I know no more than shown in the clip, but assuming that it is genuine, air-bags can be set off quite easily!

Hi,
I'm hoping I can fix the thermostat control on my 1995 405 GLX. It is either off or on. IE, if you set the control to the left the heater appears to be off. but if you move it just an inch to the right, the heating comes on at full heat. Moving it any further to the right makes no difference to how hot the car gets.
I happen to have another, identical 1995 405 GLX with working heating available to strip. But I don't know what to remove to get to the thermostat control or where any of the components that may be implicated actually are.
I'd appreciate any helpful tips. Thanks!

Thanks for that Peter. I don't know anything about Citroens but I can see the panel of courtesy light, swivelling map light and unidentifiable black plastic plate in the centre of the roof by the windscreen.
No idea how to get it off but the Haynes manual awaits this weekend.
Thanks!

I have just posted a link to the Downing Street petition site, which was a petition to reduce fuel duty, which affects ALL motorists, and it's been removed straight away without explanation.
Isn't this supposed to be a site that is for the motorist?
I expect this to be removed as well.

Wondering if anyone on here has ever changed the rear pads on a 2004 onwards MKIII hatch? From reading the Haynes manual, I reckon I need both a left hand and a right hand piston rewind tool.
Anyone ever done the job who can comment?

Use copperslip not silicone grease
>>
If you are going to contradict it is probably worth giving some rationale.
You can use copaslip though they have silicone grease from new and the caliper repair kit also features silicone grease.
To be clear, I am talking about the caliper sliders under the rubber boots, you should certainly use copaslip on the back of the pads etc.
Has anyone else noticed the increasing number of vehicles on the roads with faulty lights? I'd estimate that a good five per cent have only one headlight working, quite a few more only one rear light, and perhaps ten per cent have faulty brake lights.
Add to this the drivers who think that side lights (or as the Americans more accurately call them, parking lights) are sufficient illumination in rainy conditions or on floodlit roads, the ones who go the other way by leaving front and rear fog lamps on when visibility is clear, and those dopey few who think that metallic paint is also fluorescent so they don't need lights at all, and it's a wonder we don't get even more accidents!
In this age of relentless prosecutions for speeding, using mobiles at the wheel and throwing fag-ends out of the window, aren't the police missing out on a major source of easy revenue?
Correct me please if I'm mistaken, but in some European countries is it not mandatory to carry spare bulbs? I know Renault dealers sold them years ago, so why has this one excellent European initiative not been pursued?
Question; how many of you check your lights on a regular basis? Read more
Since my new car arrived two months ago its had
Washes None
Oil check once
But it's not your car, it belongs to a lease firm and is simply a white good - a tool to move you from A to B.
shoespy probably owns his own car, picked it becuase he likes it, and considers it to be more than simply a method of transport. He does if he's anything like me, anyway.
Hello, I have a `95 Cavalier and since i bought it 6 months ago the air vents in the centre of the dash board only blow cold air. The side vents and screen demisters blow warm air no probs. Any ideas where to start looking? Thanks Jaime. Read more
Having owned a Mk 3 Cavalier for 15 years but not driven one for 3 years I dimly recall the centre vents giving out hot air only when the heater slider was on full heat - cold air on any other setting.
I was driving into an out of town shopping centre just outside Leicester this afternoon, and when I turned onto the access road I noticed a large plain white van parked right in the centre of the road across the chevrons that lead from the end of the centre railing. This was a long wheelbase van and so the front wheels stuck out onto the road itself as the chevrons narrowed towards the centre line. The van had hazards on, and I noticed through the back windows that there were two cameras that appeared to have three lenses each aimed at the access road.
When I'd parked I approached a police mobile unit sat in the carpark for the public to access and asked the officers if the van was anything to do with them. They said it was a traffic operation of some sort, so I asked why it was parked in such an inappropriate place and using hazards in a way that it shouldn't. One of the officers said they weren't working with that team and couldn't tell me any more, but that when they'd just driven past the van looked fine as it was. At this point somebodt with them wearing normal clothes interrupted and advised me to go and speak to the people in the van if I had a complaint. Unfortunately on the way out I checked and there didn't seem to be anyone inside.
Surely there should have been some sort of indication as to the nature of the van as it appears that recordings were being made with no signs to indicate why? At the very least I wouldn't expect it to have parked somewhere that a member of the public wouldn't be able to without breaking the law. Read more
Our traffic system definitely leaves a lot to be desired.. like a traffic system, for a start! I rate it as being almost as bad as Nottingham and Birmingham for someone who isn't familiar with it (but nowhere near as awful as Leeds).
There are roadworks everywhere at the moment and we've suffered a good six months of disruption on almost every major route into the city. There seems to be no agreement between the city and county over how to schedule work either, so schedules often clash badly and cause chaos.
The one way system can be a pig, and the ridiculous act of signposting carparks in 'compass point' zones was utterly bizarre - I couldn't honestly tell you where the zones are (despite knowing all of the carparks in them) and there's nothing at all in the makeup of the city to suggest where the boundaries lie. Hopefully the pedestrianisation of a lot of central streets will make the remaining roads clearer, and the new highcross centre will give ailing visitors a get out clause on the main ring road so they don't have to venture further.
It's a shame really - I dislike the centre immensely, but whever I take visitors out and about and show them what sits two of three streets away from the obvious they can't believe it :)
I understand the concept where any road with street lighting X? yards apart is automatically a 30 limit, unless repeaters are posted to show some higher limit. I drive regularly along a road which is/was a normal 60 mph limited country 'A' road, with no lighting. Now some '50' signs have appeared but there are no repeaters at any interval and people joining the road from a side turning would not be aware of this new limit. Question - if a road is given a limit lower, or higher, than the one that would appear to be legal, at what minimum interval should repeater signs be put put, in order to meet the law, please?

The vast majority (a huge percentage) of profit at a Merc dealer comes from bonus. ie parts purchases, new unit purchases and used unit purchases meeting target thresholds set by the manufacturer. These are then restricted based upon the dealer meeting standards in building fabric and customer service levels monitored by mystery shop and customer questionnaires (called CSI).
Once the target purchases of used vehicles has been met, (the target is set to allow central merc hq to dispose of large fleets off of their financed schemes) the dealer merely has to dispose of the vehicles and their trade ins in a relatively efficient way. Yes they may make a loss or dispose at cost if they need floor space, but it is more likely when the market is flooded with trade ins at reg change time, rather than at end of year.
in my merc experience the used target is relatively easy to achieve, so it would have been met back in the summer/autumn.
