Trying to trace an uneven tickover and slight miss on a 1998 1.4 multi point injection Peugeot 106 I noticed one black, sooty plug and suspected a faulty injector. I removed the injectors and the suspect one has a different number on it than the other three. I put it back in a different position and sure enough the black sooty plug followed it.
So could one wrong injector be the cause of an uneven idle?
I suppose an injector from the scrappy is the only way to find out if I can find one.
Anyone know of a good source for new one - or is it a case of going to Peugeot dealer?
Thanks.

Good bit of back to basics troubleshooting !
Yes if an injector is dribbling it would certainly cause all of this, I think you have underestimated your commonsense here !

well done, good bit of diagnosing, quite common & used to see it a lot, iether find a s/hand one with the same no or by a new one.
You could find someone local to you that has an asnu injector cleaner & have them cleaned tested & balance report. I used to test thousands & you would be suprised how often fuel delivery could vary by up to 50% per injector, some makes where very poor in there quality which I think contradicted what they where there for in the first place.
Try looking up the manufacture of the type of injector you have & see if its available aftermarket as sometimes they are.

Google for the partnumber. The Injector is probable fully servisable but the flow rate is incorrect for your care. The result is closed loop as the O2 sensor return via the ECU can only noamalise the common injector pulse width thus one pot will continue to run rich. Yes your right you need a replacement correct injector. I am assuming that the injector is the same make as another manufacturer will use a different number but it may still be for your engine, thus I suggested googling th part number. Regards Peter
