Appreciate practical advice plse on best way to treat a good chamois wash leather. Bought for me, it's cod oil treated, very substantial, but I don't want to let it get into same state as its predecessors - cracking and leaving smears on glass and paintwork etc. How best to start off and how shld it be stored - hanging or kept wet in some sort of container?
thanks

That's a get-out clause.

In case it interests anyone, I see the above is on offer at Halfords reduced from £99.99 to £79.99 inc free fitting. Last time I looked the kit itself was about £75 from ebay so not a bad price if thats what you need as I believe it also gets quite decent write-ups.

Hi, Just had one of these fitted via carphone warehouse as they were doing the same offer last month.
Really pleased with the unit. Excellent. Cheers for the heads up!

When in London on Thurs, got dragged along to Harrods by wife and kids "so that we could say we had been". Apart from the £14k mini sized 4WD kiddies vehicle, the only other interesting point for me was all the cars parked outside it!
What is the deal on the street at the side where the entrance to the underground is? All these fancy Bentleys, BMWs etc, some with their Chauffeurs hanging about, all parked on, I assume , yellow lines, and not a single ticket in evidence! Do Harrods have a private agreement for this street?
Me and my boy had loads of fun spotting Ferraris, Lambos etc but curious if anyone knows who owns the registration V POSH? (VPO5H).
It was parked outside harrods and when my back was turned a guy came out of Harrods, jumped in it and drove off. My wife saw him and though he was familiar looking but couldn't put a name to him?

Disneyland in London. Last time i was there I slipped over on the pile of vomit round the DoDi/Di memorial.
The tapas bar in the basement was good tho.

Can I tax a car which is registered in my fathers name but for which i have now purchased insurance for?
My Father has a weekly Hospital visit and has to use a wheel chair over a distance of 100 yards. He has now decided to give up driving, and I have now offered to take him. As I have a Seat Altea it is far easier to use his Volvo 740 Estate to place wheel chair etc in rather than use the Altea. He still wishes to keep the Volvo as my mum uses it occasionally for the trips to the dump etc. However she can't always make it to the hospital hence me driving most weeks.
I've phoned up my insurance company who are happy to insure the car we me as the clearly named driver as long as I have the keeper's permission and it has a valid MOT . The premium wasn't to bad at £200 (more than the car is probably worth!!).
Answers please ...

I used to insure my brothers car in my name to use when he was away abroad. ISTR you have to talk to proper insurer/broker rather than the cherry picking cheapo's and web based ones though.
Right, further to my previous post re 4x4s, I've now decided to take the plunge and have a 4x4 and a smaller car (which the good lady can also learn to drive in...)
But, having racked my brains I can't come up with a supermini (or similar) sized car that has the following criteria:
1. Must Must Must have a centre arm rest. Without it I get a really bad shoulder
2. Diesel also a must. Haven't got the ability to drive a petrol without revving it to death
3. Automatic is a 'would be nice'
4. Seats must be okay for a 6' person - I find the Micra seats too small to support my shoulders
I know this is a long list for what most people would define as a shopping trolley, but I'm hoping someone can throw some decent cars into the equation......
Over to you!

Forgot to add - the Rio's diesel engine is chain-cam so no costly belt changes. If you bought the 2 cars from the same dealer I'm sure you'd get a significant discount. Have personally driven the Rio and it's a very good drive - 6-footers will be comfy as well. Even my ex's dad (who was very sceptical about Korean cars) only found one fault with it - indicators on the "wrong" side. Not an issue if your 4x4 is also Korean!
I bought a modification for my car so the roof can be opperated up to 25 MPH but obviously that won't cut it on the motorway if a deluge started!
Does anyone have a views on using the hard shoulder for closing the roof on convertible cars re: legality? One would hope and expect common sense would prevail if the Bill spotted it but does anyone have any experience or knowledge of this? Read more
Have you come across the Dutch motorway plod? - supercool - (targa?) top down/off in
their fluorescent orange Porches step out with their full length black leather coats with white
crash helmets - very intimidating.
I'm sorry, if that happened to me I would wet myself with laughter. It probably wouldnt help matters!

This was very prominant, particularly showing up on TV coverage. I can't remember the last time I saw a filling station in this country.

No, I haven't just seen one. That would induce a much more subdued mode.
But there was a new or newish blingy black Range Rover outside the local Pakistani supermarket an hour or so ago that had sharp-looking, er, strakes is the word that springs to mind, parallel and horizontal, four or five of them, across the headlights and rear light clusters. They were narrow and sharp looking, and if made of the right metal would dice any pedestrian who wasn't vigilant at the crucial moment.
My bad-taste thought was that what with the RR's woooden trim, if any, a crash and fireball after hitting a pedestrian might result in quite a decent long pig kebab if you were from Australia or somewhere near there.
A lady was driving it, and she didn't mind a bit of throttle or getting in the way.
However these strakes may have been made of some harmless plastic that vaporises on contact.
I have never minded real bull bars which seem quite round and harmless. These things were like big-capacity egg slicers. Read more
Does anyone else remember how when they first introduced those front-loading refuse lorries for unloading dumpster bins, the lifting equipment above the cab had two large steel prongs sticking foreward ready to spear straight through the back of a bus? I often wonderd ho such ehicles got through the C&U regulations and it was obvous that folding prongs should have been fitted. Before long someone else must have thought the same as all dumpster collection lorries now have folding prongs.

Yes, I'm looking forward to it appearing on the gogglebox.
I think it's the same guys filming it though - just that it's the beeb that is buying the film off them this time.
That is one heavy piece of machinery and luggage to pick up though.

Funnily enough even the "Genuine" Chamois agree that the "synthetic" type are better, they swear they're better for thier health!!
