Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 2002 petrol 1.2 petrol Punto which is showing a "EOBD System Engine Contol System" warning light and feel likes its running on two cylinders.

Taken it to local garage, who failed to find fault ( Tried new coil, they think it's electrical).

Do I have any options other than taking it to a Fiat dealership ?

Thanks for any help.

Get a compression test done to rule out HGF. Once that's been ruled out, you can start thinking about the electrical side of things. An auto-electrician should be able to determine the fault if it's electrical, and a 2nd-hand ECU from a scrapyard wouldn't require a main-dealer to fit ;-)

Hi all, I'm looking ahead slightly to our long and depressing UK winter and planning on getting a Cougar V6 to potter around in from October to March, the plan being to take the MG off the road and garage it in the dry.

I've tried doing a forum search but couldn't find the answer, can anybody confirm what the interval is on the earlier Cougar V6 2,544 CC for the cam belt, also, is it the usual story of getting the tensioners and water pump done whilst it's in there?

Oh, and does the engine suffer from the plastic impeller blade water pump problem that afflicted the smaller Mondeo V6? I know most of those owners have replaced to a metal water pump now.

Any help appreciated!

left in her yet then :-)

All depends on oil/filter changes with a timing chain. When in your ownership, drop the oil yourself between services and the engine will go on forever. At least another 100k if it's been looked after so far.

Hello, if you read the tech notes you might have read that i brought a proton coupe off my mate who had had it on his drive for the last 8 months, anyhow was intending to fix the brakes on the rear, handbrake not working then valet and sell for a tiny profit, any way, i got it back home saturday after picking it up and it drove really well, not sure why i was suprised for an S reg, any way did the valet, looked nice cleaned the recaro's up lovely then proceeded to take it the petrol station when half way there at 40mph realised i had not shut the bonnett, so it flew up demoloshing the windscreen and bending the bonnett quite bad.

Stupid i know but these things happen, just glad it wasnt my company car!!

my predicament now is what to do with this car, i dont have vast amounts of cash, i can get a new windscreen for £60 off the insurance but would not claim as its not worth it, is it worth getting this done, fixing the bonnett then selling it hopefully for £7 - 800 or should i just cut my losses and wack it on ebay with the broken windscreen for someone to collect, surely i would get something for it, 1.8 engine full stainless exhaust, recaro interior?? looks like it been rolled etc!!

Your suggestions would be good,

Windscreens on insurance are not normally treated as 'claims' with regard to affecting NCB but they normally carry an XS of about £50. Needs to get factored into your calculations. I'd be very suprised if you got a windscreen supplied and fitted for £60

Or similar.

Times are hard and my disposal income has taken a hit of late. I need to economise in all areas of my motoring and it will soon be time to say goodbye to my '54 Subaru Forester 2.5XTn. This is costing me £410/month on finance and at 20k a year is doing twice the mileage I anticipated - 27 mpg and two services a year.

I'm looking for a diesel estate and a spend of £11-12,000. I prefer what I see as the added security of a main dealer purchase and am prepared to sacrifice a bit of fuel ecomonomy (will accept high 30's mpg) for a little added performance

My heart says go for a 5/6 year old E Class of 5 Series.

My head says go for an unloved car with high depreciation, say 9-5, Signum, Mondeo.

Detached opinion's appreciated.

An old money pit against a modern car with still two years warranty I do not see where the problem deciding is.The choice is either Ford or Vauxhall which ever you like the best in looks.

The companies - not the cars

Ford has given Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and HSBC a mandate to sell Jaguar and Land Rover, its two British luxury brands.

The planned sale does not include Volvo, Ford?s third premium marque, and is said to be in its early stages.

the most recent Autocar i read, dated 8th June, reckoned Volvo was up for grabs to BMW.......

personally i think Ford would be daft to sell any of them.....Volvo and Land rover are making a decent profit and Jag is getting there. Premier Automotive Group as a whole makes a profit, so why sell?

If they were to cut the one out of PAG that isn't currently making a profit i.e. Jag, then the whole of Ford hasn't really got a prestige car element left.

Maybe their big mortgage means the bean counters have taken over

Hi

My Scenic 1.6 manual shed most of its coolant yesterday on a relatively short run (15 miles). Temp light came on. Limped home stop/start avoiding major damage. On inspection, coolant is dripping onto road through round hole in plate underneath engine. Nothing visible from front of engine so assume leak is at back of block somewhere. I don't think it's the head gasket - oil pressure is OK and no contamination of oil in sump is visible. Refilled coolant this morning and drove to garage, but had lost most of it again by the time we got there (3 miles). It's dripping rather than pouring though. Radiator is fine.

Is there an obvious suspect or are we looking at big spends? Just interested in second opinions to put against whatever I'm told by garage later today...

Cheers for any advice Read more

I have had my cambelt / timing belt changed last september by a rapid fit / ford dealer garage but from a rattling noise this morning it has been discovered that the belt has possibly snapped !!! ..... Im now getting very worried that im going to have a huge bill to pay. Does anyone know whether I am covered under any sort of parts warranty ?? I cant find any details of cover and I havent asked the garage as yet as they havent confirmed what the exact problem is ..... I have taken the car back to the ford garage i get all my work done too. Thankyou if anyone can answer my question. Read more

Well, keep them in mind in future- a lucky find a garge that actually takes responsibility for mistakes!
Your car is, in fact ,probably worth very little , so you are lucky they don't just buy you off.

Hi,

I have a Ford S-Max and I want to have Ipod compatibility and the ability to play MP3's that I have burned on to a CD.

When I say Ipod compatibility, ideally I am looking for a replacement HU that has a cable coming from the BACK of the head unit so that I can hide all the cables to the Ipod. I'd like it to be able to charge the Ipop, as well as being able to select playlists via the HU. Ideally I would like to do all this from the steering wheel controls although i gues an adaptor kit would be needed.

I'd also like the ability to play MP3's that i have burned onto a CD.

What HU would you guys recommend thast can do this?

The stereo in an S-Max is much larger than most aftermarket units so i guess I'll also need to get a fascia fitting plate. Any recommendations of who sells these?

All help gratefully received.

Budget hasn't been set yet - I guess I'm not looking for the cheapest but also am looking for value and don;t want to pay the earth.

It will look good in a classic car, but for a half decent navigation, you NEED a map.

I hired an SLK in Germany once and its navigation system was a Becker unit with basic turn-by-turn instructions. Not impossible, even in German, but a map is soo much easier.
