* Fuel economy improved to 72.4mpg
It`s coming on isn`t it? If the trend continues it`s going to seem to challenge Fiat Punto`s. - perhaps in the next incarnation?
Punto diesel
(best 120 mile return = 79mpg
(best one way = 81mpg
The real point of this post (outside the well meaning snigger) is to ask why they didn`t fit a diesel engine?
Best regards (It`s only humour ;-) Read more
Hi
me again
Problem with drivers door only unlocking with the key, and the hatch wont unlock/lock!!
The dealer takes all day to tell me theres a problem with the locks!!!!
Now I have to take it back as he has to order the lock parts , the Ford Mondeo must be an unusual model, they dont keep any in stock.!
Wish I had bought japanese. Never had these door lock problems with my saab, audi, toyota, OR my OLD BMW.

My local Ford dealer only keeps fast moving parts in stock and orders everything else.
My interpretation of this is, if they have it in stock then it's a common failure part, buy a spare one.
Hi
Anyone heard of a petrol car suffering from a blocked cat?
I thought only diesels had this problem?
Ford main dealer claiming that the reported lack of power may be due to a blocked cat and want to remove them to check?
I think the problem is due to a failed IMRC unit.
many thanks for your input.

I had a problem with a back box that corroded internally and let the wadding block the outlet.
I shaped a piece of wire into a hooked end and went 'fishing' down the tailpipe. I pulled out copious amonts of wadding. I removed the back box and fished it all out from the other end as that had a larger hole closer to the box.
Sitting in the car park, waiting for wife to turn up, I noticed that the Merc parked beside me had it's door lock buttons on the rear edge of all 4 doors, rather than clustered around the B pillar as in most cars. Good idea I thought. But then I thought, hang on, what are they there for? In the days before remote central locking the driver unlocked his door with a strangely shaped piece of metal and then stretched across to lift the button on the passenger door. If you forgot to reach past the B pillar and open the rear offside door BEFORE you climbed in, you were into serious contortions, and as for the nearside rear, well that passenger had to make their own arrangements!
But these days you can't even operate them manually. The mushroom head has gone (quite right) and, in the name of theft resistance, they vanish down into the door. There is no need for them, so why are they still there?

Hi, I have a 04/54 Audi A3 2.0 TDi S-Line DSG, it has done 60,000 miles, always been serviced etc, about 4 months ago, Starting the vehicle became difficult, sounded different, took a while, loads of black smack, and when it would start it would shake, like a very bad mis fire, got it booked in the garage, diagnosed the fault as a Number 4 Injector, had it replaced with a brand new one, and it was good as new!
Was driving along last week and I felt something happen to the car which I could not describe, went from smooth to being more like a tractor and misfiring heavy! With the glowplug light on the dash flashing, which then went out after stop and re start, on re start it felt as if it had gone back to how it was before the injector was replaced, struggled to start, black smoke, smelt like burning diesel, when it drives it jumps along at 1400-1600 revs, but hwen you get over them revs it is fine.
I have took it to a Audi Specialist who repaired the injector originally, and they cant find a fault with the diagnostic machine, so I have run it down to my local Audi dealer for diagnostic to see if they can shed any light..
Has any one any info on this or similar problems?
Any info appreciated,
Regards,

A guess would be that it may be the wiring loom that is immersed in oil inside the cam cover on these engines. This is a rare but not unheard of problem that causes these types of symptom. Has the dealer considered this instead of blaming the injectors ?
I have a peugeot 406 2.0 HDi RHZ 2001 with air con. A few months ago a valve snapped and mashed the engine up quite badly. Since then I have replaced the engine with another RHZ and put new belts on.
Since the new engine has been in I have had more issues. Firstly it was flashing up the engine antipollution device warning so I have swapped the EGR valve with the one from the old engine.
Today I had the faults cleared from when I put the EGR valve on. Went to start it and it wouldn't fire up. It is turning over but not firing. I knew it had low fuel but still some in but because my fuel gauge was low I put 5L of diesel in anyway, bled up and it started. Got less than half a mile and it cut out again. I was close to a petrol station so decided to put another 5 litres in. Did the same again and it started again. Got about 100yards and it stopped again. Decided to call AA. He checked tank fuel pump, was fine. Fuel getting up to filter no problem. Plugged computer in and it showed cam shaft intermittent fault. Changed cam shaft, started no problem. Left idling about 3 mins, cut out. Still struggles to start.
I have ran out of things to check and refuse to pay peugeot loads of money for them to tell me they dont know whats wrong.
Any ideas would be very welcome.

Derbyshire has plastered yellow signs everywhere announcing 'Bike Crash Zones' - I keep feeling I must immediately crash the bike.....
I reckon car drivers are getting alarmed as I keep coming across mimsers who slow down to 25mph when I come up behind them. Not much help when there are double white lines.

Mimsers should be limited to drive at 10mph then we can all legally pass them on double whites.

My mum has a very squealy fanbelt on her usually good 1.8 Diesel '97 fiasco. I've tried loosening and tightening but can't stop the noise. It's quiet at idle but much faster and it drowns out the engine noise.
It's sitting correctly on each pulley, so I wonder whether it's been routed wrong. It goes round crank, then power steering pump then idler then alternator before returning to crank pulley. Is this right?
Any useful suggestions?
Can anyone look under their bonnets for me please and check theirs....
thanks Read more

The next Ford Focus could be quite interesting with their 'EcoBoost' system (1.0 Litre engine with turbo to produce 89Bhp or 108Bhp).
Ford claim that EcoBoost will deliver 15% to 20% more economy for the petrol engines.
They must be quite confident as they are going to roll this system out on almost all of their petrol engined cars in the next 5 to 10 years
Vauxhall are being very quiet with their next version of the Vauxhall Astra so far.
