Please help me.
I recently bought Picasso with 147,000 miles and it has a Bosch EDC16C3 ECU.
While in Somerset the engine died, and the MIL was on. A local garage diagnosed dirty diesel, cleaned the tank, replaced the filter and switched off the MIL. I filled the tank at Morrison?s in Glastonbury.
A week later, tank nearly empty (87 mile range left), near home in Slough the MIL came back on, I headed for home but the engine died on the way. The starter turned the engine over quickly. The display said ?Economy mode active?. The red battery light stayed on even after removing the ignition key. Green flag brought me home.
I felt the intermitant nature was probably an electrical fault. I undid and squirted switch cleaner into every connection I could find. I checked every fuse was ok. I checked the engine to body earth by checking for a voltage difference while the starter was turning the engine. Still wouldn't start.
A friend attached his ELM & laptop and gave me the codes:
P0087 ? Diesel high pressure monitoring. Pressure below the reference value. (leak).
P1113 ? Diesel high pressure regulation circuit. Rail pressure below minimum pressure.
P1351 ? Pre/Post heating relay circuit. Relay not controlled and glow plugs supplied.
I bought the Haynes manual found the glow plug relay, checked it was clicking in/out. Guessed that the big wires were power/earth and the 4 medium wires probably went to the glow plugs and checked the ampage consumed. 2 took about 10 amps, one about half that and the last one nothing. I took off the air-filter and ducting, found the glow-plugs (with a light & a mirror) and spotted that the left end glow-plug was disconnected. I found a nut/washer and reattached it. I ignored the half power glow-plug as it?s probably doing something. I guess that has fixed the P1351 code. But still wouldn't start.
I added a gallon of fresh diesel and bled some out of the bottom of the Delphi fuel filter which looked perfect. It fired up for a few seconds then died again.
I guess the P0087 & P1113 codes mean a fault in the HP pump, fuel filter, fuel injectors or HP fuel sensor on the common rail. Since the fuel filter has been changed, I guess that it?s not that. It looks like the HP pump runs off the timing belt so I?m not changing that, unless I know it is that. The injectors need to be added to the ECU by a Citroen garage so I can?t change them my-self. The HP fuel preasure sensor is part of the common rail, Citroen say it can?t be changed. I can?t run some injector cleaner through, as I can?t start the engine.
The starter still turns the engine over quickly but it doesn?t fire. The MIL is still on. The display still says ?Economy mode active?. The red battery light still stays on even after removing the ignition key.
I disconnect the battery and charge it between attempts.
I don?t know what to try next, someone please point me in the right direction.

this problem is a common leaking injector, gives both these codes, but watch they wont come out!!!!because of the buildup of carbon around them(use coke over night to kill corbon tip i was told)if your lucky it might just go with a tighten as they also come loose.

I'm just having a scout around autotrader for used automatic Mini convertibles (for future reference - may well get one in a couple of years, or even sooner if our Smart Roadster proves to be unfixable as per my previous thread about the gear selector being up the spout).

Some adverts say "Automatic CVT", others say "Tiptronic". Is it the case that Mini have sold models with both types of transmission? If so, are there specific model variants which have CVT, others which have Tiptronic? Or could any variant be ordered with either gearbox? Or is there only one type of auto transmission, and some advertisers don't know what they're talking about and selected the wrong type of transmission wording?

Also, does anyone have any experience of driving automatic Minis (talking about the BMW jobs here, not the old proper Minis)? I like Tiptronic autos, not so sure about CVTs never having driven one.

Cheers! Read more

Thanks. Sounds interesting.

If we sold our Smart Roadster and Mazda 6 we'd have enough in the pot for a a 2006ish Mini Convertible. Hmm.

In 2005 my wife and I purchased 2 Picantos from a local Kia dealer. An LX and an SE. In 2007 my wifes car started to play up. When you took your foot off the accelerator the engine continued to rev. A quick computer diagnosis by the dealer showed a faulty temperature sensor which was duly fitted and all appeared well. The car had 12000 on the clock at this point. Having driven my SE while hers was in dock my wife said that mine seemed very sluggish compared to hers, so an appointment was made to get it checked out a few days hence. This one had done 25000 miles. We had to make a round trip of some 500 miles in the meantime and took my wifes' newly repaired car. Halfway through the trip the same problem manifested itself. I immediately arranged for the dealer to look at both cars at the same time and with a struggle got the car back home. We delivered both cars to the dealer first thing in the morning and at 5 returned to pick them up. We were literally gobsmacked to be told that both cars required a new short engine. The problem apparently was that the pulley on the end of the crankshaft that drives the timing belt had come loose and screwed up the end of the crankshaft. The fact that this happened on both cars and was diagnosed on the same day was somewhat alarming. Furthermore KIa were not prepared to provide even one courtesy car for the 3 weeks it was going to take to fix the cars. In the end our dealer, who also happened to be a Peugot dealer, registered 2 brand new peugot 207s for our use, they were brilliant. I understand from the dealer that this has now happened on several vehicles, some of them just out of warranty so incurring hefty bills for the owners.
My wife and I both actually like the cars but have lost all faith in Kia and would not hesitate to get rid of them could we afford it. We both actively advise people to avoid Kia altogether as a result of this experience. Any others had this problem? Read more

