Any idea what % increase I can expect on 2.0TDI. Clean licence, 5 years no-claims and I'm an old git?

My car knowledge inept son believed the only thing you had to put into an engine was petrol, Therefore the lack of any form of lubricant (and coolant) has resulted in crank damage..
It is currently a 1.4 Zetec-S, a breakers locally has the 1.25 version. My question, would you know if the 1.25 will drop straight in? Would the 1.4 gearbox/ecu etc be suitable?
Many thanks,
Stuart. Read more

Last night I caught four youths in my garage trying to steal my two motorbikes.
One ran straight away, but I managed to keep the other three in there until for about two minutes until one of them got a bit threatening with a length of 2" steam pipe, so I let them go. The police arrived about 5 minutes later.
The question I want to ask those "in the know" so to speak, is will the insurance company shell-out for a complete lock-set for both bikes? I know its stupid, but I had a key for each bike "hidden" in the garage and these yobs have found these and ran off with them, (even so they still damaged the ignition/steering lock on one bike).
In fact, only one bike has sustained damage to the ignition switch/steering lock, but the tank cap is the same key. The second bike has an ignition switch, tank cap and a tool box all serviced with the same key and they stole the key for this bike too.
I'm mindful that if I make a claim I will only be paid-out for the damaged switch and so it will not be worth-it, but the cost of replacing all the key operated devices will be considerably more.

As a veterinary surgeon, I have a lot of unused equipment around the place. My wife is always saying that if she caught anyone breaking in she would make use of my horse emasculators and hang the consequences. I don't think she is joking. These things are clamped across the testicles and crush and sever them at the same time.
I don't know whether I wil be able to intervene in time.
Be afraid, be very afraid.

I have a 2006 Focus Estate with self levelling suspension as a company car. It has done just 16500 miles but is already on its third set of rear tyres. After the first set were replaced a complete four wheel realignment was done after the supplying dealer admitted that they may have failed to do this correctly after fitting the suspension (they fitted it because it was a mis build at the factory). At this point the car also handled a little erratically and the realignment corrected this. However 9000 miles on the rears were down to the legal limit again and have just been replaced (along with the fronts).
It is now about to go back to be looked at again - does anybody have any suggestions or comments on what might be the root cause. I have never known tyre wear like it. Read more
>>Interestingly Dagenham Motors said that they had "seen unusual rear tyre wear on Mondeos before but never on a Focus".
My 98 Mondeo had the rear set corrected when laser checked.
My sons Focus had rear suspension damage ( suggested reversing into a kerb)
I had it checked out and it needed adjusting after the suspension was fixed.
My Indie said this rear suspension damage was fairly common on Mondeos and Focus.
Stepson's 90K mile 1.6 petrol Megane sounds as if it is running on only 2 cylinders, which seems likely to be due to a dodgy coil pack. (He drove it downhill to our house, not surprisingly it won't drive back up the hill to the local indie's garage)
Are these a dealer only item and is a new coilpack a straightforward fix? ( i.e no need to reset ECU? )

Inj Doc --- Many thanks for that tip, it is twin packs, so I will check leads/plugs too!
Hi
Asking on behalf of a mate.He has an 02 Passat TDI (110) with approx 70k on the clock. In the last couple of weeks he has noticed/felt a vibration at lower speeds/revs.Sitting at idle and revving produces a strong vibration in the engine and a 'knocking' sound.Although the car seems to be ok at higher speeds,he has became obessessed with the noise.Any ideas on what it could be? Timing belt was done at the correct interval

Thanks. That's what a mechanic had 'guessed' but this site has always been great for getting inputs into problems. The more opinions help to minimise the guesswork!!!
I know this one has been touched on in at least one other thread on the current page as I type this, but I thought Back Roomers might like to be aware of the current plan.
"Transaction2007 have decided to release the date and time of protest action earlier than scheduled. This is to enable the motorist and public to better prepare themselves for the coming action. This will be a nationwide protest extending to Northern and Southern Ireland.
A date of Saturday 15th December 2007 at 10:00am has been decided for protest action. This date was decided by members as the best possible to enable those who would normally be working during the week to attend. This action will be initiated at a refinery or storage depot somewhere near you. Anyone wishing to support action is requested to make your way there at the alotted time. Transaction again wish to emphasise the importance of legal protesting."

Not a forum member so can't log in, and to be truthful I can't be bothered; I'll take your word for it, thought it was a bit muted!
Mind you from what I DID see it looks like a bit of a one man band, who won't accept any offer of help ie sems to like being in control.
Seen this before, you'd think they'd learn from previous.
I have had my Mazda6 2.0 diesel since late October. This week I let the fuel run lower than usual before re-filling (waiting for my fuel card but that's another story)...
... so it had got down to below a quarter of a tank with the "miles remaining" readout heading to single digits. All fine but the fuel warning light had not come on. Decided to see how low it really got and fitted almost 54 litres in. The tank is meant to be 64 litres so I had just over 10 litres left...
Does this sound right? Miles remaining basically saying the car was very nearly empty but the fuel warning light had not come on. And if I had 10 litres left I could have gone a lot further... like maybe 100 miles! Which would have meant well over 500 miles from a tankful with a fair bit of round time driving too...
I'm wondering what the "miles remaining" reading would have done now when it reached zero. At least I know the fuel gauge is more accurate than the pessimistic digital readout. Didn't want to risk it this time first time not knowing which was lying.
Anyone else seen Mazda's fuel gauges and estimated miles remaining behave like this?
Cheers
Rob

I only work out mpg by brimming the tank - the readouts are nowhere near accurate. They usually are optimistic. But today the miles remaining was saying 6 with 10 litres left... I would not trust this for sure and with this being a new car I did take it's word in case the fuel gauge and missing warning light were the problem.

Sorry - your postings were shifted about a bit whilst IHAQ 213 was being built in the shed outside. JBJ's response to Cheddar's camera question has now been tacked onto the thread within 212 and therefore runs logically. I hid the Bank Branch question under the stairs for a while and then took it out, dusted it off and put it into Vol 213 once the paint had dried on it. It all took some time 'cos I lost the glue pot - your posts weren't deleted or changed in anyway just stuck to my fingers for a while !
bostin's reply to the planning question in 212 has now been successfully migrated into proper sequence.
