Passenger side electric window has stopped working. Check fuse ok, drivers side works ok.
Stripped trim from door to expose motor. Disconnected motor put circuit tester into oneside of the electrical connector pressed the down button, tester says current there, did the same to the other connection it says current there when up button pressed. Removed motor, reconnected wiring press down button nothing happens, press the up button and the gear rotates. Thought it was motor, went to breakers yard, tried another motor before purchasing, this motor responded the same way!
Has anybody come across this. Read more

I now have a backing plate bought with replacement glass for the wing mirror. Does anyone have any tips as to the easiest way to attach the backing plate to the wing mirror.
Thanks

I would get a refund and then get the job done properly.
I went to my local friendly indie Ford specialist.
Bought the proper (heated ) door mirror.
They offered to fit it for £3 and before I had time to put my PIN in to pay for it , the new mirror was fitted.
I feel sure you can get a similar deal locally.
IIRC it was about £20 v £7 from Halfords.
Be honest - what MPG do you get over a tankful compared to the official figure. Mine:
Toyota T180
41 MPG (official 45.6 MPG)
Toyota RAV4 xTR 2.2d
40.2 MPG me 38 MPG mrs (official 42.8 MPG)
It has to be your combined average for day to day driving, not your best 1 off run.
I don't care that much about MPG but people are kicking up a stink on toyota boards and i've read a lot of reports that say new cars aren't getting anywhere near their official MPG figure.
Even though all official MPG figures are calculated on a flat rolling road at an ambient temp of a typical british summers day and the tests don't take into account hills, stopping / starting or various acceleration points i'm now curious to see if any cars get their combined figures or better them.

Looking at my running full tank averages for the past year 34-37 mpg.Combined figure for a 2l Hyundai SIII coupe is 35.3mpg. I rely on my odometer for the calculations so they could be a bit out.
hello all,
Iv been looking at the 2.0 mk1 focus's online and have got a bit confused about the spec of the car. Is there much difference between the ghia spec and the zetec spec 2.0 16v focus??
Thanks

The Ghia has more toys (which cost if they go wrong) than the Zetec, whereas the Zetec has a firmer suspension setup which helps the handling.
It's more of a choice between the suspension setup rather than the option lists, if you want a more comfortable ride then the Ghia is better but if you want sharper handling and a slightly firmer ride then the Zetec is the better choice.
i have just got a 05 focus estate and want ti wire the tow hitch up,
Do I need a relay?
Or can i wire it up like the older cars iv had?

As this can apply to any car as is quite general I thought it is best in discussion rather than technical.
On Tuesday or Monday I had two new rear tyres fitted.
On Wednesday I got cought out by a horrible and probably ilegal speed hump, I went over it at 15mph and it felt really too fast. It is on a private estate and it was put in place by the resisents commitee many years ago.
On saturday I went to my grandmas and washed under my wheel arches with a high preasure hose pipe. When I got it home I started to T-CUT a scratch and as I was doing it heared a large explosion, some passers by thought it was from my car. I checked the tyres and they were all fine, I also checked underneath and nothing obvious.
I drove my car for the first time since the incident and there is now a horrible squeeky sort of knock from the back of my car, it sounds like something is loose and I am pretty sure it is connected to the explosion, the only thing I can think is it was a coil decompressing. The lower coils look ok but they are hiden so can't really tell. The coils feel tight and not loose and the lower arms look ok. There is no signs of a shock leaking.
Any other ideas? The coils are original and have 80k and 9.5 years old so they are probably due for the replacement.
I don't know if the explosion noise was from my car but it seems highly likely it is connected :(.
I am thinking that the the tyre people may have caused some fatique on a worn spring, then I went over that bump causing further damage then I washed it all with cold water possibly causing further damage until the thing decompresed.
PS I am not worried in normal rattle style, I have a very big job on atm so I can afford to get this fixed ;).

In a pan of boiling water, dangling by a piece of string on a pencil over a stove, the stat should start to open as the water gets to boiling point.
You say the temp gauge never moves - does it not move at all or does it get so far when you turn the ignition on and then just stop there? It might be worth replacing this just in case you're not getting a correct reading.
Don't forget also that it will take longer for the stat to open the first time after you've drained the system.
Friend has come to start his 525 Diesel, which has been standing for several months and the battery is flat. It is parked 'nose in' a very confined space and the key linkage on the boot appears to be non mechanical (ie boot lid will not release on key action ). Jump leads are not long enough to reach positive terminal under the bonnet at front of car. PS Battery is in boot.
Questions
1 is he correct in assumption that key operated boot release is electric?
2 can you charge the battery (slowly!) with a cigarette lighter charger? ie is socket always on? or do you need ignition to be in aux (or similar) position?
3 I have warned him about jump starting modern generation cars ( he is old school), any special advice on this model?
