Hi,
My better half has an old...N regd...Clio auto. Its been a great car during the four years
she has owned it,actually a pleasure to drive. It looks like it will need some money spending on it shortly,so maybe its time to update and she would like something more
modern.
It seems quite difficult to find something as comfortable and nippy to replace it with and
most small autos, like the Jazz,Yaris etc fetch very high prices.
Are the later Clio auto boxes still troublesome?
She rather likes the C3,but I have no idea if their auto boxes are any good.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

Has anybody managed to remove the head unit for this cd system? It has developed an intermittent loss of sound to one or both channels. Almost certainly a connector because radio is fine. It's OK first thing but fault develops after a couple of hours Read more
There are lots of how to's and videos online such as:

A friend has a Volvo 240, reg. Jan '88, Estate, 2,316CC, & describes it as a "240 GLP". I can't find this model - only 240 GLE & 240 GLT. What is it really? How would I tell? The engine no. is in the high (11x0)1100s. Read more
I used to work in the motor trade + owned a 240 GLT but I've never come across a GLP before but - there is a 240 Polar listed here ~ www.volvoclub.org.uk/hmc/hmc_model.php in the Nethernever lands.
Got viciously attacked by a stone on the m/way yesterday, leaving me with a large crack in my windscreen. Cars being what they are today, it's laminated ,heat reflecting glass with light and wiper sensors installed.
The car is only two years old and I'd like to get it done through a Peugeot dealer, so there can be do arguments about honouring the warranty if problems arise. Any tips on dealing with the insurance company. I suspect they use the cheapest firm available. Read more
Well, the crack gets bigger. Autoglass have cancelled two appointments because they can't get the right (sat nav compatible) windscreen.
And they can't give me any idea either!!
reader's letter in one of today's papers describes how woman's loaded shopping trolley slid down supermarket car park slope and hit car, causing £300 damage. She claimed on her household insurance policy. Company paid out in full and commented that her claim was one of the first of its kind for them. Read more
I suggest that supermarket trolleys should be banned from all dual carrigeways, since they are slow moving and constitute a hazsrd to people carrying white sticks.
On second thoughts, maybe do away with sloping access ramps as all wheeled vehicles could move with out driver control.

I have a 2005 Jag xtype 2.0D. It has 98k on the clock and entering it into first gear it feels a bit stiff. Has anyone else had this problem on a Jag or Mondeo - I guess they are the same gearbox.
Also what is the solution? Can the oil be changed on these or are they sealed units?
thanks

Whats it like engaging reverse. If the same problem then likely to be clutch drag, if not then possible gear selector. Cheers
A nce tidy Hillman Imp (1971 model in a turquoise-blue colour) parked near Treorchy on Tuesday.
Didn't look like a "show" car, just clean and well-kept; exactly how I like to see cars of that vintage.
Another regular "rarity" I see on my travels is a 1964 Singer Vogue which is parked on the main road in Llanwrtyd Wells. Seems to be there regularly so I'm assuming it's never garaged. It's in tidy condition for its age too. Read more
Mike,
National Jowett weekend at Bideford...didn't go but Club Forum posters deemed it a great success.

Hi guys,
I service my faithful Saab now that its years are advancing but find the residual dashboard reminder annoying - does anyone out there know how to cancel the service reminder message.
Thanks in anticipation Read more
Not sure if this is any help or not?

Near Taunton, on the A358, cameras have appeared in the central reservation of the short dual carriage way section between Ruishton and the Lanport turning. There is also another set on the south side of Taunton on the Wellington road (A38). They look a little like the SPECS cameras (ie there is one camera per lane) though smaller, only one set, painted black, and lower to the ground. I have a deep distrust about any sort of cameras so stick to the limit when passing these just in case. However to be speed cameras do they HAVE to be painted yellow these days + have warning signs? There is no new signage on these stretches.
Does any one know what they are for?

Dont forget to swerve around the abandoned 4x4s and to dodge the unsignaled U turns.
Not that school run mums are substandard drivers, just unpredictable.
My car as developed a clicking noise on braking, just before stopping. Any ideas on cause before i let the dealer at it?

Hi Mike,
I have the same problem, see this thread

What did your dealer say?and did your problem get fixed?
Ian

You can specify a proper auto in the C3 and it makes the car a delight to drive, they seem quite powerful too, so maybe the box comes with larger petrol engined higher spec cars, don't recall seeing a diesel with the proper auto.
Rare though so may be difficult to buy used.
The small Suzuki auto's i've driven are nice too.
Apart from the Daihatsu's that Stu refers to there's not many proper auto's around in small cars.
Personal opinion only, i wouldn't have an automated manual whatever clever sounding name they may give them at any price, truly horrible to drive....though some like them.
