Sat at a roundabout waiting to turn left. Near side lane (bus lane) had a bus going straight over. I was turning left and to my right was a lane going straight over the roundabout. The white line infront of me went straight from the kerb to the center of the road infront of all three lanes. Isn,t it usual for one of these lanes to be graduated in some way. who has priority? I should have thought that the middle lane are aproaching from the bus drivers right hand side on a roundabout but it was obvious buses (2) had no intention of even slowing down. I imagine it would be very easy for a driver watching the roundabout whilst turning left to be over/undertaken by a bus with dire consequences. Read more
The key goes in, turns, dash lights come on, try to start, won't turn over. Nothing. Try again (repeat X times) & suddenly it turns and starts!
I think this is the same as a Ford Ranger.

Never had, or seen, one of these before.
Got a reminder from the DVLA about the 24th May that my Sorn/Road Tax was due to expire and I should make arrangements to renew.
This came in ' postcard ' form, not in an envelope and was available for anyone to read.
Strangely, I had already renewed, online, about a week earlier and the disc was already on the windscreen !
Anybody else had one...and why ?

People would complain if they got caught and Nanny State hadn't reminded them... (bear in mind MOT threads here!) >>
;-) A reminder for a reminder. Where will it end?
Seriously though, I wonder what/who decided that it was a good idea to send these postcards as a 2nd reminder. There is one sentence on there which is probably the news [although not news to this forum as it has been mentioned on previous threads here] that they are trying to convey to those who are not yet aware:
"If you pay for your vehicle tax before the current tax disc runs out, then you can legally drive or keep your vehicle on the road while displaying the tax disc that has run out, for up to five working days."
[Note it says working days, not calendar days].
I shall try to post a link to an image of the postcard later.
Afternoon everyone.
I have a Citroen Picasso 11 months old and coming up for its first service. I was about to book it in when by chance found the following on the net.
www.servicingstop.co.uk/
Seems a bit to good to be true, they have over 750 garages nationwide, promise to pick up your car from home then deliver back after service. including a wash and vac
they use genuine parts and will not invalidate you car warranty.
The servicing costs are very competetive.
Anyone used this people, I've not heard of them before, just a little bit suspicious.
Thanks Read more
Price given for full Colt service is a lot cheaper than the discounted dealer price
I paid last month
..that wouldn't be difficult - Mitsubishi dealer servicing prices are insane, at least for Colt. I've never looked after a car before that had to have its pollen filter changed every year, for example.
I'm looking at a V5 for a NI registered car. TAZ nnnn
I assumed it was a '98. Wikipedia says Belfast 1993-99
V5 special notes say: Was registered and/or used. Declared manufactured 1998.
V5 also says: Date of first registration: 01 04 2002
Date of first registration in the UK: 01 04 2002
I'd assumed NI was part of the UK. Is it not so for vehicle registrations?
It's my daughter's car and I'm getting rid of it for her. It'll be on ebay from this evening if anyone wants to bid! Read more
you wont have the original log book swansee see took that when they issued the new one see
There has been a bit of discussion recently in the press about an EU Directive which, in countries where adopted (apparenly most of the rest of Europe) gives consumers 2yrs guarantee on stuff they buy.
UK Government has said it's a bit irrelevant here as SOGA etc gives people rights for up to 6 years (5 in Scotland).
So, how come this doesn't appear to apply to cars? Is it just that people generally aren't prepared to push the issue, or is there some reason why it isn't applicable? Read more
what does BERR mean? >>
As DD and his googling said.
The old name for this Department was DTI.
However, Gordon decided to create some IT jobs [changing all the DTI web site pages and links ], plus some more printing jobs [all the headed paper etc. had to be reprinted] plus some other jobs such as new brass plates outside the building to say BERR in place of DTI. I am sure I have missed out many other jobs that Gordon created in the process.
he didnt get his leggin on a car so put it in the road instead

He could have at least said "tar" to the emergency services. :)
Just checking the likes of autocar web site and found that the future of cars seems to be leading to small engines (1.0 Litres to 1.4 litres) with turbo's.
This got me thinking that are we going to end up a nation of non paying road tax (sorry I mean Vehicle Exercise Duty) as all of these cars are 'green' ?
So where is the government going to get its £32 billion per year from ?
Or will the government change the taxation rules yet again to make these future cars not so green ?

Even when electric cars are the norm - decade after next, perhaps - they'll just find another way to raise revenue from us.

I don't understand some drivers' obsession with needing all the signs and lines that we get nowadays. When I learned to drive there were few signs or lines and everyone managed OK. Now I still manage OK, despite all the signs and lines. What I do is give priority to watching what the other traffic is doing, rather than looking at the signs and lines.
