Hi there, I just joined the forums and have a spot of bother i need some assistance with.
I have a V reg (very late 1999), its a 2.0L LX Saloon version. I have just had my handbrake cables done, and all of a sudden my clutch/gearbox sounds like a dump valve on a turbo, but with a loud screetching noise too every time i dip the pedal. Along with that, there was smoke coming off the top of the gearbox earlier today after i drove it home. Its paked up now, as I dare not drive it. A freinds cluctch went some time ago and the entire front end of the car ended up in flames.
Anyway, Ive read up on it and some say clutch is blown, some say master/slave cylinders are goosed or whatever. Just wondered if anyone has any ideas before I commit to taking it to the garage to be fixed. Also, if anyone has any ball park figures for these parts, if it is indeed this which is at fault.
Also, just one last thing. There is a lot of give in the clutch pedal now. At first I thought i was catching my foot on the underneath of the dash in the footwell, but it seems that the pedal is sitting higher, and also there is severe vibrations coming through the pedals aswell.
Any help is more than appreciated.

i have a 15 dci clio where the injector is puffing out air and oily substance around it ,
its the injector nearest the cambelt i had it taken out and cleaned and the air noise stopped for a couple of days but its back in it again i have looked at a haynes manual and it has said when you remove an injector to replace the flame sheild washer that is located at the bottom of injector and it also says to replace the sealing shim between the head and injector but it doesn't show in manual how this is done,
I'm looking for a bit of info how to replace this sealing shim as i think this will sort problem does this involve taking head off or what has anyone out there had this done or had similiar problem
thank any help most welcome Read more

AFAIR the washer is down at the bottom of the hole and the shim is between the injector and the head face. Once you've got them from the dealers all should become clear. Don't forget a new fuel pipe too.
Hi Guys,
As my Daughters Vauxhall corsa '02 1.4 only does a small mileage per week, I decided to take the battery off to charge it over the weekend. I ended up charging it on the car as it seems that half the panelwork under the bonnet has to be removed to take it off. Is this the case? is it REALLY that difficult to remove. Anyone got the definitive method of removal?? Similarly the brake master cylinder seems inaccessible too and it looks like the o/s wiper arm has to be removed before access can be gained to do a simple job like checking/ topping up the reservoir. Again is this the case?? Again anyone with the definitive method of checking.
As always your divine advice and guidance is much appreciated.
Thanks

In fact, most of the items needed to be removed to get at the battery are shown in the Puravent pictures about how to replace the pollen filter which is nearby. www.puravent.co.uk/filters/dispfilter.pl?id=94
I have had three cases of wiper failures over the past 3 years (2001 BMW). On each occasion I waited for about 20 mins and everything started working again. During this downtime windscreen washer etc do not work either. Last time I was 200 miles from home so called out RAC, but true to form wipers started before they got there, and they have been fine since.
BMW can find no fault and suggest an expensive total strip down of system with no guarantee of finding problem. So far the problem has not happpened in heavy rain, but I am concerned that it happens again on motorway when I cannot stop easily.
Any ideas ?? Read more
Don't think this is the problem as it seems to right itself and I've not opened the bonnet to investigate. Also, it ony happens about once a year !!
Thanks anyway
Hi,
With my limp-home mode resolved - for now at least - I'm on to the next problem with my old Merc (wish I'd bought an Audi, even my old Xantia cost me less per mile). Driving home today I noticed a metallic clunking the o/s/f suspension. A quick inspection in the dark found the o/s/f of the car to have dropped - the wheel is up into the wheel arch, I'm surprised the tyre wasn't rubbing on the wheel arch when parking. It's 1 - 1.5 inches lower than the n/s/f.
I'll jack it up in the morning and have a look for any obvious damage, loose components. It's not been kerbed or over and harsh pot-holes, so I assume something has given out through wear (156k). Any suggestion for what to look for?
Thanks
Simon

I'll have a look for brand & part numbers on the shocks. I've covered about 800 miles since I picked the car up last Friday, so they should have settled in by now.
Thanks
My daughter is close to 9kg and we need a group 1 car seat, Isofix compatible. Has anyone bought one recently? We have been looking, but very few stores keep a wide selection. The key issue is the seat will have to be moved from one car to another every day, so anything too fiddly, or heavy will cause problems.
Britax system is now quite old and doesn't come out well in tests - it also requires a tether strap in the Aygo, so is fiddly to fit. Maxi cosi is a good seat but is heavy and has the drop down leg which makes it difficult to remove. Also considered are Bebeconfort Iseos (can't find anywhere who stocks it to test it) and Recaro (most expensive) and I have found a small manufacturer called Carbox Ltd who manufacture the Bimbofix. Both Bimbofix and Recaro come with a seperate Isofix base so buying two bases would make moving the seat easier - but make them expensive.
Any recommendations appreciated. Read more
Nope, I didn't crash my car to test its compatanbility (& funnily enough I don't intend to this week either !).
& my car hasn't been NCAP'd either - goodness gracious me, what am I thinking of. Should I turn myself into the police ASAP, or should I just commit Hari Kari.
(But i do appreciate the serious point that I think that you are trying to make).
Ironically, the identical base WITHOUT the brand new ISOFIX fitting, is accepted. (maxi cosi with easybase, held only with seatbelt is approved, maxi cosi with easydit, held by ISOFIX and seatbelt, isn't)

I need some advice on buying used Harleys as its my first (15 years driving a 750 Honda though so Im not completely green). Any one point me in the right diection for some non biased advice?

As I said before, get yourself to one of the big bike venues- like Matlock Bath on a Sunday.
Loads of Harleys there and I'm sure the owners will chat to you.

Just spent an afternoon cleaning my tired looking Fiesta. The paintwork was dull, had no shine, so I decided to wash it prior to giving it a T-CUT. However the tripplewax worked so well there is no need for a T-CUT now.
My car has back its shine it did back in 1995 when it was made, I also prayed the plastic trim with polish and it looks amazing :)

If there's a squeal when the clutch is pressed then the clutch release bearing is goosed. Box out, new clutch required. Flywheel should be OK, as this only a problem if the clutch is severly worn (doubt this car has a DMF). I'm not sure which box they were using, it's possible it's the same as fitted to the TD which uses the pull clutch - a bit more difficult to change, but nothing major - or this may be the ML5 box that uses a hydraulic pull clutch. Replacment of the hydraulic actuator is dear, but TBH I don't think this is your problem. You're probably looking in the region of £400 to have the clutch changed.
Not clear from your post - did this start whilst the cables were being changed? If so, then I'd be asking the garage exactly what they were doing with your car - trying to beat the makers 0-60 time????
