bathtub tom

One of the shiniest cars I've ever seen was a colleagues old Rover 90. He swore that all he ever did, was wash it occasionally, polish it once a year, but whenever it rained, he'd go out and go over it with a chamois.
I polished mine last week, and as all it had done was a few town miles, after it rained earlier today I gave it a quick chamois, 'cos for personal reasons I want it to look good this weekend (the chamois rinsed out black water).

So, arguments for and against please.

Ah, but yours isn't a shiny car, John...

My 2002 Astra 1.7dti gets stuffy and a bit smelly. In the past I've cured this on a much older Astra by simply removing the pollen filter, which was very easy. The newer models give more of a problem but I've read the threads and downloaded Puravents instructions.

Before I start, are there any sensors, etc, connected with the installation of this pollen filter? We don't have any allergies so we could happily live without it if it isn't necessary for us.

Thanks in advance.

Change the filter and also buy a can of anti bacterial air freshener (trying not to name names) - put the a/c on recirculate and spray the can into your passenger footwell area - the spray will get circulated into the system. I've also sprayed into the intake vents near the bonnet as well (when on fresh air).

Many people do that on here... I last did mine months ago, and not a hint of 'mustyness' since, although I do tend to have the a/c on most of the time, especially in wet weather !

I've just tried to access auctionview.co.uk and the page won't open. I also can't access bca-group.com

Is Auction View offline for maintenance? My pc seems fine at accessing other sites. Read more

I'm getting worse. After all these years a new ad comes on for Old Spice, but I just don't get it. What's the lorry keep appearing for? Where's the blonde gone? And please don't point out that she's close to collecting her pension now.

Trying to trace an uneven tickover and slight miss on a 1998 1.4 multi point injection Peugeot 106 I noticed one black, sooty plug and suspected a faulty injector. I removed the injectors and the suspect one has a different number on it than the other three. I put it back in a different position and sure enough the black sooty plug followed it.
So could one wrong injector be the cause of an uneven idle?
I suppose an injector from the scrappy is the only way to find out if I can find one.
Anyone know of a good source for new one - or is it a case of going to Peugeot dealer?
Thanks.

Google for the partnumber. The Injector is probable fully servisable but the flow rate is incorrect for your care. The result is closed loop as the O2 sensor return via the ECU can only noamalise the common injector pulse width thus one pot will continue to run rich. Yes your right you need a replacement correct injector. I am assuming that the injector is the same make as another manufacturer will use a different number but it may still be for your engine, thus I suggested googling th part number. Regards Peter

I'm in the middle of two weeks with a rented Toyota Aygo. The boot's a bit small, but then it's a small car. It's a bit tinny and noisy, but then it's a cheap car. The ride is as hard as nails, what's the point of that? Read more

Had a107 for 6 months now as second car and very pleased with it Very surprised at the value for money including cheap tax and insurance. Only complaint is the hard ride, but can live with it.I would recommend it for town and short journeys to anyone wanting an economical runabout

Hi All,

I left a post a while back regarding how to get rid of the smell inside SWMBO's car and got some helpful advice such as bicarb of soda, neutradol etc and have tried both but to no avail.

The smell is of pets etc from the previous owner. When we testdrove the car it hadn't been cleaned and smelt OK- when we collected it they had done a shampoo etc which I guess has caused the smell to get worse and keep coming.

There is a vehicle valeter/detailer near to where I live in West Kent who has said that he thinks he will be able to sort it for me by doing a "full interior valet/shampoo using a bio product to tackle the source of the odour, followed by putting an Aromatek machine inside the car which fills it with a residue free dry vapour". This apparantly guarantees to get rid of the smell permanantly and is better than many valeters who would use a wet vapour which would just mask the smell.

Any advice from anyone in the know as to whether this will be any good. I don't drive her car often, but when I do I find it pretty unbearable!

Thanks

On Tuesday afternoon I will be going to collect a car I have put a deposit on - despite having not seen it.

Another thread here gives a little background as I am picking up a rather cheap 2005, 12k miles Almera for my wife.

It is from a major car supermarket in Slough who should be well known to most who contribute on here.

Is there anything I should look out for when I collect the car (apart from the obvious such as the condition of it being as described to me by the salesman)? The guy I have been dealing with on the telephone has been very good and very helpful, but I dare say collections are done with different people.

I have 'bought blind' before for company cars for my staff (with great success) from Motorpoint, and they have collected with no problems, but I have never done it myself with my own cash!

Has anyone experience of this particular trader and their collection routine with any possible tips on what to expect or what to be aware of?

Any comments or advice would be gratefully appreciated. Read more
