissing noise, intermittent jerks and the engine feels like its stiffled. There 's been no check engine sign and replacing the MAF,fuel filter or decarbonating the air circuit has not helped so far(though we got out huge lumps of accumulated soot). We've also not been able to diagnose any engine faults.Did i mention the awful black smoke from the exhaust??
PLEASE HELP with suggestions as i just got this car and love it so much. Read more

Any help is greatly appreciated here please.
I'm replacing the bushings on the rear subframe (4 door saloon) and I removed the old ones without noting thier exact positions. There are two different types, one pair go on one end of the frame, the other pair on the other side. One type have a roughly egg shaped end while the other type have a half circle - half square shaped end. I know thier locations on the frame but must they be rotated a certain way (since the ends are shaped for some reason)? Can someone please advise me and if they must be rotated a certain way please provide details / image / link.
Many thanks. Read more

Anyone any ownership experence of these? I'm looking for a 150bhp Diesel (tried the 150 T jet but wasn't keen) but am a little concerned these cars have Stilo underpinnings.
I know there are probally much better cars for the money but I love the way they look and they look very good value for money at two years old but is they a valid reason for this or is it just fear of Fiats? Read more

The thick a pillars are common place nowadays. I was in a new mondeo estate last weekend and the a pillars on those are as bad.
