The heater was giving out hot even though the electronic switch was on cold.
I bought a second hand coolant valve unit, (The thing with four pipes connected to it with a solenoid fixed on the bulkhead), swapped them over and now its giving off cold air even when the switch is on hot. Presumably they are both faulty or could it be the heat adjuster switch? Read more
Hi
My 03 1.4 ford fusion 2 has seemed sluggish and speedometer has stopped working on few occasions over last few months. It all started after a minor accident where damage seemed cosmetic but was repaired by autobody repair company and we mentioned the speedometer to them when we dropped car to them for repair and the lad said he'd have look at it. Car has been driving well other than that over last month, she even passed her NCT on Mon last.
Car was driving fine this morning but when leaving work she was more sluggish then ever before and EAC fail displayed on dash. I continued to drive home but after a few miles and after turning off engine at traffic lights she started to drive as normal.
Anyone any ideas? Are the problems with speedometer linked to EAC fail.
Could the accident have caused the problem?
Could the NCT tests have knocked something out of place or could excessive revving have caused the problem today if not connected to problem with speedometer
If she continues to drive well should i bring her to Ford garage for diagnostic testing or is this something that a competent mechanic could sort out
Any advice would really be appreciated Read more
Hi Long time ago I know but did you find a solution .. have the same prob thanks
On the 80k service to a Z16XE engined vehicle I know a lot gets done.
I do not however have a service schedule book.
Can anyone give me a link or provide what is done please?
As the belts etc., are off being changed during this service, would changing the water pump (is there anything else that needs considering doing at the same time?) be worth the additional expense too? Read more
Ah yes, the theromostat!
I knew there was 'something else' in there!
Many thanks for the replies.
Cam belt was changed two years ago or 40k (yes it does a lot of miles a year).
As an aid to keep servicing costs down I went to Pentagon and took out a service plan with them. This plan covers all the servicing costs and for 3 years - plus a few other benefits.
What should someone considering trading in a 10yr plus car under the governments £2k back scheme do?
I'm tempted by a new Kia Rio. I've checked HJ's comments and wonder if anyone has more detail?
I'm looking for a small car. Criteria are outright cheapness (Measured over, say, 10 years) & simplicity.
Is the Diesel Rio better then the petrol?
What else should be considered and why? Read more
'Citroen' and 'Saxo'.
Funny that I was thinking that same thing earlier
Recently needed tyres on my 88 jetta which has always had Michelins. Prices were way up and I was told that tyres that size were only available from Michelin at premium price.
Went looking online and found some highly rated tyres at half the Michelin price,, Made in Poland,, No- they are round, not square and seem to perform as well as Michelin and show very little wear after 10K miles. Just be sure to read all the information and user comments before purchase. Read more

I drove down this just half an hour before, I remember being stuck in traffic behind a police van I just feel so lucky I set off when I did and if I didn't have a car there was a good chance I would have been on the bus which went over it :(
It is nice to see our raod tax goes on inspections to ensure roads don't just fall in. Read more
There are pictures of the hole in the road that Rattle mentioned on page 23 of today's Daily Mail. In the top left picture there is a blue Corsa. Is this your new car Rattle?

Time for a service again on the faithful Colt at my friendly independent. I'll usually go and buy the parts (what few it needs) from the main dealer.
Always like to check the prices before handing over the reddies so asked for the price on a Oil Filter for an 06 Colt 1.1 After a couple of minutes guy comes back and says £4.52 + VAT
Jaw dropped in amazement, how cheap is that, the best I could find on ebay was £13 for the same filter. Just goes to show that sometimes dealers are good value for cetain things, indeed 2 years ago the price was £5.59+Vat so its actually gone down.
Now Mitsubishi if you start selling the Colt CZ2 with the 1.1 engine and add some side airbags for about 7k I may just be back to buy a whole car next time :)
Off to go and by some oil from Halford now, thats cheaper than 2 years ago too! Read more

hope he is well
It was. I, too, hope he is well. I miss his contributions.
I've recently purchased a secondhand car on finance and the car has been plagued with fault since I bought it.
I've owned the car for four weeks now and I've only had use of it for six days as the rest of the time it's been in dealers being repaired. The car is covered by the manufacturers warranty so it's being repaired by one of their dealers.
I've read somewhere in the past that I can contact the finance company with regards the car and there is a way of returning it as it's faulty. I've contacted the finance company and they've told me that they'd send some paperwork through for me to read and tat was it, they didn't offer any more assistance.
Is it worth calling the finance company and telling them that I'll cancel my Direct Debits until the problems are sorted or is this a no-no? Read more
Goodluck, sounds like you're on the right track, keep us up to speed!
