Hi, does anyone know whether insurance checks are made if you name someone else as driving the vehicle at the time of offence? Any info would be much appreciated, thanks! Read more

It would appear that many in the scamera partnerships take it personally, and would go to the ends of the earth in catching people out in lies.

And if they're anything like the ones on SWMBO's Zaafira or my lovely green vectra the 'feel' of the plug as you tighten it back up is horrible, it feels like you're going to strip the thread when it's only half way in, then loosens off again.

On some TV programme this morning (which I was watching on the exercise bike at the gym, since you ask) was the head of communications from Nissan UK called, iirc, Gabi Whitfield.

Faced with a number of problems on a Navarra she apologised, said one of the dealers involved would be contacted because of their poor service, arranged for the vehicle to be collected by Nissan and fixed, and offered a free service and a year's extension on the warranty.

Pretty impressive but a bit of a shame the BBC has to get involved before things get put right on what didn't sound like overwhelming problems, as it happens.

Anyway. Gabi Whitfield is the name to remember Nissan owners. Read more

[And yes; it is amazing how ignored customers suddenly get the 5-star service when a BBC microphone is pushed into the big boss's face.]

Daughter has a 2GB Tevion mp3 player that she uses. She downloads music to it from Musicmatch. However Musicmatch is saying that it cant add any more songs to it as "the number of tracks at this location is at the maximum". There are 247 tracks on it, using 881.13MB.
There is obviously over 1 GB left to use but can't seem to do so.

Under "My Computer" it appears as a "Removable Disk". I have tried just copying and pasting to it but this isn't allowing it either.

Any ideas? Read more

So far Comodo has impressed - it's not intrusive, but when the warning panel appears it's for a good reason and carries useful details to facilitate decisions whether to give, or not give, permission to proceed.

Forum Road Works

I was in London yesterday and there were a number of delays, both minor and major, due to roadworks. The majority of these were due to the ongoing water mains replacement project. On walking past these I noticed that in many case the excavations revealed other utilities in poor condition. Surely if the road is being dug up it would be sensible to attend to all utilities that need attention? Or is it again a case of targets rather than common sense setting priorities? Read more

lift the lids replace the service put lid back. How sensible.

Yes. If only those Victorian bricklayers had had a proper understanding of the need for convenient telephone, cable, electricity, gas and water conduits for the quadruple-size London of the future when they were messing around building a couple of sewers in the West End... Bunch of idiots. No imagination. Typically British.

Hi,

I have a 2000 Honda Accord with approx 116K on the clock. Over the last 6 months or so I have been bothered by a rhythmic knocking sound that seems to occur when I'm accelerating from 45mph in 4th or 5th gear under certain circumstances. The frequency of the knocking increases as road speed increases. The problem I have is it only seems to occur under certain circumstances. The conditions I have managed to isolate so far are only that it seems at its worst on windy country roads where the gradient varies and where there the road surface is slightly undulating. I can never get this problem to show itself to the garage mechanic who has driven it around on fairly flat roads only (he'd have to go quite far out of his way to get to where the problem always shows up).
At the last MOT (6 months ago), the car had to have a CV boot replaced, but apparently an outer CV joint was OK. I am worried that I am now driving with a very slightly worn CV joint and this is causing the problem. I'm about to go to the honda main dealer to see if they can help, but I'm not very hopeful. I'm so frustrated with this problem that I am now thinking of just trying to changes various parts until the problem goes away - starting with the CV joint that had its boot replaced. The last mechanic I spoke to about it and who drove the car said that it was definitely something in the drivetrain because the engine is absolutely fine.

Has anyone got any ideas - anywhere I can start looking?

Thanks Read more

In that case; the first - and most important - check is that one of the tyres isn't delaminating internally.

Get a competent tyre specialist to remove the wheel and spin it on the balancer to see if it goes out-of-round at speed.

A chipped wheel bearing track is another possibility; but that will normally develop very slowly.

...and 2 lots of markings, one each side of the camera, yes? If so, it's the same as on the A24 about half a mile south of the Buck Barn A272 junction. This was reported in the local press as being a trial installation new type of camera, apparently called Robot.

TBH I don't have much a problem with it; it is just before the junction with the B2135 which is pretty dicey in terms of lines of sight etc, and has greatly increased compliance with the eminently sensible 60 limit on this stretch, which before was almost universally ignored.

Hi there,

I'm thinking about buying a BMW 320d, however, I have heard some horror stories about turbo failures. Some people on the internet seem to think this problem was resolved sometime in 2003 but I'm not sure where they get their info from.

Does anyone anything about this issue and what do people think generally about the mechanical reliability of a 54 plate 320d (previous shape)?

Though not directly related to the leading thread. How much on average is needed to repair the engine if there is a turbo failure for those that do not have any sort of warranty?
