hi
looking to buy a car for my wife who has leg trouble getting in and out of our current car Toyota Carina E.
getting into the car is a problem currently as is a little too high but we find that getting out again is hard if the car is too low down !!
someone suggested a Scenic - any thoughts?
so any ideas on the ideal height car - my budget is £1500 - £2000.
cheers all

It's not just Feelers that do this. The humble Skoda felicia has a one piece thermostat and housing cost £25, but easier to fit!
It is all in the pursuit of low carbon emissions, I think.

astra sxi 56 reg, just had it's first service in nov 9,500mls was told wheel alignment was out.
seen as the weather is getting colder and snow is on the way i thought best have good tread on the front,
checked fronts at 4mm rears at 7mm so swapped about, these wheel's were not removed in the service! i had to whack one off with my rubber mallet & cleaned up hubs with wire brush and a coat of copperslip to make this much easier if i get a puncture,
i think it's a bit poor that a main dealer does not remove wheels and clean the hubs as a precaution as they know alloy wheels corrode on the hubs, just wondered how many of you folk with cars of 1 yr-2 yrs that have not removed those wheels yet? maybe best get them done before you get a flat in a snow drift!!
tracking done pressure checked car drives spot on.. Read more
Well what can i say i must have only seen mine do it in the last 20yrs of been in the motor trade!
It's common for alloys that don't come off often, my point was this car is newish a small amount when fitted would have been a good idea!

Hang on. The facts don't fit in with received wisdom that we're hard done by. That'll never do!
Six months after complaining about poor quality work during a main dealer sevice I noticed my coolant bottle cap leaking. During rework (unrelated to cooling system) the cap was greased, slowly wrecking the rubber seals. Weekly fluid level checks probably saved a breakdown. Replaced FOC by the service manager but now definatly lost a customer. Read more
Old Navy,
You may have got the apprentice. Had trouble getting the cap off and greased it to make it easier next time. ;)
I am in the Baltics at the moment and I just saw a crazy bit of driving this morning. Whilst on a medium sized roundabout in town a taxi driver stopped, and reversed 10 meters back to take the exit he had just passed.
I have no idea why he didn't simply carry on round! There was nothing in front of him. It would have probably taken less time as he had to wait for a couple of cars to exit behind him (including me) before he could back up.
This took place during light morning traffic and the roundabout was a brand new, ordinary 4-exit one about 100 meters across. I can only guess he was not used to this new roundabout since it was new and there simply aren't that many over here.

Kiwi - reminds me of taking a bus from Jakarta towards Krakatau and having 7 crashes in a 4.5 hour ride. Also seem to recall that at intersections, if you were going straigh on you use your hazard lights (which is fine for traffic in front and behind but I suspect not so good for traffic on your sides!!)
I was waiting at traffic lights on London's North Circular ( NCR ) at the end of August in broad dry daylight when a car smacked into my off - side . I came out, remarkably calm, to be confronted by a the driver in a Y reg British reg Audi . She started screaming that it was my fault , then crying hysterically. The 2 blokes in the back seat were actually civilised and embarrassed . One claimed to be her boyfriend , though he looked like her son .
Fortunately, she was insured with a well known UK company and secondly, I was equipped with 2 cameras , a digital and my phone's 5 megapixel . My shots are very clear, showing her car embedded at an angle of about 45 degrees into my side from behind . I called the driver a couple of days later , and was surprised she still maintained it was my fault . One picture refutes everything she says - she simply miscalculated a lane - changing manouvre.
Now , my own company ( I was fully comp ) are being dumb and useless , transferring me across offices just when one clerk was familiar with my case and told me on the blower they had a good laugh when they received my pictures - as tight a case as he's seen .
Finally, my vehicle is a 1.95 metre high ( 6 ' 5" ) US Pick up truck that's 20 ft long, her Audi was about 60% of the height and length . I've already told my insurers that : a) I will not claim on my own policy ( about £1500 of damage , though still driveable ) and b ) I will go to court if necessary . My insurers are pfaffing about, not finding the file, not calling back, not interested .
How can I expedite this - the rust is already settling !

You may keep your NCD but your premium will rise
Not necessarily.
The last time I made a claim I waited 3 months for the dust to settle and then I got an online quote from my insurer. It was identical to the quote I got 5-6 months earlier, i.e. before the claim.
My low mileage 96 Volvo 850 GLT 2.5 estate (10v) has I found out a very poor heater. The temperature guage seldom moves from the bottom and into the bottom quarter - even after a longish run. Is it a thermostat problem? thanks Read more
I have to change the matrix in my 1990 940...I am dreading it. It sounds like your system would benefit from a good cooling system flush. That should shift the garbage out of it.
Go to a car supermarket to try many suitable cars. You don't need to buy it there but that's where you are likely to see many marques/models together.
