At around this time Volvo were making all sorts of Special editions of the 240, the spec was determined by availability from the parts bins, and by all accounts and there were stories of some odditiies. Volvo appear to apply the GLP label to the Penta boat engines (3.0) maybe somebody in the factory was having some Friday pm fun? Alternatively is the P just specifying Petrol GL vesrion?
I had an 1986 240 estate - 2316 cc badged as a GL and from memory a DL model existed. There were also 2100 cc engined versions with a valve safe version of the engine. The GLE was the injection version with leather trim and other extras.
For 2316cc The engines were coded as 230A 230B 230E I think depending on compression ratio? amongst other variations aimed at different emissions requirements of variuos countries.
