thinking buying one under scrapage scheme
any information would be helpfull

My son is interested in buying this car under the scrappage scheme and spoke to a local dealer (North Somerset) on this subject and, in particular, regarding the price which has recently increased by some £300.

I understand that the model number/designation has recently changed too and, presuming some minor improvement, so has the price.

More important, however, was the fact that the dealer advised that all 2009 versions of the Picanto have now been sold and thus the reason for the change in model designation and price.

It appears that you would have to order the car now for delivery in 2010 !!!

Dealers won't be able to order the base model and get it quickly. You will however find some dealers will have stock already and will be able to supply. You'll have to organise things on the phone and travel to pick the car up, for some reason people don't like to do this.

A friend of mine was looking at one until he had a test drive of it. He said even compared to his 1.1 95 Fiesta the engine felt flat and called it a noddy car. He has now ordered a Fiat Panda which he said was far far nicer to drive.

I recomended him the Panda.

So it is probably worth test driving other cheap cars too. Daweoo [or chevy or what ever] are doing the Matiz cheap as well although they don't seem to be rated.

I had one as a courtesy car while the Rio was in.

Good points :-
The brakes are very good.
Turning circle is brilliant.
Quite poky around town

Bad points :-
Its not a bad car around town but on the motorway its terrible.
You need patience of a saint to achieve 80mph and then you wish you never bothered
Just don't expect to put much shopping in the boot (it's very small)
