The instrument panel lights on my 95 Audi 80 has packed in. I've replaced all the bulbs behind the panel and checked the fuses without success. Any ideas? Read more
We had a debate in my office today about the % of people who just accept the first figures that a salesperson gives them-and buys the car without haggling. I thought everyone haggles ( I do) but surprisingly others said they would be too embarassed to "challenge" the figures.
I would appreciate knowing this % from anyone related to sales.
Thank you.

I'll stick to buying mine from auctions, only take sa few minutes to work out if I've bought the car at the price I want to pay.
I followed a lovely Rove P5 this morning and It got me thinking - which car built in the 90's do you think will become a sought after classic?

As for the Ford Ka...should have called it the Ka Ka ;-)
This has happened enough times to make me realise its not me. The car drives perfectly and got the pinking issue sorted by changing gear a bit later (this was down to me not used to 16vs). However a couple of times I have stalled it at junctions when the lights have changed to green, other times the car will just suddenly loose power and will have to put the throttle down heavier and its all fine again. The clutch seems fine.
There is no ECU warning light on and I have checked the clutch cable which seems to be ok. I am now thinking it might be a fault witht the throttle cable? I adjusted this when I first got it as there seemed far too much play in it but I put it back after recieiving some advice that I may make it worse.
I am guessing that the reason I have stalled is the throttle cable got stuck so there was not enough power, and the reason for the sudden loss of power is again the cable.
The only other issue is that the fuel cap is a cheap "Metro" one as I accidently lost the original, how likely is this to be the cause?
Apart from this there is anything else I can check? I want to see what I can do without spending money before messing about with MAF sensors etc. It was serviced 230 miles ago with new plugs, air filter, oil etc.
Also this does only happen occasionaly 9/10 journeys my car runs perfectly. but I am worried it is a sign that something is not right. It was also very wet and damp this morning so I wonder if this was a contributing factor? My engine sounded a bit noiser this morning. Read more
You saying it could be the MAF? I have read a lot of people replacing the MAF to try and fix the problem I have only to found it has made it worse, do you have any experience with none Bosch ones? The original Bosch ones seem very expensive.
The only memory I have of the 1.0 I used to learn is it had no torque at all and was stupidly easy to stall.
car started ok pulled of a clunk came from the engin then nothing a friend told me sounds like timing belt . it looks ok , he said teath could be worn , when turning engin belt is jumpin a bit. is it worth chaing belt , or will the engin be to damaged .. Thank you Read more

I am a driving instructor looking to buy a new car, I currently have an 05 plate 1.3CDTI corsa with 84K on the clock, really quite a reliable motor (touch wood LOL) Just wondered if anyone had any experience with other cars? Have looked into the new Hyundi i10, and auctions etc....any suggestions would be great.
Cheers
Matt.

Same again or a new Fiat Panda with the same engine? Great deals at the moment. On a Skoda enthusiast site, there's someone doing the same as you with a Fabia vRS and he/she rates it very highly. Most new car warranties don't apply if you use the car for hire or teaching but I believe Hyundai don't for teaching.
I am looking to buy either a Honda Shuttle or a Ford Galaxy with a budget of £2k.
Would appreciate if owners of the above MPV can shed any light on the pros and cons of these two cars. I am going more in the favour of the reliability of the Honda but wary of the fuel consumption ie 2.3 Auto engine, as will be used for the typical school runs etc.
Comment much appreciated. Read more
We ran a 1997 Galaxy for about five years. With a family of three kids and a dog, and regular visits to/from Grandparents I considered it be pretty much the perfect car (from a purely practical point of view!). The only trouble I can recall was the wiper linkage mentioned earlier and a problem with a relay (well documented on Gal owners website). Petrol consumption not good (again same experience as previous posters); seats heavy to move in/out of car but lots of flexibilty with them; bags and bags of space. We changed it a couple of years ago for a newer C8 and been disappointed ever since (the sliding doors on the C8 are the only plus).
I've never driven a Shutttle. I am sure they are fine but my only reservation with them is that they all appear to have bench seats in mid and rear rows which would not appeal to me.
Can anyone tell me where the Glow Plug Relay is located on a 306 2.0 HDi (1999)? My timing relay is knackered and the glow plugs are permanently on. I have the replacement relay, just can't find where it goes! Read more
I found mine under the battery. It was held there with cable ties. Can't guarantee yours is there.

"Does this extra pipe over the top of the engine of a 110 mean that the 90 is not fitted with an intercooler? "
Yes. One of the reasons that a chipped 90, whilst it might be 110, is not a 110. IYSWIM!

Iirc, when I had a '93 80, I overfilled the glovebox which bent the switch for the glovebox light, causing the fuse (shared by the dash lights) to blow...
