my son has lost his keys and bought second-hand barrel and key. Turns engine fine but management light flashes and engine "runs " for only a second or two. Easy start or petrol straight into air intake runs only as long as it is there. No running on tank's fuel. Vauxhall wants a fortune to recode a new key and need it at garage which is difficult since it wont drive. We live 30 miles from nearest. Is it the ecu cutting off the fuel ? does it even have one . I wouldn't know if its fuel injection or carb. any ideas please ? my son is a student and we live miles from anywhere and a car is essential. any help much appreciated. Read more
If one were to take up employment in one of these (large manufacturer), what might be the job? What do these people do? Read more
Thanks for the (mostly) constuctive comments.
Have just fitted Angel Eyes on my Tigra A and realised the 'ring light effect' wiring is standalone and not included in the standard original loom. I have a bunch of wires and I have no idea where to connect them. The manual that came with the goods is a joke. Could anyone shed light on how I can connect up those magic rings before I volunteer my neck on my local garage's chopping block. Read more
Will try that. Cheers mate.
I might sound a bit daft asking this one - but.....
Whats the best colour combination for the new TT - inside and out?
I like red and am wondering if the dark red seats will go or just look stupid.
A lot of people are saying black, but in my opinion it just doesnt suit this car.
What would colour choice do to the residuals?
Thanks. Read more
White is beautiful on a GTI - as for DSG i just couldn't get used to it, i much preferred the manual but maybe i didnt give it enough time.
As for colours on the new TT, being a lover of black i'd buy black with red interior. If you like red its vise versa. I dont care whether my skin melts into the seat in summer, at least it looks good :)
Red and Red wouldn't go imho
Can anybody help with my problem- automatic gear box has been slipping- recently started stalling at junctions- toped up the fluid in the gearbox however it will now drive only 10 yards before stopping and will not move for approx ten minutes, any ideas or suggestions, Read more
£1000 sounds cheap! be-careful spend once & have a proper job. A proper warranty on a job like these is worth as much as the job its self!
Take care
it was an absolute pleasure this morning to go to leeds and back on t'ut M1, no road works , bit of narrowin ( 2 lanes) near sheffield but got the floor for the isetta ( bubble car) im doing up, it just fitted in the car..phew Read more
Being a bloke that loves saloon cars above all others, I'm thinking of buying a 2litre Kia Magentis automatic ( three years old ). People IMO don't seem to be able to comment on them, but i think its solid Mitsubishi technology at a knockdown price, for the savvy on a budget. I do my own oil changes and pad checks etc. Read more
Thanks Aprilia, I find that there's not much info around - Haynes etc. don't do a manual for a Magentis / Sonata type stuff ASFAIK. Perhaps there wasnt the volume of sales.
hi, got a high mileage mk 3 fiesta , its been rattling about on this web site for about a year now, currently the rattle has gone to a rumble / grinding upon deceleration but its quiet under load , 130k should i bother with a new timing chain , i dont think its top or bottom end bearings because the oil pressure lamp goes out swiftly , i dont think its clutch related because it bites like a gooden , any advise would be welcome ,thankyou Read more
Does sound to me like a dry clutch release bearing/ thrust bearing.
thanks, is there a quick fix solution , or just best left alone?
recently saw a guy breaking a 406 on ebay and i need fans for a 306 with aircon. I emailed him asking if he had any 306 fans
he sent a reply saying he had the exact fans for my 306 - twin fans for a/c model and they were the right make (ecia)
I received the 'fan' and it was a single fan off a 406, although the motor was ecia (not much use). Ive tried to ring the guy and hes ignoring calls and emails, event getting his g/f to answer saying hes out (i could hear him in the background)
just wondered if anyone else has experienced this and if so can anything be done considering the item wasnt advertised and bought off ebay and i had to send a postal order!
Its not the end of the world and it wont bankrupt me but im so annoyed as i was relying on them fans for fitting before a long journey. Read more
Doesn't seem worthwhile to buy small stuff on EBay.
It's true that there aren't enough breakers' yards these days but there are still some after all. They are the places for mirrors and such.
For bigger items, there's a sort of network of good honest Northern breakers on the net. Good for gearbox for commonplace motor in my case anyway.
Does anyone know of any battery problems with this vehicle, leading to fire and eventual destruction?

Once had a 5-series battery explode on me. The alternator was overcharging and I was about to fix it - driving it to the workshop and there was a blast from the battery and it blew itself apart. A right mess.

Yes BB, I forgot to mention you'll also need the pass card that has all the relevant security numbers written on it.