legal advice

Hi everyone, This problem has ocurred with my girlfriend Kia picanto. We are going to take legal action. If you bought it from a reputable company ie Hidsons you have more leal rights. The problem is that this is a design fault and will keep on happening and cannot be permantly resolved. As someone who makes it his business to buy and sell vehicles, he must conform to the responsibilitiesset out in the sale and supply of goods act (1994). Also if there turns out to be a problem with the vehicle you can ask for your money back for the vehicle which you are entitled to recieve either the full cost of the vehicle back, or the difference in value between the cost of the vehicle you paid for and the one you actually bought. However you must act quickly send the sale company- Kia a letter in writting as the more you leave it, the more credible becomes the defence.

You may also want to report the seller (if a dealer) to the trading standards authorities. ...

I got 3 points back in 2000, that's it for me. nothing until this year

did a speed awareness course for being flashed 4 months ago, I am having a bad year as within 24 hours recently I got two letters for being flashed (honestly not a fast driver) from different authorities. One was for driving through s london too fast at 7:00 AM sunday morning

anyway, this London one are now offering me a course. I have already done one. It says on the form that you cant do more than one in 3 years

So, what are my chances of getting away with it? I have the sort of job it wouldn't go down too well if I was done for whatever it is I could get done for. Which I guess answers my question Read more

Previous course was in 2000 so either deleted or ignored as over three years ago.

The OP says they were flashed and did a course 4 months ago. They last got points in 2000 so they don't count any more anyway.

So it seems they have been caught speeding three times in four months. And the original course 4 months ago did not work.

My Ka is overheating but the light isn't coming on in the dash. The light works ok as it tests at start up. The radiator fan does not come on either but does when I unplug the wiring on the coolant temp sensor. I have bled system, checked thermostat and checked for any blockages and fitted new temp sensor and no change. I am now thinking maybe the water isn't passing the coolant temp sensor and the problem is the water pump. In the haynes manual it says I need to remove the wheel arch liners, front bumper and headlight to fit a new water pump. Has anyone done this themselves that could advise whether I do have to do all that?
many thanks Read more

Just had cylinder head gasket go, mechanic says water pump failure has caused this. Pity no temp gauge and I definately had no red warning light. Thought this might be of interest to others.

Please no lectures, what I did was wrong and won't happen again. Any advice will be much appreciated as I've never been in this situation before. I have no excuses for what I did, putting it simply, it was a huge mistake which will never happen again!

I'm due in court next week and have hired a local Laywer to help me with the case. Obviously the huge negative is I was way over the legal limit, blowing 123mg. I suppose the only things which will go for me is i'm 22, have a clean license, held the same job for over 5 years and also do voluntary work (teaching children) twice a week each evening. Both my job and volutary work require a car for travel (each over 20 miles away from where I live). Obviously I will receive a ban, but can anyone advise what other punishments I may get??

I have seen my Dr for depression and being unable to eat due to the fear of prison. I am def going to lose my job and the kids I teach will suffer (Freestyle Dance Teacher). I realise it's my own fault, but am really worried that this mistake is going to turn my life upside down?

No previous conviction, driving offences and thankfully nobody was injured. It was simply a routine stop and a Drink Drive charge. I really cannot apologise enough!

Any advise and help will be much appreciated. Thanks, Link. Read more

I got an email from Lincoln yesterday, asking if I could post the following on his behalf (as the thread is locked):

"can you let everyone know that I got the following...

28 months ban (reduced to 21 months when doing course)
200 hours community service"

Sorry Lincoln for forgetting to post this yesterday. DD.

EDIT - looks like this was what was hidden from view above, which is why Lincoln asked me to post it

EDIT once more - have now sorted out the problem of half the messages in this thread being hidden. Hopefully the relevant ones should now be visible again to all and not just the moderators

I had a nail in one of my tyres today as as it was a cheap and nasty thing already on the car and down to 3mm I thought it was best to replace it. I called the local tyre guy out and I asked him to fit a mid range tyre he fitted a Cooper Sportmaster GLE and charged £46 including balancing. The tyre looks pretty good but I can't find anything about these tyres on the net.

