I originally replaced the resistor in Dec, the 3rd one has now failed. No2 was returned to Ford for assessment, no3 purchased from a difference source in case there is a faulty batch. The multi-pin plug looks to be 100%.

One suggestion is that fan motor is defective (changing its resistance) and this is causing early failure of the resistor. The car did suffer the dreaded water leak 2 years ago so the fan may have got damp ? which may have damaged it.

Any other likely reasons for the resistor to fail so quickly?

Thanks

you are right in suspecting the heater motor is causing the problem I have changed a few of these because of the same problem all have been caused by the water leak into the motor via the pollen filter.

Hi, i recently purchased a ford orion 1.3, 1991 with only 30,000 miles and full service history and new mot, it did have a leaky brake cylinder though so i took it to the garage to get repaired, i could have done this myself but was very busy and didnt have time. i got the car back the following day and me and my wife and young son went to weymouth for the day, on the way back, just past dorchester on the dual carrage way i had a total wheel bearing failure, offside rear, no warning, no funny noise no rumbling, just a sharp crack, slight drop in right hand side and a little tank slap with the steering, but managed to keep control, was doing 60mph and thought i had a puncture. called the aa, luckily had just re joined and got recovery to home.
Im just asking is it normal for a bearing to seize with no warning?
ive now had it apart the inner bearing is ok, but outer bearing is totally anialated, with the inner roller seized to the spindle.
Do you think the garage that done my rear brakes could be at fault? and also im a little concerned theres more than meets the eye with the mot, its five months into the twelve, and ive had a leaky cylinder and a wheel bearing go, is there a way i can check the validitiy of the mot certificate because its not unknown for testers to do there mates a little favour, but thats not a dig at the vast majority of testers who are honest and do a great job.
Thanks for taking the time to read my post.

IIRC,they went to the four-bolt type with the 95.5 facelift when they changed from IRS to twist-beam.

I'm about to hire a car fro Palma Mallorca airport. I,m trying to avoid companies that supply you with a full tank of petrol and expect you to bring it back empty. Does anyone know what companies don't operate this policy.

I go to majorca 2-3 times a year and use an English co called Wheelies. They hire out Fiestas at a reasonable price and you return them with same amount of petrol you started with. The other benefit is that they leave the key with the Car so you walk out the terminal straight to the Car Park and you are off. No hanging around in queues etc. Tel 0034 971 130044.

As has been pointed out by numerous posters - there is nothing in the news item to suggest that the rr victim could be suspected of mimsering - just that he was driving slowly but ... there are usually always 2 sides to every story!
I found it very interesting to read the Police forum thread I posted earlier, but then the police are Human, all too Human too.
I have been a 'press on' merchant in the past, but now I have no need whatsoever to drive with haste but ... I have certainly learnt a lot from this and the Police thread and intend to take it 'on board'.
In a way I find it sad that I and others have to drive faster than we want to satisfy the 'press on' merchants, but then its not an ideal world - is it.

Hypothetically You receive a fixed points penalty which also carries a penalty points.

The computerised system FIRST sends out a demand for cash, only then AFTER you have paid, can it send a DEMAND for you to return the license for endorsement -it cannot handle both at the same time and it cannot process the points until the financial section has been complete.

So if the penalty is £40 - you send off a cheque for £41 -IT MUST issue a refund for £1 and register payment has been made -

BUT DO NOT CASH THE CHEQUE -DUMP IT

the system remains open and cannot generate a "SEND YOUR LICENSE FOR ENDORSEMENT"

Looking through engine specs for the Mark VI Golf today, I noticed that the effect of adding a DSG gearbox seems to be reversed depending on whether you have a petrol or diesel engine.

tinyurl.com/qed7ks

Economy is increased by a few mpg for the petrol versions, and decreased by a few mpg for the diesels. There's a concomitant effect on CO2 emissions.

Can anyone explain why? Obviously one's gear-changing habits should change between a petrol and a diesel, but surely Volkswagen could take this into account in the programming of the DSG 'box? Read more

Each to their own i can't abide any of these automated manuals whatever they're called.

Personally I'd much rather have a DSG box on my car, rather than the antiquated auto that I have with a torque converter and planetary gears.

But I am not claiming that you are wrong and I am right - it's just personal preference as you say.

Prompted by the other thread...

I sometimes park totally on the pavement in front of my house when loading the car - otherwise I have to park 100 yards away.

There is a dropped ramp - for wheelchairs and pushchairs no doubt - which means I do not have to drive over non-dropped kerbs. The pavement is wide enough for people to get past with wheelchairs.

Somebody told me that parking on the pavement is 3 points. Is it?

There's another problem with this, however. Just round the corner from home is a road, residential only, with wider pavements. Folks park all four wheels and there is room for another car to pass between them and the garden walls, so no probs for prams, etc.
A couple of roads come out on this road. Coming up to the junction on the minor road, you cannot see if anything is coming from the left because you cannot now see beyond the parked car without coming out into the main road up to your windscreen. sometimes a bit hairy due to the speed of approaching cars.

My old Merc 230TE auto (J reg) has started to 'hunt' on tickover when warmed up. It goes from 1000-1500 revs but is consistent ie it keeps going. Up for MOT soon so wonder would a good petrol additive (is ther one?) help things along? Cheers Dodo Read more

When the air conditioning is switched on in an older version of a Fusion (2003) the engine cooling fan does not immediately switch on at any time of the year and run continuously until the air conditioning is switched off. The older Fusion engine cooling fan very rarely switches on automatically due to weather conditions when the air conditioning is switched off or is on.
This is unlike a later version Fusion (2005) which has the engine cooling fan running continuously whenever the air conditioning is switched on and at any time of the year/weather condition.
The 2005 Fusion engine cooling fan normally only switches on if the weather is hot when the air conditioning is switched off.
