Hi everyone, need some help, my sons car a 420sdi is losng diesel from the pump,
I have looked and it is coming from right in the centre of the pump in the middle of where all the pipes are going to the injectors, there is a bolt in the centre of something, and the leak is from this something, whatever it is, question is, is there a seal in this something and how do you get it out if it needs replacing.

many thanks in advance

I've just had a look at one I have here and it has a sort of triangular thing with an 11mm bolt in the centre, dont know if that's the same as yours, if so, have you tried tightening the bolt?

I know from the UK governments own website that the authorities have to make sure the NIP form reaches a driver who has been caught by a "safety" camera within 14 days of the offence. Is this a rough rule, 14 days, or does it have to be obeyed.

Would this mean the authorities retrieving the film from the cameras and developing them and sending the NIP form out, all within 14 days ?

Also the issue of if the authorities send the NIP out to the driver and because it gets delayed or lost in the post then is it correct that the 14 day rule could be broken ? And if the form is delayed in getting to the driver then potentially they could send it months or even years later !!!

What do you think the chances are that an NIP that was sent after a motorist was caught on a camera will get mislaid in the post ?

Thanks

Planning on taking my 114,000 mile 13 year old MX5 to france for a few weeks. Would you buy breakdown cover. Got UK cover quite cheaply but AA are quoting £150 which seems a lot. Read more

My MOT expires on 25th October, but for various reasons I'd like to renew it this week.
My question is, if it fails this week's test, is the car still road legal until 25th October, under its existing MOT?

Thanks for any advice

"Not Roadworthy" surely has a narrower definition than "MOT failure"? There is a box on an MOT failure sheet for the examiner to tick if he considers the car unroadworthy.

A car could have a number plate that failed to comply with the latest BS specification or had a fixing bolt the wrong colour. Hardly "unroadworthy"?
Or it could pass an MOT but be declared unsafe because it had a dog mascot on the bonnet.

I recall from a previous post of mine someone commenting on the above and saying avoid, as they had a relative, or knew of someone with one of these who described a smell of Clutch Air freshener!!

I took a very short trip in one today (A full day is available) and I have to say first impressions were very good. Goes like stink for a 1.3, has all the toys and obviously got me hooked (subject to that full day). However is there any reliable info available on this gearbox??

Should I shouldn't I???????????..............MD Read more

It has 4 speed auto gearbox: done 60,000 miles and has reasonable service history. I've had the car 2 weeks, and after a long run, noticed a hot oil smell coming from the offside front of car. Opening the bonnet, and checking carefully with torch etc. the engine, gearbox and surrounding areas are clean - no sign of oil. Following my nose, the area where the smell seems to come from is around the radiator. Any ideas as to what may be going on?

thanks

Some grease (yellow colour) has come off the offside inner driveshaft joint cover. The cover is new and it seems some excess grease was not cleaned off it, hence it's been finding its way onto the engine block. I will clean it off and hopefully that will solve it.

Thanks to all for your time and helpfull advice.

I'm using someone elses comments as the problem they have seems to be the same as mine but there was no comment as to what the problem finally was.

(((((Recently i have noticed power loss when accelerating. Particularly noticable uphill where i need to change down to get up the hill, whereas i used to be able to steam past others before!!
Nothing seems to have happened, no new engine noise etc, except it sounds like the fan (that blows air into the car) gets louder as i accelerate, which it did not before. the fan noise is direcly related to acceleration.)))))

I have checked the pipes into the turbo and none apear to be split. When on cruise control or a steady acceleration the car seems to rock as if its trying to pull then not then pull then not ect. Its worse going up hills. There apears to be a power loss from the turbo its not as responsive as before, and as mentioned before when i do accelerate theres a big sound of a fan kicking in or big suck of air that never happened before either and it only happens when the car is moving not at a stand still it only happens on acceleration.

Any ideas? Much appreciated before i take it to a garage Ford want to charge £75 p/h to check for the problem.

Thanks guys for your help. I think i've found the prob there apears to be a split on the pipe from the EGR valve down to the intercooler its on the under side of the first curve going from the top, so it was only visible from the bottom of the car although now i no where it is i can feel it going through the top. Phoned Fraud up and asked on price. He asked is it the pipe thats narrow one end than the other (i hadn't noticed) so said yes. He quoted approx £46. Does this sound like the correct pipe and a resonable price or does anyone know where i can get it cheaper. Looks a bit of pig to change. Does anyone have any hints? Again thanks for your help. Great forum Cheers Don.

Cars serviced today? None, because our necks have `gone` due to laying on our backs and working in the `horizontal position` yesterday.
Our head Mechanic is having to be fed strawberries in bed by his wife as he cannot support his own head.
A good job done yesterday though on a thoroughbred motor requiring a full rustproofing and oil and filters.
We will be closed until friday lunchtime and will then open for `valve springs every 20,000` type services. (and oil filter polishing)

What do you want at services? we are always ready to fit personal preferences into the manufacturers schedule.

All 1.8 K series are the same - MG/Rover/Land Rover - I am not sure whether there are differences in the wiring looms though. I dont think so but it will be worth checking.

Do you need the full engine replacement? I am guessing the headgasket has gone and the engine has cooked - usually a head replacement is much quicker and cheaper than a full engine swap.
