please help me
my k11 had a small misfire under small amounts of load and also didnt idle great, however also increased idle speed when revs brought down for a couple of secs and went normal?
i noticed that the air flow meters on the tb were often faulty and started with the soldering trick and its not worked in fact its now very much worse!! ive desided to work along the lines that its because of someting ive done first. does the plate that covers the sensor need to be totally air tight as not to allow ne to bepass the meter cos i couldnt be sure it was when replaced but didnt make ne differnce when engine run with plate off completely?
my friend did the soldering cos i cant see the contacts well enough could they be dameged now cos my friend was not finding it easy to melt the solder?
they are the two only things that i think could of gone wrong cos was very little striping, plugs, air hose and air box mounted correctly. there was a smell of unburned fuel and looked down the top of the tb and looked very wet now missfire very badly under ne load sum times dies and idle is a mess. am thinking if plate doesnt need to be air tight tb gonna,

Experienced some odd cruise control earlier.
Cruise on
speed set
turn on heated windscreen - speed increases 5mph
press speed decrease, wait few seconds, speed increases all on it's own accord until i press resume button to turn system off!!
It was accelerating all by itself to 90mph and beyond when I intervened.
Anyone had a similar experience or any idea's about what's going on?
I'll try take it to Ford but either they won't be able to replicate the problem or they will try charge me ££££ to fix something they should be very concerned about and fix for free. Read more
I am thinking of upgrading the wheels of my car from 15'' pressed steel to 16'' alloys (manufacturers genuine parts).
Can I expect any improvements in terms of ride and handling? I know they will lower the unsprung mass of the car and the wider tyres should offer more grip but will the differences be noticeable in normal conditions? Read more
Almost worth it for gloat value.....
Don't Humph you are tempting a mischievous one, mrs gb put a nice 2" scrape on the nsf wheel of the old MB and i teased her for ages, even moving the car when parked at home to bring the scrape to the top for maximum visibility.....horrid chap i know.
Several months later we are out in the estate car, me the professional..yeah right...at the wheel and i manage to scrape the entire circumference of the front wheel...on my own side for goodness sake....she just laughed her silly head off.
Can anyone tell me the procedure for bleeding a BMW diesel ?
Any time the car runs into reserve it is almost impossible to restart.
When looking at the supply pipe the the diesel can be seen running
In "globs " for want of a better word.
If I do manage to restart the car it drives perfect.
I have tries opening one of the injectors but this does not seem to cure the problem.
Excuse caps.
Well you go me ! My puritan software nearly edited your subject line - I cannot argue with that though Read more
There will be a bleed bulb somewhere either on the pump or filter.
I have some professional track record in the media as an unknown freelance, having done news and foreign reporting, a column and a certain amount of comment of various sorts in obscure and sometimes better-known papers and on radio. No TV because cameras and lights make me perspire which is a no-no. People like me who want to do TV these days probably inject themselves with that wrinkle-removing poison stuff, bolox or something, which prevents perspiration.
Virtually all the Western media seem to me to have lost the plot. This perpetual howling clamour about the economic crisis is something quite new in my experience. The media used to say we were going to get a recession or had got one, and why. Now they want to tell us how awful it is going to be, how we ought to feel about it and why we are going to feel like that. In fact they do this in a way that is insistent enough to make me (anyway) doubt most of what they say. Even respectable papers and TV do and say things I would never have done or said, and wouldn't do or say now. Have the media gone the same way as the banking industry and the political classes, i.e. so far downmarket that one wonders what use the carphounds are?
I think so. And it's dangerous, because the media influence the way people think, as well as being boring and depressing. Read more
There is much doom & gloom about house prices and for some unfortunates, it IS a disaster.
For many, however, it is not. Those of us with small, or no mortgages are in a different position altogether.
If you wishes to move house, it matters not for how much you can sell your house: just like the well known car trade formula, what counts is difference to change.
The real problem is finding a buyer for one's OWN house - at any price!
Raised on another thread but I didn't want to hijack it but I have never understood why leather seats are regarded as luxury.
Boiling hot in summer freezing cold in winter unless you have the heated option in which case they smell. Easily damaged and hard to repair. Impossible to invisibly repair. Give me a good cloth seat any day.
Is it just me? Read more
In a British or Italian car, yes. In anything else, I wouldn't be too fussed.
There's a certain softness and aroma to British and Italian leather interiors that seems to elude other countries' manufacturers IMHO.
The soft, supple Momo leather in my friend's old Alfa 156 was as far removed from the shiny, slippery PVC-a-like stuff in my in-law's mk4 Golf as it was possible to get.

