I had one as a courtesy car while the Rio was in.

Good points :-
The brakes are very good.
Turning circle is brilliant.
Quite poky around town

Bad points :-
Its not a bad car around town but on the motorway its terrible.
You need patience of a saint to achieve 80mph and then you wish you never bothered
Just don't expect to put much shopping in the boot (it's very small)

The diagnostic warning lamp comes on when the car stops at traffic jam for more than 5 minutes. When driving normal again the lamp is off. Any idea ?

hi
glad to help, i had a 405 and a 205 both had cooling system troubles, previous owners not looking after them. peogeot are very particular regarding cooling, everything has to be right more so in summer.
it's a good few years since i owned them and if i remember rightly on the radiator is a combined flow and level switch.
it is on the left hand side of the rad, as you stand in front of the car and look down on the rad.
it is quite a large item compared to the rest of bits on the rad, this switch can get full of muck as well, so if you have to do anymore work on the rad take the switch out and clean it.
please ensure you use good quality antifreeze with the right inhibitor, i presume yours is a petrol model with an aluminium engine, because on the 405, the previous owner had not, it had leaks on the engine casting which i eventually fixed. hopefully yours won't be anywhere as bad.

I believe it's a fairly common problem for the boot lock switch on the C-Max to fail when a bit of moisture gets it. I've read somewhere, and I can't recall where, that it's just a microswitch that needs replacing instead of the Ford option which is the complete unit at £££'s.

Has anyone any experience of replacing the microswitch and is it the type of thing I'm likely to find in Maplins? Read more

Having read the thread regarding cyclist and RTA's. I would like to pass on this very important information. I recently discovered after a local campaign regarding fire station closures. That Road Traffic Accidents no longer exist (RTA's). The emergency services in keeping with political correctness now have re-named RTA's to RTC's (Road Traffic Collisions). Fire services throught the country are currently implementing strategic plans and integrated risk management plans. To do this they need to utilise the fire service emergency toolkit computer model (FSEC). Why is this important because the FSEC computer does not recognise RTC's it would be overwhelmed. Again you ask why is this so important. Because you are 7x more likely to die in an RTC than an urban dwelling fire. So be reminded when they review the strategic plan in your area and the disposition of resources ask the question why RTC's are not included in FSEC. I do believe that one fire brigade has thrown the FSEC toolkit out. Read more

I know nothing about this situation but am not surprised that things need to change. The world has changed, and in particular in the area of despatching field staff there are vastly improved communications, satnav, CCTV - all kinds of developments which probably mean that local knowledge is much less important and make regionalisation more possible.

While it may not be broken, there are probably large savings to be made on duplicated roles, unnecessary office space and all the overheads that go with that. While I am not an advocate of downsizing for it's own sake, I don't think that stuff should stay the same just to keep the unions happy.

Wasn't there a huge dispute in the last few years over modernising the fire service, which involved giving employees inflation busting pay rises in return promises or am I dreaming?

Thanks very much for the quick replies !!

Yes I did read the road tests on this site and thought your review was very informative as your reviews usually are !!

I would consider the petrol CVT but do wonder if resale value will hold up as much as the diesel and driving a diesel at the moment do like the extra torque you get !!

Unfortunately it is hard to find a Toyota dealer with a Automatic to test drive but I believe there is one being put on the road in the next few weeks at my Toyota dealer

Hi all

Long time lurker - just to let you know of a recent spate of card-cloning, which appears to be linked back to a petrol station near Chipping Norton. Can't say which one since technically it is unproven, although having seen a thread on the town's website forum, there is one very very guilty-looking party! Sherlock Holmes would be able to leave this one to Watson, I reckon.

If any of you have filled up in the last month or so near Chippy and didn't pay cash, then I'd check your account very closely; I had money withdrawn in Manila, girlfriend in Tanzania, and about 30 other folk on the town forum alone. The number of people actually affected probably runs into thousands I should think, seeing as how it is on a 'thru road' so gets a lot of non-local traffic!

What is a bit distressing is that the same petrol station was at the 'centre of an enquiry' for exactly the same thing about 18 months ago... Following advice from the town's website forum, I reported it to the police yesterday, however they basically said that it was pointless them taking the details since it is now the banks that have most responsibility for tracking and investigating this kind of fraud, not the police!

Anyway, from now on I'll only pay cash when I fill up. Thought this would 'never happen to me', but when they're brazenly taking the details of everybody that fills up over a couple of months, the odds of it happening to you go up quite a lot. Read more

So what is best way of dealing with currency for foreign holidays now?

I would suggest an Abbey/Santander Zero Card. I take out currency locally in Spain. The rate is near commercial and there are no additional charges. You just have to pay it off asap when you get home. Remeber if using the card in a shop always select local currency for payment though.

I've just ordered some Euros from the Post Office and one of the pick up places I was offered was the RAC in Pall Mall. Having had a look on their website they claim it's one of only 3 private POs. I wondered if it was open to the public as it is listed as a collection point and whether anyone had used it? Read more

I rather think it is. I mean, they may have been churning out rubbish for years in the form of reheated Leyland Sherpas but the latest Maxus does seem very modern and perhaps a worthy competitor for the best. In any case, it doesn't say much about a 'socialist' government, does it?

Not a surprise, the quality or lack thereof of their products was an insult to humanity. I'm sorry to say that we should,'t buy carp just to keep people in jobs.

My car is fitted with the 1.4 Peugeot / Ford TDCi diesel engine. The car has been great until now. The problem I am having is when I am driving the engine suddenly loses power briefly and then it picks up just as quickly again. My very helpful local Mazda dealer diagnosed defective 'boost valve'. However, despite fitting a new boost valve, the problem persists and the engine still loses power briefly and once the clutch is dipped and the engine revved it is back to normal. None of the warning lights on the dash illuminate when this occurs. Has anyone had the same problem. I am hoping to take the car on holiday soon and my confidence in it on the wane. Thanks Read more
