This is a two button fob. The tops of both buttons have disintegrated. I can stretch a diaphragm across the top of the holes with something under it to almost reach the switch etc. etc. But I noticed while fiddling about that what is left of the 'domes' seems to be let in to the body of the fob rather like grommets. I cannot believe that these are replacement parts but before I go and cause my local agent to snigger at my optimism does anybody know otherwise? Read more
Hey all,
Husband is away and I would really appreciate some advice regarding the maintenance of our car. the car is 2.2 Titanium X Ford Mondeo Diesel on an 06 plate. I have just checked under the bonnet and noticed the following:
a. The Engine Coolant Reservoir is low. Is this a posh term for the radiator? If so i have some summer anti-freeze from Texaco, can I just top it up with this?
b. The power steering fluid reservoir is on minimum, i cannot find any fluid in our garage, what specification do I need to buy and any advice on the best place to get some (again, do I just top it up once I buy it?)
c. I have some Ford Hydraulic Fluid in the garage, but there is no English on it except to say "hydraulic Fluid"; i take it this is for brake/clutch and not power steering? (sorry!)
I hope you can help as i would hate to break the car while hubby is away!!

yesterday when i removed the sump i had to drop the exhaust pipe off the manifold for access, i undid the 3 bolts holding it together and when i parted the join there was no gasket or anything in fact , should there be something there? it doesnt blow or run noisy at all but i did notice that when you cover the ex/pipe end with my hand it doesnt build up pressure in the pipe when the engines running...thanks
Missing MK. sorted MJ - other post will be deleted PU Read more
rebuilt the car, timing chain was a bit of an enigma , but sussed the timing alignment with a dob of white paint on the crank sprocket i couldent remove (bummer) still got it all in a line (timing dots) put the timing cover on (new gasket held it place with some clear gasket gunk) then the fun started trying to offer up the sump with greasy hands and putting a bolt in to start got there in the end with SWMBO lending a digit.....good news it fired up first time , i ve now gotta install the alternator no big deal, im just glad i did it really
my main job is to build walls ,any one want any tips on flemish bond?
Passing my local Vovlo outlet yesterday, the had a C30 parked outside, nothing odd in that really. But this was in a black type colour with-wait for it-red wheel arches and bumper, funny sort of red it was almost like red-oxide, very similar to that Rover 200 BRM special they tried to flog a few years ago..
On my way back from the task I was doing, there was a second one parked next to it but this one was green with beige arches and bumpers.....what's going on ? Read more
I stand admonished PU, I forgot about the P1800.

The Spanish-built Berlingo Multispace and Peugot Partner Combi qualify for the description of venerable by this stage. Has anyone got any word of an upcoming replacement? I've had three Multispaces which have been ultra-reliable and great fun...but going for a fourth this year is on hold until I know if a new version is in the pipeline. Thanks for any info you've got. I think I read in a French car mag that the replacement for the Berlingo/Partner was going to be a joint venture with Fiat to replace the Doblo too, like the larger Sevel van jv.
How do I remove window winder to release internal door panel. I understand there is a hoseshoe clip on shaft but how do i get to it to remove it?

i usually use a rag to get these clips off or a welding rod (old screwdriver) with a 1/8 inch bent over on the end
Having already used the forum search, could anyone advise methods of separating exhaust joints in situations where the joints have grown together over time and the owner only has DIY tools and facilities available? Is anyone aware of tools available for doing this job?
The object is to grip the two sides of the joint and extract them without having to cut or cause major damage to one or the other.
This is a general question and does not apply to any specific vehicle.
Any input would be welcome, Thank you. Read more
>>Owner only has DIY tools
If the joint will not shift then it would be better to take it to a fast fit place and get it sorted, certainly would be faster than messing around with a stubborn joint IMO.

We bought a Mini three months ago, a 1991 998cc. After a while the battery died so we bought a new one which was fine for a week or so, got progressively slower turning the starter then was flat. Check for anything that could be draining, removed interior light bulb. Gave it a good trickle charge and in the interim fitted a battery isolator switch which has been used every time the car has been left.
A week on it has got flatter and now is too flat to start the car.
I suspect the alternator or wiring even though the red warning light doesn't come on while driving and it is working. Is it correct to assume that if I put a volt meter across the battery terminals with the car running and get a reading of 13.5 ish volts the alternator is charging ok or is it not that simple?
Thanks,

Thanks mate. I'll take it to my local recon man and get it swapped for a good one. I'm pleased it seems to be a 'bolt on' part rather than a nightmare to find wiring issue somewhere.........
With most cars there are dozens if not hundreds about in the mags and on-line.
I noticed a 2004 Camry 2.4CDX with FSH selling privately - they were asking £11,000.
A neighbour sold a 2002 2000 {typo corrected - DD} model a few weeks back and got <£3,000 despite being immaculate.
I thought that @ 3 yr old and under 10K miles it was still only worth onlyabout £7500 - how do you set a price for an 04 Reg (it could be much older and sat in a field as they were slow sellers). Read more
The 7 seater estate was pretty ugly/bland, but huge.
Point to note, the 90's 3 litre cars are being snapped up by MR2 owners now, as the 3VZ-FE engine goes a treat into the mk2 MR2.
They are prone to HG failure after 100,000 - 150,000 miles, but the blocks are hugely strong, and there's an easy 200bhp from them with a few tweaks to timing & AFM cog.
Post 96, I thought the car was the same platform as the Lexus IS200, so maybe a source for parts?

In today's, er yesterday's DT, HJ commented on exsessive oil consumption, HJ rightly suggested that the oil consumption could be worn valve guide/seals etc though my interpretation of the correspondent's letter was that the excessive oil consumption only started immediately after a recent service (there is a reference to the possibility of a loose drain plug), i.e the car was fine before the service and has only consumed oil since the service.
Perhaps better that the correspondent gets the servicing garage to look at the problem on the basis that it has occurred since the service rather than scrap the engine.
Regards.

"they suggested the sump plug had not sealed properly"
In the vague hope that he might not have noticed 5 litres of oil on his drive, presumably!

Before everybody goes off at a tangent and accuses the dealer of fraud, let's get some facts. On the Mondeo the coolant reservoir and power steering reservior have a "MAX" and "MIN" line clearly marked on them. When the engine is cold, both the coolant and the power steering levels will be on "MIN". When Hot they may be anywhere between "MIN" and "MAX".
When the OP says they are a bit low, are they below "MIN" ?. IF not then all is OK. If they are below "MIN" then worry.
The coolant can be topped up with Ford Antifreeze or if only a small amount of topping up is required or in an emergency, Deionised water can be used.
The Power steering can be topped up with any make of POWER STEERING fluid, providing it conforms to the Ford specification and under NO circumstances should it be topped up with hydraulic fluid.
Hydraulic fluid is for brakes and should say "Dot 4" on the bottle for use in the Mondeo BRAKING SYSTEM.
hope that helps......keith
