Insurance renewal time is approaching.

Quote lands from my existing insurer, which is about £100 more than about a dozen companies via a comparison website.

For £100, I'm switching.

Both old and new companies are household names, and the policies are similar.

Of course, I'll never really know how good they are unless I make a claim, but on the information before me, the only major difference is the price.

What's the lowest difference you would switch for? £10? £30?

I wouldn't switch unless the saving was at least £30 or £40.

And is it a good idea to keep on changing companies?

I wonder what the new company will think if, perish the thought, I have to make a claim in the first few weeks or months.

my galaxy has developed a braking fault over the last couple of days, most of the times when you brake its fine but on the odd occiasion you have braked and braked again but harder the pedal goes really hard and stopping doesnt always occur straight away,
I have checked the pads all ok with no warning lights, could it be the ABS or servo leaking, its only just started to do this and been fine since we have owned it over 2yrs!!!

can anyone please tell me where i can find the ecu relay on my A6? I saw a post from Nov 07 where someone had the same problem as me (intermitent missfire) and they cured it by changing the ecu relay but there was no info on where i can find it. Read more

I hear this evening on the news this evening that the authorities who run the QE 2 bridge at the Dartford crossing are discontinuing the service that they have been providing of supplying a driver for those who are unable to drive across themselves because they are terrified of heights.

They have apparent supplied this service since the bridge opened

I guess there's always the Blackwall tunnel, (unless of course you are claustrophobic)

Gordonbennet would not be pleased if he had to carry a load of lazy drivers on normally empty return trips.

Of course he would. He could charge a modest fare; their mass, swollen by the obesity epidemic, would enable him to freewheel down those motorway slopes at more or less the speed of sound; and they wouldn't be getting in his way on the road or baulking him at the bottoms of motorway inclines, that speciality of the motorway mimser asking to be murdered by the righteous... It's a win-win-win situation from gb's point of view.

i was going to chnage the oil the other day after i had service the car (newplugs etc) and then i could not get the sump plug out. The female torx has been rounded on the inside by somebody and as the bolt is thin-ish i really dont want to risk any damage to the sump itself. anybody ideas how to get it off. I have got a new sump plug to go back in so i can completly reck the old one if needed.

can you knock the next size up torx (t47 iirc) or an allen key socket into it,next on list is a semi blunt chisel on the edge and a sharp thump or finnally weld a nut on to it, the heat will help, Regards TB

Hello,

I'm going to renew the brake fluid in my corolla and was wondering how much the system holds, as a guide. The Haynes manual does not mention the capacity.

I'd be interested to know if this varies by a great amount between different makes/models too! Read more

Nice to see police in Newham upping the ante against uninsured drivers. Often, uninsured drivers are engaged in other nefarious activities and if we can keep nipping away at them and disrupt their antics, all the better for the law abiding citizen. Cars seized and crushed are often the working tool of the unlicenced cab driver who (themselves) often have convictions for rape and other serious crimes. The knock on effect of taking these cars out of circulation should not be underestimated.

Interesting to see that higher value and "status" cars are finding their way to Mr Crusher too. It is an interesting comment on our times.

But, anyway, "Chappeau" to the boys in blue who are doing something of relevance. Read more

"Eh? Often rapists? Really?"

If you read my original post carefully, you will have seen that I mentioned rape AND other serious crimes. These crimes include indecent assault, assault to various degrees, robbery, theft, drugs etc.

A considerable proportion of taxi touts arrested by the City of London Police had convictions for such offences, drove non-roadworthy cars and were sometimes unqualified/disqualified drivers. I was in the City of London Police and I can promise you that it isn't a myth. That is why they expend a considerable amount of operational time to stop this type of activity, especially Thursday/Friday evenings and at the lead up to Xmas/New Year. It is all about protecting the public.

"high value cars should not be being crushed and I have not heard of it happening"

Crusher himself said on the 1 o'clock news that it was happening. Obviously not as often though. Bearing in mind that the officer covered Newham only, it may well be that Crusher is also receiving cars from elsewhere, and the officer would not be aware of that.

Yes, you can buy an adaptor.

One suitable adaptor is this one:

Ebay Item No. 330275495937

There's also another company who makes them in the UK but I can't remember their name. If I find it or it comes to mind then I'll post again.

I use an FM transmitter myself; much cheaper!

Edit....Found them!
