My better halfs 1997 Ford Ka 1.3 has a water leak on the NSF only, I have sealed around the windscreen , but this did not work, so dont know if its the door seal or the inside of the wing, the car does not have a sunroof, all other footwells are ok.
There is another site which states this as a common fault, they want £12 to register before letting you know where the probable fault is, thought ot would be better to try the cheaper option first.

Quite agree kush. Much nicer.
Why not just try it, get busted for some moronic technical reason, complain here and then read the welter of carp about how you've committed a criminal offence, done something awful, sucked up to satan and generally insulted all that right-thinking elements hold dear?
That would cheer you up no end. And me, because I'd be out of the firing line.
Go for it!
Got myself a replacement set of pads and disks for the Modus - plan to fit them during the 'spare' time I have in between Xmas and the New Year.
I've fitted a fair few disks and pads in my time - anyone know of any special tools or procedures that I will need to be aware of, or should it be a simple job?
{year and engine details obtained from a forum search as we like those details included in the header in case there are any differences with age / engine size of the vehicle and question being asked. Assuming I have got info correct? - DD} Read more
I don't know if it's the same on the Modus, but the Scenic is apparently prone to flipping its master cylinder seals when you push the piston back in. The recommended method is to clamp the flexible hose with a pair of hose clamps, and then crack the bleed nipple open as you push the piston back in. I'm going to need to do this job soon on ours.
Cheers

Just saw end of TV ad, with this offer.
Cliked on their site & it shows 'selected' models, only, but some reasonably attractive deals.
As I've not got one yet, wondered if their choice matched other Broomers ideas of a 'good' one to buy?

I've noticed that when I have the satnav on and visible I'm tailgated constantly (despite no change in my driving behaviour) and people tend to overtake dangerously - presumably under the assumption that I don't know where I'm going and may choose to start dithering at any point. On one occasion I placed the satnav on the right of the windscreen because I couldn't get it to stick in the centre following a bad freeze, and noticed a lot less less tailgating - the satnav itself wasn't as visible from behind in that position and I would imagine that had a lot of tdo with it. I've been in cars with other people who spot satnav users ahead and drift in to 'tourists' mode.
I calculate that roughly 10p a litre has gone on fuel this last few weeks around here. I get through about 40 litres a week so thats £4.00. extra. A month thats £16.00, so a year thats almost £200.00. With two cars running at about the same mileage thats £400. If you are loaded its nothing but what does it do to a family on an average income bringing up youngsters? Brings to mind straws and camel's backs................. Read more
Wonderful thing is the older trucks being kept - they pollute more and do less MPG another well thought policy from HM Govt!! "
Let me explain this coment further ..... A 2004 Truck does just over 8.O MPG However these are leased and so they will returned to the manufacturer at won't be replaced dueto the down turn in the economy.
We also have so 2002-03 trucks which only do 6.75 to the gallon loaded about 7.5 on a good day these are owned and being kept. HM Govenement tax rises actually force us to retain older machines rather than be able to invest our profit in new vehicles. I would doubt whether we will make more than 4% at the end of the year effectively we could sell up and put the money in Northern Rock and get a better return on investment - 67 Jobs directly would go but "we've never had it so good" acccording to Gordon B.

hope someone can pinpoint this pretty much, before i shell out a few quid to get it fixed.
i pulled up to a junction normally down the gears, 4-3 then 3-2, then stopped at some lights, as i pulled off normally i went for third and it wouldnt go in. i got the car to the side of the road and called the robbing fellows 'rac' they hauled it back to my house and said it was unusual because they couldnt get it in any gear. normally the five speed box has been slick as any other car ive owned. i limped it back to my other address using 3rd and 4th because i couldnt get it across the gate, eg 2-3 and got my dad to have a look, he was suspecting engine mounts but it wasnt that after checking with jacks etc
took it the local garage where he said it was either low on gearbox oil or selector box under gearstick was chuffed. he filled the gearbox up with 2 litres!!! obviously to the fill mark. now it is way better but second to third or any change across to either 3rd or 4th results in fishing for gears and a rather less than pleasing jump as the revs pick up from idle from the lengthy change, have i done some damage in the gearbox does anyone reckon??
the gears still function properly and no pop outs or grinding and no noises from the box at all, selector rods under car are fine, checked and garage checked
i like to think i know a bit about cars having worked on my own for the last 12 odd years but have never had to deal with gearbox problems before.
thanks for any ideas/solutions

I currently have a 306 estate hdi in mint condition with 178,000. The only thing not working on the car is the aircon as it was too expensive to fix.
According to parkers the value is around £2500 for a this car in 'poor' condition.
(Good cond is £2800).
I love the car and its been great. The only thing is that im planning on getting my 1st house within the next 18 months and expect to not have the luxary of being able to afford another car for a while.
My train of thought is do I get another car now while I have some cash (and time to save up again before I buy a house) and while the car still has some value, or do I keep running it in the hope of it staying reliable (but taking into consideration the miles)
any advise welcome.
Also I have enjoyed the space of an estate and it came in useful a lot when I first bought it. However recently Ive not needed it that much so I am considering a smaller car with foldable seats or another estate. Im also interested in auto boxes due to heavy traffic these days.
thanks Read more
Now really isn't the time to buy a house or get a mortgage! There isn't much noise about it at the moment but the run on Northern Rock was unprecidented & there is uncertainty in the city. According to my friend who is a partner in one of the largest banks before you ask. Wait 12 months is a sensible view, especially as a lot of 2 year fixed rates are going to end next year, people will be unable to pay theire mortgages & there will be high levels of reposetion.
Regarding your car, if you know it's good, it's worth more to you than it will be to anyone else & the cost of change will be high so I'd stick with it if you're saving up.
I stand a chance of a job which comes with a company car (Passat 1.9 Tdi)
I have a 2 month old C4 Picasso with just over 2000 miles on the clock. It is a 2.0HDI Exclusive with EGS.
Having both is not possible. So, bearing in mind the permutations of tax on co' car, available for private use, no road fund license or insurance to pay, depreciation of Citroen value, laying it up for duration(?).....oh, dear me....what to do, what to do?
If I sell the Citroen, how much do I stand to lose?
What would you do?

Hi All, The driverside seat belt on Civic is very slow to retract when removed and often gets caught in the door. Honda want £250 to fix as have to replace the whole set up! Is there anything i can do to improve the retraction performace as it is workign just rather slowly.
I did a google search and in the US honda offer a lifetime warranty on belts and repair FOC - and so they should. Does anyone know if this applys in the UK or not?

pull the belt all the way out and spray it with silicone lubricating spray - then let it go back, but pull out several times to get the silicone into the reel.
the silicone spray really works well.in and out about 10 times whilst spraying on silicone made mine retract faster than new

saw a ka the other week with a full webasto cloth sunroof fitted,i looked to see if the windscreen was cracked but it wasnt so you may well be able to fit an aftermarket leaky sunroof if you wish, just dont try it on an old avenger
back to the story so far.........
if you take the plastic scuttle trim out being careful not to crack the windscreen as the plastic is in a game of two halves, you will probably find that you have corrosion on the bulkhead here where it meets the heater fan and the pollen filter.lashings of gob should do the trick as a structural repair on a ka of this vintage would be uneconomic
they do corrode where the floor meets the bulkhead as well so worth checking as saided.
The old hole in the floor pan with a sharp screwdriver should do as a cheapest repair, put rubber mat over while counting small change and driving though and also warn passengers to watch out for frozen sheet of ice if they enter feet first during our current ice age period as it is at the mo (global moaning must be on its jollies)
