high mileage - what to look out for? - JohnnyBoy
Hello,

I'm considering purchasing a 2006 Saab 9-3 Vector (Diesel) Sportwagon [150bhp].
It has clocked up 100k miles. Given the mileage, what should I be wary of, and what repairs would it be most likely to require soon?

Many thanks for your anticipated advice!

John

What maintenance has it had, full Saab service history at the correct intervals?

Was the car used mostly on the motorway before?

Big Bills after 60K is a common occurrence - friend had a expensive 2 years after expiry of the 60K warranty. Even in warranty it was unreliable but at least there was no bills.

Have a glance at the CBC breakdown link above.

To summarise: water pump failure (causing probably engine death), inlet manifold butterflies failure, EGR problems, cam belt change (+ water pump) required if not already done recently, and others...

Only worth considering with a cast iron warranty. Gear box could be a problem with that mileage too (manual or auto?) and not to mention other mechanical issues you might find with that car...

Try test driving a Saab 93 first. I never found them particularly brilliant to drive compared to a Mondeo or Passat.
