Gap insurance is not as good as it seems when you are sat with the salesman signing all the papers for a new car.
I had a bad accident in a car only a couple of months after I had bought it, (not my fault) and because it was so new the Insurance company insisted on repairing it instead of writing it off.

Therefore Gap insurance could not be used - and I was left with a tainted car. The repairs were OK, I suppose, but it was never the same.

Hello all

It's coming up to changing all four 17 "tyres on my V50 and obviously I'm keen to find a bargain - especially as I'm keen to fit a premium brand. I have always changed tyres previously by only going to places where they do all the extras such as tracking and balancing. But I'm on a very tight budget at the moment and would like to ask if it's absolutely necessary to pay for the extras.

Would I be daft to simply go to a fitter who can just change the tyres without doing the balancing and tracking?

Thanks.

You'd be surprised how much room 4 tyres take - more than an average car boot...

In which case put the two that won't fit in the boot on the back seat (remembering to cover it with something first). Or if your rear seats fold down, then all four should then fit in the boot.

Thinking my immobiliser is faulty.

Problem is car won't start on occasion, every other time starts first times and runs sweet.

usual trick to start is take a spark plug out turn over to see if it sparks, on first try no spark on second attempt start and runs on other 3 cylinders.

Before taking a spark plug out can be trying to start for a few minutes with nothing.

replaced HT leads, spark plugs, distributor cap, rotor arm, coil and the 3 low tension connectors.

RAC call out a few months back tried a new timming module (the 5 or 7 pin small black part under the coil on an ali earth plate.)

Thinking this only really leaves the cat 2 immobiliser (apollo 2002), can I bypass this myself without going to a auto electrician ?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Hello,

I'm considering purchasing a 2006 Saab 9-3 Vector (Diesel) Sportwagon [150bhp].
It has clocked up 100k miles. Given the mileage, what should I be wary of, and what repairs would it be most likely to require soon?

Many thanks for your anticipated advice!

Try test driving a Saab 93 first. I never found them particularly brilliant to drive compared to a Mondeo or Passat.

hello there, i am new to this forum and i have a problem, my companyy car is up for renewal and i like the 320i touring but i am concerned on what rough range i will recieve out of a tank?
I cover the whole of the uk with my job and 70% i am on the motorway. Work will pay me 16p per mile for petrol. So what rough figures will i expect to see by driving one of these??
Dont want to choose one and then end up being out of pocket, i cant have the diesel version as it is out of my bench mark.

Failing the Bmw i can have the passat cc 170diesel or the volvo v50.

Any help appreciated

If you are paid a car allowance for using your own car does that effect the tax relief on the mileage?

I'm fully aware that the allowance is taxable.

That will most likely show you how to do it.

From today's Manchester Evening News.
Motorist fined £60 and given 3 points for jumping a red light.
'Quite right too...you would think. But this poor guy moved his Lexus 3 feet forward over the stop line to make room for a police van coming up behind him with blues and twos on ! Phillip Lilley asked for photo evidence of his crime and was amazed to be sent a picture of his car just over the stop line and the police van disappearing into the distance.
Spokesman for the Casualty Reduction Unit ??? said ' If the lights are red then you are putting yourself in danger '....Right,,,, a couple of MPH for a yard at 9.20pm, quiet roads, no pedestrians.
We had one here a year ago when a driver pulled into a bus lane to let an ambulance past...he got his money back...I hope Mr Lilley does too.
A further nail in the coffin for public trust in the 'authorities'?
Revenue gathering at it's worst !

So could it be argued that an officer waving at you from his partol car
to get out of his way is directing you or does he have to be
out of his car and standing in front of you?
Can anyone clarify?

A police officer would have to be stood up engaged in 'directing traffic' to authorise you to move through the red light. Not sat in a car behind you gesticulating for you to move forwards.

The bottom line is using 'common sense'....and if some bureaucrat clown tries to be awkward with a ticket or something, moan to someone senior enough to see sense

There are two issues that maybe related here.
Firstly, since I've had the car there has been a noise every time I apply the brakes which sounds like the pads are slapping against the disks. A ford engineer told me that it is because the pads aren't original ford parts and that everything should be fine and the noise would have no consequence. Is this correct?
The other issue is also to do with the brakes. Over the past few months I've began to feel some kind of feedback through the brake pedal that has gradually gotten worse to the point where I can feel the steering wheel vibrating when the brakes are applied. The pads are barely worn and the disks don't seem to be warped. I have recently noticed whilst painting the drums on the back that neither of them spin freely with the handbrake off, spinning most of the way around but sticking on the same point each time, which makes me think they might be warped. But I'm sure the issue is with the front brakes. Also, the brake fluid is overdue a change but I can't see how that would have this effect. Does anyone have any ideas as to what's causing it?

My toyota previa overheats . it is ok sitting idling. When driving it can start to overheat after about 30 minutes or more. Putting the foot down seems to make it overheat quicker , like when driving up a steep hill or mw driving. any ideas anyone. The water level is ok. Read more
