There was an accident today and there were long queues, it took me ages to get home. One impatient Golf driver decided to overtake one car that was waiting at the roundabout. He did it with wheels spinning, in the hatched area and hit a small branch as he passed. As he went around the roundabout he took off somebodies bumper! Unfortunately the Golf didn't seem to loose anything, but he really did deserver to have an 'accident'.
He picked up the other persons bumper and gave it to the other driver lol, and the way he behaved it was as if it was an every day thing. I saw him writing stuff down, so I suspect that he did the right thing. He looked like a complete idiot though. Unfortunately the other car may have been a write off because it wouldn't have been worth much. It's always the innocent that get the problems isn't it? Read more

I have a K reg. Nissan Sunny auto. which I paid peanuts for about 5 years ago. It has been exellent cheap transport but now the electric windows have stopped working. I have checked the fuses and they are all OK. Any suggestions would be appreciated

If the relay box sheds no light, it could be a faulty switch - I had a faulty switch on my old Sunny which killed the windows despite there being a working switch on the other side of the car! Can buy the little panel with switches on from a scrapyard for a few quid.

Basingstoke conservatives promised if they won the local election that they would remove humps from a local road. This road had an excellent safety record before the humps and all the humps have done is infuriate residents. A large petition was ignored by the incumbent party and all opposition poo poohed. The council now says it is going into consultation which means procrastination and no action. We have the most anti car council in the entire country unless of course you know of one worse. Read more
on the eastern side of Dunfermline a new housing estate was/is being built. the main road through it had mini-roundabouts and chicanes along its length. After the first few ambulances and fire engines that had to go along it in an emergency were seriously delayed the locals were up in arms. The obstacles have now been removed.

A couple of days ago I got an insurance quote from gocompare, the comparison site advertised on the TV. Since then, I've had 6 spam emails, one letter, and 14 (yep, fourteen!) phone calls from the various insurance companies following up on the quote. Obviously, when this thing autocompletes the form it doesn't tick the "do not contact me" box. It's driving me up the wall - I was fairly unpleasant to the last person who called and the phone is now switched off.

Dont waste your time. By the time the laser detector has alerted you, you are already nicked. sell it back on e-bay. The only ones that work are the laser blinders.

Question:
Can engines develop a ?taste or preference? for certain ?brands? of fluids, although the fluids ?specs? may be identical?
The reason I ask is;
Last year I sold a Guy my pristine 50hp Evinrude outboard, (2-stroke) that I have owned from new, and lovingly pampered all the time I had it (12 years). I have only ever used ?quicksilver? oils in it, starting with TWC1 when I first bought the engine and as oils developed, ending up on TWC111.
Today, the guy who bought it from me, came round complaining that he had only used it four times, and wasn?t happy with it because it sounded like a ?bag of nuts and bolts? and he didn?t fancy going out to sea with it.
Naturally I was dumfounded! But agreed to go with him and listen to it whilst he started it, yep! It sounded awful, coarse, uneven, Smokey, and struggled to idle at all.
All ?seemed? to be ok mechanically though, and in desperation I emptied the tank into a container, went to the garage and bought some fresh petrol, (and a litre of Quicksilver). He didn?t want to pay me for the oil, as he said he?d plenty of ?Valvoline?, but the difference was absolutely amazing! After a couple of minutes rough running, the ?Qicksilvered? petrol started coming through, and she just settled down and purred!
Needless to say I know where there?s a barrel of oil going cheap!
So, do engines develop preferences or are certain ones just downright fussy?

Short holiday actually. I've been checking out what the legal requirements etc are and have downloaded some useful stuff from the AA website. I've figured that I need or that it would be advisable to carry:
- Original reg and insurance docs (insurer will be informed)
- Reflective jacket
- Warning triangle.
But there's no mention of spare bulbs (which I thought there might be). Any Backroomers with some useful knowledge and/or advice for me? (BTW I did a site search on this and one other thing and the facility seems to be having a day off..) Read more
To go back to the original question:
Something to be aware of is that the use of cruise control is illegal on Belgian autoroutes.
Sorry if too late for your trip...
I am thinking about buying some engine flush to add to my next oil change, the car I have just bought seems to have missed oil changes for the past year or two. The dealer did an oil change but already after a week it is turning black with dirt. Forte seems to be a quality flush product, is it worth it or better to do more frequent oil changes every 3k and let the oil clean things out using detergents? I am more worried about loosening debris or damaging the engine with a flushing agent. Read more
Cheers, thanks for the suggestions. I think I will take DP's advice and do another oil change asap and then monitor things, see how much muck is in there when I drop the oil. I usually change it at 6 month intervals anyhow.

i wish someone would write my fiesta off , i know its possible to arrange an accident as in hang around in a parked situation in a one way street and wait for an idiot to come down the wrong way then pull out... bingo, banged to rights, not ethical but possible ..just a thought
