So i get home to find a NIP from Gwent police to say i was caught on camera doing 68 in a 50 zone that was near the m4 toll plaza. Now from what i can remember i never saw any 50 limit signs at all and the fact that is says 68 indicates to me i 'thought' it was a 70 limit.
I am in no way saying that i was not doing 68 in a 50, just that i was not aware it was a 50. Does anyone know that bit of road at all and can confirm signage relating to limits there, and as far as i was aware you could not have cameras on motorways unless there were variable speed limits in place, roadworks as an example.
Just annoying as first ticket in 15 years of motoring
thanks

Hi all,
My sister has found a car she likes and as being the only one free tomorrow in our house i have agreed to go and see it with her so she can have my opinion on it. Its done 102,000 miles its a 51 reg and they are asking £1995. One of the front fog lights is broken and the air con is not blowing very cold so these would need to be fixed before she got the car. They also said they would give it a service before they handed over the car. I gather that it should have had at least two cam belt changes done so far is this correct??. is there anything else i need to be looking out for? No idea about service history so ill ask tomorrow and see what they say.
any advice welcome :)
thanks
Adam

The previous onwer of that car should be banned from driving allowing the brakes and tyres to get that bad (assuming the MOT inspector is correct) :(.
Ilegal tyres is just my biggest pet hate as there is no excuse at all for it.
I hope someone can help me here...
I have a friend whose wife is ill and is eligible for the Motability allowance. So they signed up and got a prestige car on it. This required them to stump up some money up front as part of the deal (as I understand, it's not a Micra or anything).
Now, things are changing and the Motability benefit his wife is entitled to may end shortly.
My question is : what happens to the car & the money that's been paid in this case ?
They've only had the car 2 months. If they hand the car back without any of the original money being refunded then they've had a very expensive hire car.
Does anyone know what happens in this case ?
cheers

My Girlfriend's Punto has started coming up with three warning lights on startup - the yellow engine management light, the red temperature light and the red 'steering whee;' light (or whatever it's called. They stay illuminated for a few seconds after starting and then go out. They only started doing this the other day.
Does anyone know what this might mean? I've check the oil and coolant, and the levels are fine, and it seems to drive ok. Had a new engine management system fitted about 6 months ago. Read more
AFAIR all the lights SHOULD come on when the key is turned, and go out quite quickly.
They don't normally show themselves on starting.
Consider a few things:
battery getting sufficiently spongy for the ECU to be upset with the voltage drop caused by turning the engine over.
or a poor electrical connection.
or going to look in another place where they worry about FIATs a lot - WWW.FIATFORUM.COM
The Electronic Stability Program light remains on while driving - is there an easy way to reset this myself please?
Many thanks

Thank you for your opinions and clarifying the ECN (I feared that it couldn't be that simple!) - the car is booked in for its service so will no doubt be able to clear this up then.

Since i can't find a way to post a new thread on this confounded site, i put my twopenceworth here.
In 2005, bought new Picasso 110bhp diesel Desire. Had it for 3-1/2 yrs, and got over 50mpg on all but one tank of diesel. (Car thrashed in emergency--then many very short runs).
Bought duplicate car in november2008 (except colour) and only twice have i managed to exceed 50mpg. Usually 43-49, but most common is 47mpg.
Car is used on same journeys every week. Driver technique didn't suddenly change on 1/11/2008!!!!
Can anyone explain why i can't get decent fuel economy out of this new car?
Has anyone had similar experience?

Hi, my Focus is over revving when coming to a stop. Hitting the brakes sends the revs really high, and the only way to cure it is to brake sharp, take foot off the brakes and then brake again to bring revs back to normal. Makes me look like a boy racer and frightens anyone crossing the road in front of me! Happens intermittently. Also, today the clutch felt really heavy and wouldn't depress properly at first. When I got it in gear there was virtually no power pulling away. Pulled over and left it for a minute and it seems to have sorted itself out, but wonder what is causing it and if it is likely to happen again. The clutch is slipping and now due a new cam belt (done 89,000 miles and 10 years old) but as I know nothing about cars, don't know if any of this is significant. Would welcome any suggestions. Thanks. Read more
It's not cheap for a poxy potentiometer, which is all it is, but it's worth paying for to fix the problem. The amount of extra fuel you are using with the over-revving shenanigans will pay for itself in no time anyway.
You can swap it yourself in a couple of minutes. It's only two teeny little hex or alan key screws from what I remember and is very simple.
I had the engn management light come on my Polo earlie this week. Today my BiL read the codes using the kit in the garage he works for. The error code was 16706 or P0322.
This is the crank speed sensor I believe. He had a quick look in the engine bay to see if we could spot where it is located but he couldn't find it.
Anyone one know which end of the engine the crank sensor is located?