If the tyre is half decent I might get the same person out to replace the other on a few months time as that is down to 3.5mm and again is a cheap fastfit special.

All I know is they are apart of Avon and properly more popular in the USA than Europe? Read more

"What car do you have the ZV5's on as I am on the brink of putting a pair of these on the front of my A4 Avant as they seem to be well priced and reasonably well though of."

They're on an 05 Galaxy 2.3 auto. The Galaxy needs extra load tyres and these replaced the original Michelin Pilots. The other options I had were Dunlop SPs or Michelin Excellence. I paid £89 per corner.

The Avons provide a comfy, grippy ride. Possibly slightly noisier than the Michelins. They are equally at home on the motorway or twisty, stop start Devon lanes. I think they are a relatively soft compound. They have a rim protector and are made in England.

Most people remember Avon for the old Enviros they used to do. These were rock hard, lasted for ages (as they were supposed to) and not very grippy - I've heard them referred to as 'ditchmasters'...

To cut a long story short, I pleaded guilty to a charge of 'Exceeding the Maximum Permitted Weight'. (15% Overloaded)

I apologised for the offence, and stated clearly that I had learnt a valuable lesson and also explained that there were mitigating circumstances.

I am not a professional haulier or 'tradesman'
The goods I picked up were for personal use, (flooring for my house)
I was advised by the company whose goods I was buying to rent a specific van. (Mercedes 3500 kgs Sprint Van)
I misunderstood that a 3500kgs van can't carry 3500kgs.

The officer stated in his statement that he prohibited the vehicle from continuing on,
however in actual fact I was allowed to continue home with the load intact.

I also added that I was to be made redundant, so would be without an income for a period of time.

I had a clean driving license and asked for leniency.
I got a £800 fine + £50 costs!

Now personally I thought this was extreme, having googled other people fines the vast majority of them being haulage firms who should know the law, they averaged between £75 - £700, even when they were 35% overloaded.

The maximum fine is up to £15,000 !!!

So Should I Risk An Appeal?????

Having read L'escargot's efforts to remove excess oil, I am wondering, is it a problem if the oil is overfilled?

I recently had an 'extra' (6,000 m) oil/filter service on my 1.6 TDCI, and it came back with the oil well over the top marker.

Should I follow L's example?

Thanks

Delicious, thanks. Interesting, rich bouquet. Lovely synthetic overtones.

Actually, I used two pieces of tubing, 2m of thin stuff to get into the sump and then 2m of thicker stuff attached to it. I sucked away at the end of the thicker stuff till the oil had come as far as the join, and then pulled the two pieces apart to allow the oil to siphon into an old whiskey bottle (well it had to be clear so as I could look at the oil...my excuse and I'm sticking to it). So I don't think that any 'oily' air actually got as far as my mouth. Certainly didn't taste anything.

Plan B, should I attempt this again, is to do this at a local car park where part of the park has an 8 foot drop down to the pavement, this should expedite siphoning.

I'm hoping 1/2 litre wasn't terminal, but I still will proceed with the wash and wax. You never know.

Dear all,

A few days ago I bought a used Citroen C5 2.0, petrol, 55 reg., 05-08 model, with 26,000 miles, 5 speed manual. I am worried about a noise, and I would appreciate some advice.

The noise changes with engine rev and gear. It happens in all gears. And if the car is parked, with the engine running on idle, in neutral, I can still hear it, but if I then press the clutch down, the noise disappears.

It seems to be from the front of the car, but closer to us than the engine. The source seems to be between the cabin and the engine, as if from behind the dashboard, like behind the radio, or between the dashboard and the engine.

I've opened the bonnet, but from there I can't hear any noise. From inside the cabin it is more noticeable, and it is a bit louder than the engine. Sometimes it sounds like a little person "gurgling" behind the radio! But a bit rougher though. Like a drier gurgling (if that could be possible... Sorry).

It does not stop if I turn the air con off.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am trying to get an appointment with the dealer who sold me the car, but they seem to be playing for time. But we don?t have much time, as we have to travel to the continent in 2 weeks.

Thank you very much in advance for any help,

If the car is stopped, the noise disappears when the clutch is depressed. I've always said that.

Update: I had my local mechanic check the transmission oil, and the level is correct.

More: from under the bonnet the noise is very evident. And disappears completely when the clutch is depressed.

Unfortunately my local mechanic can't tell for sure where it is coming from (seems to be from either gearbox or clutch), much less what the cause is.

Cheers,

Mark
