Evening,

The car always auto locks itself and it really annoys me. Is there a way of me turning this off?

It happens when driving/stationary. If i open the door and get out and close the door behind me it will lock itself even with the car on and running. Touch wood i have always made sure the window is open so as not to lock myself out?

Help please! Read more

Hi
I believe not. You have an upgraded module (no longer a square fob but a rounder one) it will should only lock with the ignition on and the doors closed if the ignition is off you should be ok. Is this not how it is on yours?

Hi all

Some time ago my Focus 1.6 LX developed a fault.

The amber engine warning light illuminated and my fault reader gave a P04020 error code. My local garage has replaced the cat, the forwardand rear lambda sensors, temperature sensor and the fuel regulator. These were replaced (on fords recomendation) separately but on each occasion the warning light again came on again after about 50 miles. The light is again on now, the error code is the same as on previous occasions but we are running out of options and parts to replace.

The following info came from my memoscan

Fault Code - P04020 Generic Catalyst efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)

Freeze Frame info

trouble code - P0420

Fuel SYS1 CL, faulty HO2S
Fuel SYS2 CL, faulty HO2S
calc laod 56%
coolant 112 deg C
ST FTRM 1 -3.1
LT FTRM 1 -6.2

MAP (Kpa) 0
engine RPM 2703
Speed 78Km/h

Is the Map Kpa = 0 significant?

Any help with a diagnosis would be greatly appriciated

Sounds like it's time to go back to seller and tell them they have sold you an illegal product and ask them what they want to do about it?

Looking at the power and weight figures, I would guess the Astra estate would offer the best compromise between power and fuel consumption.

hi

My father has recently purchased a brand new Nissan x-trail, 9 weeks ago, and has just washed it for it 3rd time and the whole of the OSR panel around the fuel filler has now got blemished and worn paint.

An independant inspection from a friend, who owns a garage, has said it has definately had a BAD repair done to it.

seeming as though it is less than 10 weeks old and bought from nissan Warrington. Can anyone offer any advice before he/we go in with guns blaring.

He is not happy to say the least.

regards

I feel sorry for your father as this must be very upsetting.

Unfortunately there is no guarantee that new cars haven't had remedial work done to them prior to delivery, however, in my experience, when I crashed into a new car prior to delivery it was repaired in the manufacturer approved bodyshop and to a high standard. There was certainly no expense spared unlike with the used cars.

I think that you would possibly have moral grounds to insist upon a replacement vehicle, however, and I'm sure that someone will correct me if I'm wrong, I don't think that you have a legal right to a new one. I believe that the garage are within their own rights to have the vehicle repaired in a manufacturer approved bodyshop. What may also lend them credibility is that it has taken 10 weeks to spot, they could argue that it has happened after delivery.

I would definitely try for a new car, but one thing to bear in mind when you go in guns blazing is that the dealership may even be unaware of this damage as it could have been damaged at the factory (although would have had a proper repair if this were the case), the shipping company (quite possible) or the transporter company (equally likely). So personally, I would explain calmly and rationally that you don't feel the car to be of a satisfactory standard for a new car. You may get lucky and find that the dealership offer a new car, they may insist upon a repair (as my dealership did with a silver Mondeo that I recall, we only replaced it after a third failed attempt to get a colour match).

Had new clutch fitted about 2 weeks ago, has been worse since. When changing down gears it will come out, then go wobbly and can't find any gears to put it into for about 30 secs to a minute, then find gear. Took back last week and he said he'd bled the clutch fluid and that it should now be fine, but it's still happening every time i drive it!! What's wrong??? Read more

I bought a 307 SW SE last year with an odometer reading of 19,791 When it got to its first annual service it had done 28,340 miles. On first service, in addition to the normal filters etc and 4 litres of particulatefluid(!) I was advised to get the flywheel and clutch assembly changed at a cost of £600 + labour. I have now read about problems with the dual mass flywheel so have contacted Peugeot who advise that because it hasn't actually failed I cannot claim under their warranty. Now this vehicle is a 7 seater and is often carrying children so I find the fact that they would like me to have an accident in their vehicle quite distressing. How can I deal with this other than by having an accident that I am trying to avoid? Read more

Hope honestjohn doesn't mind but my recommendation would be to contact whatcar wchelpdesk@haymarket.com . They will give advice and may take up the fight on your behalf if they think you are being unfairly treated.

The car will run o.k from cold (most of the time) but then it will suddenly lose all power and is unable to idle and if I am driving at the time it will cut out as I slow down for junctions and then I lose the steering and brakes, which is quite scary! The only word I can think of to decribe the sound of the car when it is like this is - lumpy, which I hope makes send to someone!

One mechanic has had an educated guess that it's the idle control valve and another mechanic thinks it is the coil packs and ht leads, which is really expensive especially if it turns out not to be an accurate guess - I have found an idle control vale on ebay and thought maybe this was worth a try but have no idea which number I would need.

If anyone has any ideas what this could be - or what I can try - I'd be grateful for the help!

Thanks Read more

Thanks for your help elekie&a/c doctor, I have checked the pipes and they all seem fine, however, I took a closer look at the HT leads and 2 of them are broken, I'm not a mechanic, so the best description I can give is that the metal bits are stuck inside and not pulling out with the plug - not sure that makes sense...sorry.

I have been trying to find HT leads and the idle control valve online but without a part number this is proving very hard, I have looked on the part for a number but can only find that is was made by Phillips!

I am in the process of buying a New Golf Plus V1 with all the SE trimmings.

I liked the fact that its roomier and higher than the usual Golf VI plus the pretty extras like Park Assist. However I notice that this weekend scrappage deals are giving £700 more off the plain Golf than the Plus.

Am I wasting the £700 - any views please on whether I should stick with just Golf rather than the Plus model? Read more

Why do people keep going on about "extra headroom"? The whole point of the higher roof is that the seats are higher (by 7cm I think) this gives you "more" legroom as your legs dangle straighter/downwards rather than stretching out. Anyone that has driven a sprinter type van will know what I mean.

Hi

How good is the welder from the website www.wolf.tv/product.asp?id=120005 . It is almost 1/2 price, but is it a good one? Would I be better of purchasing one from Ebay?

Thanks

Thanks DP and BB. I probably am worrying about nothing.

However, SWMBO has told me that the first welding I must do is to make a new gate for the back garden, so, if anything bad happens to household goodies, I can claim that I am only following her orders!
