In February, if proposals are approved, cars that emit less than 120g CO2 will be allowed into the congestion zone free of charge.
But the worst offenders will have the daily fee increased from £8 to £25 from October.

I think had a prototype in the gutless Kangoo I rented on holiday once, nothing else could explain its dismal performance

More seriously, I often read stories about super batteries that have just been developed, then it is pointed out that the cost is so high that it is not feasible.
Like with many new technologies much of the ingeniuty lies with the scaling up of the manufacturing process to make the product cheap enough to have an impact...
RW DVD's for example...
If a cheap high capacity battery suddenly came on the market then it would be only a matter of years before the petrol/Diesel engines started to dissappear from show rooms...
then decades before the National grid and power stations could cope with the extra demand!
I have had trouble with a coolant temperature sensor, replaced it and shortly after had warning signals. Expansion tank was empty and steam rising from the radiator. I filled it with coolant to max then drove home, still warning light, still steaming.
Has the rad blown?
Is it a hose problem?
Is it something else?
Is it safe to drive five or six miles to a dealer?

Now I like a nice shiny car, but the amount of elbow grease and time required means that I rarely do it.
In Halfords [note sp. ;-) ] yesterday I was looking at orbital polishers, either 12v or 24v. Does any one know if they work? As well as manual polishing? How long do the pads (£1.99 each!) last? Can you get in the crevices easily?
The only experience I have with orbital machines is ones fitted with sanders to grind off rust, in the days when grinding rust was required more than polishing!! Read more
Just 25 more years to go then :-).

Yes it does exist. I had a '54' plate on in metalic blue (light blue) 5 speed manual, 3 door hatchback. If you acess Fiat's main server worldwide and enter your chassis number it comes bak as 'Fiat Stilo Arbath GT' My local garage confirmed this by following the advise I gave them. Fiat UK dose not have this model listed as it was a special order vehicle and they came in to the UK in very limited numbers. Best manual car I ever owned, faultless over five years of ownership.
id like to fix a stud into a hole on a gearbox so that i can attach a bracket(nothing too heavy duty)
budget wise i can stretch to some jb weld or similar

Plastic Padding, drilled an tapped, just about as strong as any of these "fancy" compounds.
i am considering buying a cheap fault-code reader and was looking for some advice.
Mainly just to check for codes periodically when I am servicing my cars, as inthe past I have had problems, and there has been fault codes lodged inthe ECU when read, and the dashboard light has not come on (why ??)
Ihave a 1994 Corolla, (UK car) and a 1995 Celica (grey import)
IS there a "standard" for diagnostic ports/codes etc. that manufacturers conform to, or does everyone use a different one.
So of course, does that mean one will need a differnet reader for each car, or can the readers handle different makes, or subsets of makes - my family and I tend to buy japanese cars
Any info on this would be appreciated as I know not a lot about this area.

You don't need a code-reader; both these cars have manual reading systems and flash the codes from the MIL light when E1 and TE1 are linked in the diag socket.
For anything more than that, you'll need to spend upwards of £1500.
Hi, about 2 months ago my Nissan Sunny 1994 developed a strange problem, the fan only works on the highest setting (speed 4), speeds 1 - 3 do not work at all.
Pretty soon I'm going to need the fan working normally as my windows will start fogging up, I was hoping to fix this problem myself as I'm kind of short on money, any advice on what the problem could be would be very appreciated.
Also I was looking at other nissan sunny's on ebay and I've actually found one with the exact same problem but 1 year newer, maybe this is a common fault with this model?
Thank you
Mark

Two new front tyres are required on SWMBO Yaris - at moment 195/50/15 Toyo Proxi's are on and they have been very good tyres - I have done a search and have come up with a list and all are priced around £55-£65 each -budget tyres are not considered
Toyo Proxi's
Avon ZV3
Goodyear GT2
Continental Eco Contact or Premium Contact
Michelin Pilot Elacto 2
All these tyres fall in same price bracket give or take £15 the pair - before I go out and get some more Toyo's has anyone any views on those I have listed or any I haven't listed - tyre noise is not an issue as the Yaris is about the noisiest car I have ever been in but wear and wet grip is important
Thanks Dave Read more
Kleber Dynaxers are very good especially in the wet, which is just as well given the foul weather this summer. Both my cars have them (all round) and have every confidence in them.
I have the 306 d turbo with the garrett turbo. How do i turn the boost up. Lengthen the arm or shorten it. cheers Read more
you need to shorten the arm. do not do this without a boost guage and adjusting the fueling or the engine will go pop very quickly

But do remember that the congestion charge zone really is the central area where there is practically no parking of any description or cheapness. What I think the charge has disuaded rightly in my mind (as a non-car owner and big user of buses and the tube) is people driving from north to south or east to west etc right through the centre of town and out again. I had a mate of mine who used to drive from Swiss Cottage to Camberwell every day to work and at the time got a free car space even though the tube and bus would be quicker and generate less fumes/carbon footprint. I'm glad the CC has taken people like him off the road at least at commuting times.
I have definitely found near me (1 mile outside the zone) that bus travel is quicker/more reliable and feels better to use since the CC was introduced.
To be there is a big social equity benefit of the congestion charge - it to me rebalances the rights of those who use particularly the buses who have gained alot from buses being given more priority, road space and reduced obstructions from private cars. Buses now have a generally better image/more funding and better social profile than before.
