Manufacturer: Vauxhall.
Model: Astra.
Type: Estate.
Fuel: Dual fuel - LPG/Petrol.
Trim: Elegance.
Engine: 1600cc.
Mileage: 52k.
***This only happens when running on LPG***
If I am slowing the vehicle down using just the the gears, as in approaching, roundabouts, give ways junctions or similar, when I lift the clutch to change gear (either up or down the box) the revs drop off almost instantly once the engine rpm is around 1.500 rpm (tickover is roughly 900rpm) and the engine simply cuts out.
Almost as if fuel is not getting through?
Running on petrol is (now since EGR was replaced last week) 100% ok though.
Any pointers please?
It is going back to the dealership I procured this from for them to look at as my local Vauxhall is not LPG authorised.
Would be beneficial to me if I had some idea what they are going to be doing.

The lpg mixture needs to be richer - this is a common problem. There is a knob on the vapouriser that will do this, right to lean and left to richen. The vapourisers last for years.
One of my Christmas presents was a bumper book of articles from the L&L magazine, which readers of a certain age will remember.
Laughed like a drain at the above article near the back of the book.
Describing the transport of the city of the future says:-
"here is the terminus for passenger-bus-trains, individual passenger vehicles and VTOL aircraft. From here too, incoming motorists are directed by radio to areas where parking is available ." Now for the funny bit "A control system regulates all incoming traffic reducing congestion to a minimum"

There's a good review of the turbine powered Chrysler Turbine in the Jan '08 edition of Classic & Sports Car magazine.
It idled at 22,000rpm with max rpm over twice that. It produced 130bhp and 425lb ft of torque at stall speed.

I find it quite annoying that most manufacturers don't offer driver's seat height adjustment on entry level models!
That means people taller/shorter than average people will have to spend more to get an upper spec which offers this facility.
Why there is not any law to offer these facilities as a standard on all models?

I think there should be a law that says every car should have a chrome-plated crust man catching nets like those Chinese 4x4s. Seriously, there is enough diversity in the market already to get a car with a seat that suits you. It's not the government's job to interfere in this.
i recollect that some years ago when speed bumps were introduced en masse that a particular make of car wasn't able to negotiate speed bumps and therefore registered keepers were compensated by local authorities for this predicament, i cant think what the car was but it had a very low ride height and extremely long wheelbase , with corrugated type panelling and usually green in colour and no roof if i recall ... does any one know what car im trying to define ... thanks..mj
there was no easy way to edit the replies on this so the lot have gone, can we try to answer without the sarcasm perceived by the OP in his previous attempt to get a reply ! Read more

Kugelwagen? No problem with the ride height. Milky did you dream this up? :-)
no... tho it may of only made a local news story , must be 20 or so years ago , the vehicle in question i guess would have been built in the late 60/ early 70 i think, it reminds me of the cars they had in the " prisoner" but obviously not brightly painted
Hi,
I really hope someone can help with this as I am tearing my hair out
trying to find someone to ask!
I have a 1999 Isuzu NQR 7.5 ton lorry fitted with a horsebox body,
used for private transport of our horses and taxed as private HGV.
To prevent the batteries going flat when not in use we have an
isolator fitted. When the isolator is screwed in (to make the
connection) the speedo needle on the tachograph slowly goes from 0
round to maximum and stays there. If the front of the tacho is
opened the needle drops back to zero but will then not read
anything. It is as if the drive head stays at maximum even though the needle springs back to zero when the front is opened. The odometer part of the tacho works fine. I presume this is some kind of start up sequence but don't know how to reset
it so that it works. The tachograph worked perfectly until the battery was disconnected to fit the isolator. Although we don't need to use the tacho as it
is a private lorry this is our only speedometer.
The tacho is an analogue Veeder Root model (I think model number e10) with switches for 2 drivers but I can't find anyone who knows about them.
If there are any lorry drivers out there who remember the "old-style" tachos and know what the answer is then please let me know!
Many thanks and here's hoping...

We had a problem with the batteries going flat (the lorry doesn't get used that much) and the perceived wisdom at the yard was that it was the tacho that was draining the batteries. With the ignition off it still whirrs away turning the disc round and if left for two or three weeks seemed to be enough to drain the batteries enough that it wouldn't start. The isolator is a "discarnect" connected between the neg terminal and the earth strap to the body and has certainly stopped the batteries draining, albeit with the side effect I described.
The clock on the tacho goes round when the isolator is connected but obviously stops when the isolator is unscrewed.
There is a small push button on the front of the unit between the 2 drivers switches but have tried pushing this in case it was a reset button but no joy.
If you connect the isolator when the front of the tacho is open the needle obviously doesn't move but the needle drive inside the tacho still goes from zero to max and stays there.
Have bought a ( 4th ) car , a ' classic ' 1995 Mini Cooper . Any tips on which owner's association to join ( am in London ) and which insurers to use ? Read more
excellent advice which I will look into - exactly the point of this forum. Thanks
Sucumbing to a long desired dream to own a 'classic'W124 estate I recently bought a beautiful J reg 230TE. It has been a joy to drive and a nice change from the 21st century euroboxes. However it has recently started to stutter and eventually stop altogether once it has reached normal operating temperature. Notwithstanding the problem of breaking down on the road it will not start again until cold! I have checked plugs etc - power still coming and fuel pump seems to be working. Any idea what the problem might be and how I could fix it? Cheers and Happy New Year! Read more
for some reason the TE estate model has second pump attached to back axle in a rubberised insulation/casing assy.May be due to design/space under rear floor?

I have two friends who run cars (like me) privately on a shoestring. One is a P reg A4 Avant 110TDi, the other an R reg Golf estate tdi, both with miles well in excess of 100k.They have both proved very reliable and cheap to run for several years, with no major problems.
My point is that neither of my friends went out looking for these specific cars. They were bought solely 'on condition' from private vendors, much like my S reg Mazda 626 SE with 96k on the clock but sub £1k to purchase. Look for well presented private ads...good grammar, several clear photos, from a private seller on Autotrader with a FSH and receipts, then fingers crossed you should get a good un.Keep an open mind on what you are looking for, provided it fits your requirements size wise. Do not make the mistake of putting too much emphasis on mpg unless you are doing in excess of 15k miles pa.
