I am suffering problems with my 53 reg Ford Fiesta 1.25 Finesse, whereby the emissions light keeps coming on.
Initially the fault was diagnosed by the recovery service as requiring a new Cat, which has been installed, the garage also advised of requiring a new O2/Lamda sensor, which has also been installed. However, since the work was performed I have had reoccuring problems with the emissions light coming on.
I took the car back to the garage after having the recovery service diagnose P0420 O2 sensor (Bank 1). They fit a ford authentic part, but once again after 10+ miles the emissions light comes on again. The car seems to drive fine though, does anyone have any previous experience of a similar problem?
Thanks for your help! Read more
I have a 03 Megane II dci. When I turn the engine off and get out of the vehicle all my dash lights including the red alarm light stops working. When i enter the vehicle and close the door it normally beeps and shows the vehicle door open and asks for the card to be inserted but now it does nothing. Only after I start the car does the lights come on and the rev counter starts to work. My trip meter and radio is also reset and I have to enter my radio code everytime I start the car.
Is there another battery which powers the vehicle electronics when it is switched off as the main battery is okay but I get no power to the dash when the car is off. My alarm light does not flash either. I have checked all the fuses and the battery and they are fine. Any ideas anyone?
Thanks in advance

I'll take a look on the CD. The Help files are pretty useless. The main problem (for me) is that is uses words in an odd way e.g. "visible" seems to mean "visible" to certain operations, not "visible" on the map. If that, and a few other oddities were explained then I think I'd be away but as they're not I'm learning by trial and error. Mostly error!
Thanks,

Hi i recently had a sevice at Vauxhall and when i picked the car up the guy asked me if i ever had problems starting my 05 2.0 DTi SRi. I said no never. When i asked why he said as they had found oil in the fuel filter but as i had no problem it was ok.
He also then noted that there was a slight oil leak around the pipe to the turbo. i had noticed this but it was very slight and i had not noticed any performance issues or turbo problem. Again he said if there was no problem i should just try to see where it was leaking from as it was either a seal or the turbo could be on its way out ? Bit of a difference there then ! And i imagine turbo = expensive.
I am now worried as i am completely now car techie. I have noticed the leak now appears worse (coincidence ?) so am wondering where to go next. Any advice gratefully received.
Also (coincidence) since the service my car alarm keeps going off. This only happens at night, not every night. I park all day long at work and get not a peep from it. But the last couple of nights its been quite a few times, indeed i am writing this at stupid o clock because the alarm keeps going off. Again any advice would be great. I have read a thread on here ref alarm faults but the solution seems beyond me technically but does give me a place to start.

Just to let you know i have had the car looked at and on the diagnostics it came up that i had a fault in the rear quarterlight window. This has an alarm sensor in it. The solution is to either have a new window fitted or to disconnect the wiring and join it together to miss out the window sensor. According to the mechanic it is quite a common fault on Zafira A's.
thanks for all the replies i will post back to say if it solves the alarm problem.
cheers
After the unfortunate demise of MrMazda's 323f in a low speed crash, I followed the example of the chap mentioned in "car by car" for Kia Magentis and bought an ex dealer nearly 7000 mile one cheap as chips. Having done 15000 miles of my own, I want to follow HJ "running in" advice and change the Gearbox oil - is the drain plug on the left (as you look from the front) of the 2.0LS petrol engine? Do you just drain some gear oil and replace the same amount? Where do you put the new oil? Thanks in anticipation. By the way, I am up to 37.5 to the gallon and, touch wood, enjoying trouble free motoring. Read more
The heater was giving out hot even though the electronic switch was on cold.
I bought a second hand coolant valve unit, (The thing with four pipes connected to it with a solenoid fixed on the bulkhead), swapped them over and now its giving off cold air even when the switch is on hot. Presumably they are both faulty or could it be the heat adjuster switch? Read more
yes
although ive never had a problem as far as i know with the switch but have read they do go faulty
i weighed one in yesterday ,shame you could have had it
Hi
My 03 1.4 ford fusion 2 has seemed sluggish and speedometer has stopped working on few occasions over last few months. It all started after a minor accident where damage seemed cosmetic but was repaired by autobody repair company and we mentioned the speedometer to them when we dropped car to them for repair and the lad said he'd have look at it. Car has been driving well other than that over last month, she even passed her NCT on Mon last.
Car was driving fine this morning but when leaving work she was more sluggish then ever before and EAC fail displayed on dash. I continued to drive home but after a few miles and after turning off engine at traffic lights she started to drive as normal.
Anyone any ideas? Are the problems with speedometer linked to EAC fail.
Could the accident have caused the problem?
Could the NCT tests have knocked something out of place or could excessive revving have caused the problem today if not connected to problem with speedometer
If she continues to drive well should i bring her to Ford garage for diagnostic testing or is this something that a competent mechanic could sort out
Any advice would really be appreciated Read more
Hi Long time ago I know but did you find a solution .. have the same prob thanks
On the 80k service to a Z16XE engined vehicle I know a lot gets done.
I do not however have a service schedule book.
Can anyone give me a link or provide what is done please?
As the belts etc., are off being changed during this service, would changing the water pump (is there anything else that needs considering doing at the same time?) be worth the additional expense too? Read more
Ah yes, the theromostat!
I knew there was 'something else' in there!
Many thanks for the replies.
Cam belt was changed two years ago or 40k (yes it does a lot of miles a year).
As an aid to keep servicing costs down I went to Pentagon and took out a service plan with them. This plan covers all the servicing costs and for 3 years - plus a few other benefits.
What should someone considering trading in a 10yr plus car under the governments £2k back scheme do?
I'm tempted by a new Kia Rio. I've checked HJ's comments and wonder if anyone has more detail?
I'm looking for a small car. Criteria are outright cheapness (Measured over, say, 10 years) & simplicity.
Is the Diesel Rio better then the petrol?
What else should be considered and why? Read more
'Citroen' and 'Saxo'.
Funny that I was thinking that same thing earlier
Recently needed tyres on my 88 jetta which has always had Michelins. Prices were way up and I was told that tyres that size were only available from Michelin at premium price.
Went looking online and found some highly rated tyres at half the Michelin price,, Made in Poland,, No- they are round, not square and seem to perform as well as Michelin and show very little wear after 10K miles. Just be sure to read all the information and user comments before purchase. Read more

Sorry to be a newbie, but what is, "maf" and, "oe"?
I have got my car back with a new cat fit, I still have what appears to be a spitting/misfire sound coming from the exhaust. The engine runs smoothly in idle, and the car sounds fine, but when applying some revs I get what sounds like a popping or spitting sound when sat inside the car. When stationary in neutral, the sound is more of a spitting sound. The emissions light is not on at present, Ill give it a few more miles!
Is this common for a new cat, is there a breaking in period where it mkes these sounds at higher revs?
Thanks