My mechanic has told me the two front springs are ok now but will probably need replacing for the MOT in May. I am thinking it might be a good idea to do get this done before the MOT.
Now the bushes are a common fault on these Fiestas and the easiest way to fix that is to replace the wishbones, and then the shock absorbers won't last for ever. So would it be a better idea to get two new front wishbones, two new springs and two new shock absorbers or is there no advantage of doing this in terms of labour?
Also how big a job is replacing the front springs in terms of mechanic labour time? Read more
When it`s MOT time, I would also give your local Council a ring. Where I live the Council Transport Department do MOT`s - with the obvious benefit of removing the link between assessment and repair.
Hi,
This is probably a long shot but thought it was worth asking about.
Last night I witnessed an RTA (I was following a car that went across a junction, ignoring the Give Way sign, and crashed into a car going the other way).
I stopped, and called the police to report the accident - I gave a statement and then left the scene.
Unfortunately, by stopping where I did I crossed some of the debris and now have a tyre that needs replacing. If I'd just carried on the way I'd been going I'd have been fine.
Is there any way I can claim the cost of a replacement tyre from the insurance of the person who was at fault on the RTA, or do I just chalk this one up to bad luck? Read more
"I'll give the insurance route a go - if it doesn't work out then I'm no worse off than if I didn't try!"
Only downside to that is when you look for renewal quotes next time. You can't answer no to the 'have you made any claims in the last x years' question. Answering yes could make more of a difference to the premium than the price of a tyre.
My dashboard display (Golf MkV 1.9tdi SE) is currently showing the outdoor temperature as -25c and has done for the past few weeks (I live in Yorkshire not the artic) therefore the sensor is obviously playing up. Does anyone know where I can locate the sensor to check it or is this a job for a garage (any idea how much it will cost to repair/replace?)
Thanks in advance for any advice.

PEUGEOT 106. 2000 PLATE. 78,000 MILES.
Please could somebody help me - my car is driving me mad! Over the last couple of weeks (since it has started to get cold) I have experienced problems starting my car in the mornings. Some days it is fine but on other days it turns over but conks out almost immediatly. Once started again it sounds as though it is going to conk out again at any point, the gear stick also starts shaking, I then have to leave it running for 5-10 minutes. When I pull away the car begins to lose power and only what I can describe as "bunny hops" down the road! I have to dip the clutch to stop it cutting out. Once I have been driving for 5-10 minutes the problem seems to sort itself out and is fine for the rest of the day. I took the car to a garage who told me I needed a new stepper motor (even though a new stepper motor had been fitted less than 20,000 miles ago), this was fitted but the next day I had the same problem. They then said that I needed a new temp sensor. Since both items have been fitted the car is not as bad, it has not conked out but still does not like starting in the morning, and still sounds as though it is going to cut out. When I pull away the rev counter goes haywire and it sounds as though I am accelerating too much (but im not). I really dont know what to do - I dont want to take it back to the garage before getting some advice as they dont seem to know what is wrong with it, I cannot afford for them to keep "trying things" as its proving very expensive. Has anyone experienced the same problems? Read more
many thanks for the help just to keep you posted i first tryed to seal the plate better and found that the plate was on the wrong way around think it was my fault and thought this was why air was getting in however air tight seal didnt improve at all and would say the plate being the wrong way around short circuit some of the points on the circuit board! tryed a £30 scrapiee and had to reuse one of the senors as was nicked and has worked. did give my head a nasty bang pulling off a vacum pipe lol. think all that over fueling have washed out the plugs cos there is a few flat spots and not ngks which i think are the best plugs, worth doing if been misfiring for a while?
must say i think this website is great and thanks to anyone who helps anyone defo if u been working on cars all day!!
