Hi guys, hope you're all well :-)
My hubby fancies a Landrover Discovery and he's seen an N reg 2.5L auto which he's taken a shine to. However, we're both hearing quite bad things about Discoveries from that era ... anyone got any pointers? I've read HonestJohn's "good and bad" points on here and its not great reading ... but I value some input from anyone here in the know?
cheers
Patricia

Can anyone point me in the direction of a guide to do it?
Cheers.

I know the engine in a 306 or ZX. Not sure about in yours, but theres not much room to play with getting the covers off and putting in the relevent dowels etc as said in the Haynes. The biggest problem you'll have is getting the crankshaft pulley bolt undone as its tight and you must have the car raised off the floor to get enough movement of the socket bar. Also you'll need this to be a good quality and sturdy bar and socket.
Good luck.
PS. be prepared for a few cuts and grazes on your knuckles and arms.
Pendlebury,
On an earlier thread, you have said that Honda publish customer comments on their website. I have had a good look at the site but cannot find this. Where exactly should I look?
Thanks

Sounds like oil contamination of the clutch plate then
why the heck when they had it split did they not check the plate at least
I have a 2001 Nissan Maxima 2litre V6,
Over the last 2 years it has had the coils replaced 3 times and the ECU changed and O2 sensor changed . car still runs rough only fires on 4 or 5 cylinders most of the time .
Nissan UK say this problem is common to this model , they do not have a clue how to cure it . THe USA Nissan website are full of the same problems on this model only affects 1999 year up models not the earlier ones,
It is long out of warranty and the repairs are expensive but futile Nissan have only charged me 50% labour due to the problems but do not seem any nearer to a solution. I have had the coils and ECU checked by independent garages also using industry diagnostics and no one knows how to cure this persistent problem.
any ideas ?

Leaving this in Tech for now with a an altered subject line. Feel free to post in Discussion as well for now if you want in case it attracts some interest in there. Bit of an 'ybrid this one ! - PU Read more
I am guessing you have had the fault code P1320 (ign coil primary). This is a well known problem on the 2000-2001 A33-series QX. The solution is to change all 6 coils at the same time. The new ones will be a slightly different design. Takes about 45 mins (fronts are easy, rears less so).
If you have had all the coils changed then consider that there may be fault in the wiring harness. Swap a known good coil onto a misfiring cylinder - if the misfire doesn't 'move' then its probably a defect in the wiring - trace it back and look for damage.
Another fault to consider is defective knock sensor - again a code will show for this.
Codes can be read via a scan tool (e.g. Consult II) or via flash codes on the dash MIL which you can read yourself.
I have got my eye on a registration plate that would go on my car nicely as it is the same prefix letter, nothing personal, just nicely symmetrical with the addition of a black plastic screw head in a strategic place.
Yes I know they are a waste of money but I have been mulling over this plate for a few years now and if I do not make the move and find it eventually taken I am going to be kicking myself.
Anyway, I had a look at the ordering process and was thinking I would be able to do it al online only to find that as well as taking money off me for the plate they also want me to ring an 0870 number to do the business, does anyone know how long the process takes.
These numbers really rile me and if it takes too long this might just be enough for me to change my mind. Read more

I'm looking for a 2nd car and have been offered a 9 yr old BMW 320i by a family friend who's leaving the country. FSH etc and in good condition. The only problem is that the ABS has a intermittent fault and the spare part and labour apparently will cost over £1000. He's leaving this week and wants to get rid of it and has mentioned that he'd be happy with £350.
The MOT runs out in November - a garage I've spoken to have said that the ABS problem would be a MOT failure.
If the ABS was completely disconnected would it still be a failure?
Part of me thinks that for 4 months motoring it's not a bad price. I know lots of backroomers are not so keen on BMs but has anyone got any thoughts on the ABS problem? Read more

Missed the Festival? Then watch it on ITV1 in August!
5/7/2007
Goodwood is pleased to announce that the Festival of Speed is due to be shown on ITV1 on Saturday 25 August, following the Official Practice for the Turkish Grand Prix. However, due to circumstances beyond our control, this may change but should we know in advance of any changes, we will place a note on the News section of any further amendments to the proposed viewing that we are given.
Shame - a year or so ago they had it live on 'Motors TV' ISTR.

Stuartl. You seem to have a mission to prove that no-one will like a Discovery just because you didn't. My summary was rather more objective.
You do not need to know what I bought mine for to make sense of the hatchback at £400 and the Discover at £2000. It just shows folks at that age/price point can value a Discovery at 5x that of a comparable age/mileage/condition diesel family hatch. That shows the Discovery is still commanding a huge premium for its benefits (perceived or otherwise).
But if you do insist I paid £3000 so had a great 2yrs plus for the loss of £1000... a bargain I reckon.
Obviously the round of drinks priced examples are just the sort of dogs we are hoping the OP will avoid by taking someone who knows what's what if they view any.
