I need to source a second hand gearbox for a 1999 Peugeot 306 1.4, does anyone have any ideas where I may get one?
I have tried e-bay and they are pretty much all for diesels. Does anyone have any contacts or suggestions?
Thanks. Read more

The time is approaching for a replacement for my Vectra B to be found. All things being equal, a 2 year old/60,000 mile Vectra C would be sought from auction. However, whilst I'm 6'2" and find the Vectra comfortable in the front, my 13 year old son is starting to complain about the lack of legroom in the back (and a load of other things as well being a teenager!). He is 5'6" and his younger brother is not far behind.
I keep my cars for about 4 years and so have to factor in their likely growth rate over that time. I am working on the assumption that the replacement car needs enough leg and headroom for me to be comfortable in the front and then for me to be able to sit behind myself, so to speak.
Another consideration is that the car should be no longer than a Vectra B (4,500mm), as it will make parking at home easier. Budget is £5-6K. Not worried about image (I drive a Vectra!). Annual mileage is 13k, so economy not much of an issue. Needs to be reasonably quiet and comfortable for my motorway commute. Not bothered about the quality of the dealers as I don't use them, but a DIY friendly car is required.
Any recommendations, especially from those backroomers faced with a similar dilemma?

Citroen Berlingo .v. Honda Civic....
I am 6'3" with a 34" inside leg. The rear of a Civic was excellent for me. Berlingo is great too, but how about reliability/quality of build? Has to be the Honda I think. As they are not the latest model, there must be some late bargains around?
I am halfway through doing the HG on my Mondeo 2litre and the head is away being skimmed and pressure tested as I speak. I was just wondering what this would have cost if I had got a mechanic to do it or (gulp) a main dealer??
Just need to convince myself that the swear words and greasy clothes have been worth the effort!!
Thanks

In anyone's experience does claiming for a windscreen replacement on insurance effect your next premium at all? I know it wont effect my NCB even though thats protected but does it push up your premium in any way?
Damm lorries!!!

I'm sure there was a thread about this recently - more about do you have to report it as a 'claim' when renewing or more likely changing insurers. ISTR the answer was "yes".

Was walking past a line of parked cars today and came across an L reg Toyota Lexus Altezza in silver, Up until today I had never saw one of these cars and was quite impressed with the styling for that year.

Auto IS200 (6 cyl) isn't great. It's only a four speed (manual is 6) and that engine needs serious revs to move swiftly.
The IS300 auto is OK (but more expensive).
I don't know if the 4 cyl was sold as a manual in Japan and, if so, whether most imports are manuals or autos. Ask on the owers club website.
Simple question, so hopefully a simple answer...
Need to fit a new cat on my Citroen Saxo. Do I need to pay out for a Catalytic Converter Fit Kit, or is it easy to do i.e. unbolt the old one and bolt on the new one?!!?
Cheers

They bolt on
get all the relevant bolts and springs etc then you can hacksaw the old ones off if necessary
theoretically an easy job
however there is a stay bar that bolts to the gearbox that sometimes refuses to budge without a lot of effort (it might be a star thread cant remember)
i assume cat rattling?
last time i fitted a non original cat to a saxo the thing failed the emmisions a year later, bare this in mind if its only costing less than £100
hi
son getting new car on a pcp scheme and has been looking at getting gap insurance on it.
is it best getting replacement car cover rather than return to invoice cover when using pcp
thanks in advance Read more
I'm not sure what the answer is either! but wanted to point out that if you shop around for GAP cover, it's available for around half the cost the dealers charge.

Follow the link to "Ersatzteile" on that site. The merchandise on there has to be the ultimate anti-fashion statement. I was almost tempted. Briefly.
