Have bought a scrapper zx (1997) to keep my 1993 in spares.

Car has a few months mot left but bodywise its rough.

It has the Bosch fuel pump which I have been informed can run on veggie oil.

Would like to give it a go for curiosity if nothing else.....is it simply a matter of going to my local tesco and buying a few litres of veggie oil and putting it in?

Can I sieve the contents of my deep fat fyrer or collect from the local chippie?

Seems to good to be true ....any advice welcomed! Read more

You should be fine as said up to 75% in these warmer temps until around October. Try 50:50 to begin with as it's easier to put some more in than take some back out!

legally you can use up to 2000 litres veg oil a year for personal use without paying duty or filing a declaration.

Chip shops usually use PALMAX or FRYMAX - solid white blocks of saturated palm or soya fat.

I have had the clutch changed recently on my car , and it seems ok , now the brake fluid warning light has come on twice in the last week and i have had to add fluid , this cant be right can it???? Any advice??? Read more

i hope you have looked to see if you can find where the fluid is going?
be aware if you dont stop driving it now you might kill someone
think of brake fluid as human blood, neither a car or a human is much good without it

The radiator fan on my punto 60 is making a right racket when it kicks in. I am trying to replace it but cannot access the top left nut (when looking at front). Does anybody know what the pump is that is stopping me getting access ? Read more

bell boy

just carefully smash the fan off if its flubered
you might also care to do this on the bench with the radiator if this helps (you will need sidecuts to remove the factory clips though)
there is a small 10mm headed bolt that you undo from above the front bumper as you stand in front of the car ,you have to pull down the small windshield to get to it .

i have had a strong smell of fuel for some time and no one managed to find it but today i took it too a different garage and he found it right away and has said that it is common on mondeo's and most places just replace the fuel pump Read more

the fuel leak was from inside the fuel pump they called it a fuel limiter. they said when that wears it causes a fuel leak and if i went to ford they would jsut say change the pump at a cost of over 1000 pounds

I have a 1995 grey-import Celica GT convertible (Gen6) it has 3SGE engine with 4speed automatic box.

The gearbox is holding too high a gear in "normal" mode - reluctant to downshift on hills/underload or when I kick it down, making he car is feeling very sluggish

When I switch it into "PWR" mode using the button next to the gear lever, it behaves much more normally - changes down much earlier, responds to throttle much more quickly and gives much more revs (as one would expect), although in some situatons does hold the gear more than would be expected.

Didn't think the gear-changes were as smooth as usual either.

I am sure it never used to be so sluggish in normal mode.

I recently flushed out the gearbox with a quality Dexron III recently, several changes, and the fluid level is at Max.

as far as I can see there is no kick-down cable to adjust (I have done this with other auto-cars I have had when there have been these problems) I assume it is electronic kickdown.

Is there anything that can be adjusted on this gearbox eg. selector cable (or is the selector electronic too ?)

maybe youve got some contaminant blocking a line after the flush
personally im of the mind if it aint broke dont fix it
dont get me wrong i would drop the fluid but i would then just fill up with fresh and run the box back in like a fine boned woman

Best way of looking after these? By that I mean keeping them clean / working. Or is dismantle & clean the best way?

I know they can be blanked off & turned off via the ecu - a reputable tuner would be able to do this, but not sure of any harm on this? Have heard that this may raise (Intake?) temperatures, and may affect the Turbo, and the manufacturers, but not sure how correct this is. Also not sure of any other affects - does it affect MPG. Some state that this may increase fule consumption - but by removing the egr valve (or turning it off at the ecu) shouldn't this actually improve mpg?

Any thoughts welcome.

That's strange, I was going to say that most VAG diesels seem to have more robust deigns but obviously I was wrong!

Is it just me or does the new Jaguar XJ look highly reminiscent of a Citroen C6? I've always been a massive fan of the XJ in all it's incarnations (even including the much criticised XJ40) and although I realise there needs to be a dramatic change from the current shape which isn't that far removed from the 1968 original, I cannot help thinking the new model lacks the "want one now" factor.

Dull, boring, bland, generic. I can't think of any more descriptions, I am too depressed. It just doesn't look special any more. I would say it looks like a Vauxhall, except that some of the newer Vauxhalls are much better looking. To summarise, this looks a bit like an Insignia, except not as stylish, and that is not what one should be saying about a new Jaguar. I couldn't sleep tonight, but this might send me off.

Afternoon all,

Could someone enlighten me as to where to put my new gearbox oil on a 1.3 Endura-E? There's two possible choices

Cheers

one hex is for filling
one is for emptying
unless you have the australian version you cant get them wrong (top front behind radiator)
confirm what is fitted in box though before topping up

Anybody any know the rough cost of leather seat repairs? Just the drivers seat on the edges of the actual seat not the backrest. Read more

Alby Back

Is it abrasion wear or a cut ? If the latter, it could reasonably easy to effect a self repair. If you can slide a pre-glued patch in underneath the cut with a bit of overlap to stick to the underside of the leather then press down to get a bond. Almost anything stickable will do the trick provided it has some substance but also some give. Bit of denim or something would be my choice. Don't use a "superglue" type adhesive though. They dry too hard and become sort of crispy. If you go into any DIY shop they will have a suitable adhesive.