Did you ever find out where the crankshaft position sensor is. I have exactly the same problem (error code P0322) on a VW Polo 2000 (engine code AUD) and need to know where the troublesome part is so that I can replace it
Thanks
Getting what I think is an excellent deal scrapping an old and very rusty Fiesta diesel for a new Golf for my mum. Has anyone driven the new Golf with the 1.6TDi 90 bhp engine? Is there a roadtest anywhere for it? Thanks Read more
Hi, In the throws of buying the same vehicle but can only get a maximum of £3950 off this vehicle with scrappage.
Would be interested to know where in the country this dealer is located.
Thanks in advance.
About 6 weeks ago, my wife purchased a Smart Roadster from a well known car supermarket, which provides a 30 day warranty. Along with this we purchased a 5 star warranty from a well known breakdown organisation. All bases covered, I thought.
Two weeks ago, and the car demonstrated a fault, 2 days outside the 30 day warranty. The car has the usual Smart semi-auto gearbox and what happened was this: the car cut out and the gear display on the dash went blank, followed by three parallel bars, indicating that no gear could be selected. Bah. Disconnected the battery for 5 minutes, and hey presto it's all working again. I drive it to the local Smart dealer, about a mile from my house. My reasoning is that they're local, they're specialists, they'll be able to fix it easily and if I try to do it through the car supermarket where it was bought, I'm in to a logistical nightmare, and in any case, they'll refuse to fix it gratis as we're two whole days outside their 30 day warranty.
The dealer identifies the fault as the "actual gear sensor", gets the replacement part, and fixes it. 200 quid, thanks. Call my warranty company I say. He does, and tells them the fault. They ask: "Is the faulty part integral to the gearbox?". He says "No". They say "Tough luck then, not paying". I take it on the chin, grumble under my breath and pay up. Not worth the hassle arguing.
So. Forward a week, and there I am pootling down the road when......yes, car cuts out, gear indicator goes blank, 3 bars of death appear on the display. 5 minutes without battery power and it's fine again.
So, back to the dealer it goes.
I am not looking for advice here as to what may be up with the car (although any suggestions would be welcome), however I'm unsure as to where to go regarding getting either the supplying dealer or the warranty company to help out financially here, as I'm now thinking that, if a main dealer can't fix it first time, chances are I'm stuck with a car which will keep throwing up the same fault, and be permanently spending money at the dealer.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I should proceed with this?

You're not going to get an answer to this as the last post was nearly five years ago.
Sorry!

Do write to your MP. Writing to my MP has been very interesting.
I'm amused by those comments from various people who are obviously perfect drivers and take the view that anyone caught speeding here or anywhere deserved it. We can't all be perfect drivers and I accept that I'm not one. But even though I was not perfect I hadn't been fined until this particular spot so I took a bit of interest in it just to see whether I could explain it to myself and as I have said compared with many other instances these signs are poor and I would contend inadequate. Now I could be wrong about that perhaps they are adequate but my point is that the best proof of whether they are adequate is that if they are there should not be a lot of fines in this area, so I would like to know whether there are.
Returning to the subject of writing to my MP. He is doing a very good job of appearing to take it seriously and first wrote to the Safety Camera Partnership Manager in May who palmed him off saying that it was the South Wales Police who would have to give that information. It has been necessary for him to go through the Freedom of Information Act to request this data and the first request appears to have been ignored so he sent a reminder to them which has now resulted in a refusal by the police to supply the information claiming exemption on three counts 1. Law Enforcement (no specific reason why) 2. Health and Safety (No specific reason why) 3. That giving this "detailed" information might enable arch criminals like myself to "identify patterns of enforcement activity".
Well my MP, to his credit without me needing to press has appealed forcefully against this refusal and so I hope that I will find out how many fines there are in this spot.
However, a second approach from another MP would add weight and I can't see really why anyone here who has an interest can't support that.
If you are interested in road safety and want to support the use of cameras remember that safety is only improved if people slow down. If, for some reason, lots of people are still speeding, would it not be sensible to ask why and if a lot of money has been generated could someone not spend a tiny fraction of it on more or better signs to see if that really improved safety by reducing the number of people speeding? The only objection I can see to that is that putting up better signs would reduce the "take" and hit the budget.
It is certainly interesting that the South Wales police seem so reluctant to disclose this information.
For anyone interested in writing to their MP you could make reference to the fact that Nick Ainger, MP for Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire is following this up at the moment.
