That's extremely fast. Would love to see what time a Megane R26 could do it in. As a comparison our modified MKV Golf GTi with 250bhp and a rubbish driver managed it in around 9.30.

Quite typical in the public day video are the idiot bikers in full power ranger costume slowing up the quicker cars out there in all the corners. By no means all of them but there are obviously a lot of people on sports bikes who go to the 'ring with 'all the gear and no idea'. Quite a significant number end up leaving the circuit in a helicopter or worse a bag. Read more

I serviced my 1.6 petrol Scenic on Sunday in readieness for my MOT on Monday. Car performed perfectly before and up until tonight on way home. It hesitated a few times on the way home from the office. It has been starting badly for a week or so (TDC Sensor prob. needs cleaning again) but otherwise fine. Took car out after tea and started jerking - suspected Pencil Coil but then noticed that my Petrol warning light came on when it cut out and took some time to realise the needles on my dials were also resetting and when dark my lights turned off too. It looks like the engine is just cutting out and the electrics resetting everything. Also noticed that in heavy rain from this afternoon that I have my annual summer leaking through the elctric sunroom switch console. Has anyone had similar prob ?. Do peopel think it could be water ingress shorting something out (water seems to be coming out of plastic console housing only). Have done usual checks as to battery cables/battery connections/alternator connections etc and they also seem fine. Am flummoxed !!!! Read more

Hope someone can help me ! I have a mk4 golf gt tdi 130 which has developed an intermittent fault with the wipers. When the ignition is turned on the rear wiper sometimes does one sweep then stops?? Just recently the front has started doing the same , but not all the time. Obviously i have checked that the stalk has been left in the 'off' position. My feeling is it could be the wiper stalk/switch assembly cause i had a similar fault on my works van. Any help would be much appreciated. Read more

I got the refurbished cylinder head back from the motor engineers for my 2 litre Mondeo today and it is back on and will a couple of hours more work hopefully the car will be ready to go. One thing the guy at the engineers said is worrying me though. He talked about 'squeezing' the tappets in a vice before refitting them.

I have kept them immersed in clean engine oil since being removed as Mr Haynes suggested and there is no mention of having to squeeze them prior to refitting in the manual. Has anyone else heard of anything like this? I really dont want to have done this much work only to find that a simple mistake messes everything up.

As always, all constructive input will be gratefully received!

Cheers

>>>>>The engine will clatter on start up initially for a few seconds but they should soon fill up nicely with new engine oil and quieten down.

Thats exactly what happened Roly! It started first turn of the key after I replaced the fuel pump relay, sounded a bit like a crossflow then after a few seconds sounded very nice!

Hi everyone,

I've just bought a Fiat Brava with with CD capability. I was told you could fit an autochanger in the boot, but can't seem to find the connection anywhere?

Also, do you have to use a Fiat CD player? I have a clarion one and just wondered if anyone knows how I could fit this?

Any advice would be really appreciated!

Cheers. Read more

If you look on the Fiat Bravo/Brava/Marea forum there is a complete file on how to do this if I remember Fiat orgianally fitted a connector to the car so it was a quick fix. However on later cars they removed this wiring and it a bit of a pig to do. Have a look at their forum very good.

The night before my father's funeral I picked up my sister from the station. I pulled in about 500 yards from our destinination to talk about the previous weeks awful events. As I started the car up again I saw that the car parked in front of us was plated Y*** DAD.

Hi all,

Now I have sorted the wife out with a car I need a truck..I'm looking at Mit's L200 or nissan navara..

Reading the write ups the Nissan seems to have edge over the L200 when looking at build quality etc....

I'm off this afternoon to view a 2001 plate D22 with 80K on the clock. the car is an import (it was imported from new by the current owner) so only one owner from new. It was a 'correct' import as Nissan honoured the Warrenty and have given it the full service history..

I have never brought an imported car and was hoping (long shot) that some one might have experience with the Nissan?

thanks

Not sure where you got the idea that the Navara is a better truck than the L200, but I thik the l200 is a much better truck than the kneesan.

I had access to an L200 for 4 years and 75k miles. NOTHING needed doing to it other than the schedule service.

Noticed today that when i press my clutch pedal with the engine idling, the idle noise changes. Is this normal, or does it mean that I will require a new clutch failry soon? Read more

An audible thrust bearing is not necessarily a sign of impending failure. But if it starts making a lot of noise it is worth looking into it. Very annoying when a clutch has just been relined and the thrust bearing then fails. That's why people often change them both at the same time.

Having just returned from a very pleasant 10 days and 2700 miles throughout France, I thought I would share some thoughts and observations with you. Partly this is for those off abroad in the next few months, and partly as there's not much on at work..

Travelled out and back with P&O - still very civilised, and good that they are flexible enough to allow you to travel if you arrive early. The other side, there are now far more cameras detecting speed than there were on my last visit, which was only October time. There is one about 4 miles off the ferry on the main A26. Fortunately, all the cameras in fixed locations are signed, and the camera shows up about 700 metres afterwards. Roads - lovely and smooth, and very little congestion, even going through Rouen at Friday evening rush hour.

Cameras all the way south down to Cahors and then Toulouse to Collioure (far South Med coast) and again along the bottom of France, and up the motorway through Millau. Millau - what a sight! coming round the corner to be confronted with the spikes elicited a "Good God" from me. Fantastic sight. Also fantastic was the sight of a Gendamerie Subaru parked up at the toll booths, lurking.

Run up to Orleans also fun and camera laden, together with unmarked camera cars. These are plain estate cars, parked on the hard shoulder, usually immediately after a bridge, with a camera in the back, and flashlight rather cleverly built into the tailgate. I saw 3 of these over the 10 days. Orleans to Paris (100 miles) had 3 marked cameras, 2 unmarked cameras and another lurking Gendamerie Subaru. Perepherique was OK, though I really think it is high time for an outer Paris ring road, along M25 lines (though preferably without the traffic!)

Total mileage 2704, average 29.5 mpg (not bad for a Volvo S80 2.4 with a heavy foot) and not a murmur of mechanical difficulty. I love France, and also managed 125 bottles of vin rouge... Just waiting for the next trip!

Isn't proof that you own the car (or that you have the owner's permission to use it) a pre-requisite for driving in France? It's one of the things the Gendarmerie will expect you to produce if you're stopped. When I had company cars, I used to have to get a Vehicle On Hire document from the lease company; now it's my own, I take the V5.
