Hi there recently got a xsara 2.0 hdi 90 and basically i feel that its a little unrefined, the throttle sometimes feels like an on/off switch which can lead to a bit of an all or nothing jerky progression, i know that the throttle is electrically wired to the ecu and not a cable that goes straight to the pump (ah the good old days), so its bound to feel different (the old car was a 1.9td xantia, fantastic car!), but i feel as though you have to work very hard with the vehicle to keep it going along with smooth progression!, i mentioned this to my citroen dealer and he agreed with me saying that they are a little that way inclined and that the 110 motor was the better option!. Also the motor seems to lack the flexibility of the old 1.9td, i.e you have to change down a lot more to keep it moving at any great pace, anybody got any views?. Read more
WMP 11 is an excellent programme though I cant rip to a sample rate below 192Kbps, the following linked from WMP 11 FAQs (though mentions WMP10) suggests a reg tweak though it doesn't help, any ideas?

Zone Alarm frequently crops up in various guises on this forum, so I thought the following review of ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite 7, hot off the press, may be of interest to some Backroomers: www.pcpro.co.uk/reviews/104934/zonealarm-internet-...l

Well done LY -it beat me but I have been on shift for 12 hours! Snivelling excuse!
The snow finally hit West Yorks last night. Went out this morning and the usual numpties were out who had cleared the windscreen and not much else, but one BMW 5 series driver really had us puzzled. All windows cleared apart from the back, but they had taken the trouble to clear snow from around the rear window mounted stop light! Another 10 secs and the job could have been done properly. My thoughts too on the HRW.
Hi All,
My wife has a puegeot 106 1.5 diesel which has just developed a brake problem.
When you brake the car dips at the back as if most of the braking is being done by the back brakes, if braking really hard then the back passenger wheel locks up, does anyone know what could be causing this problem?
The brakes including handbrake cable were all replaced last year. any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks,

Doesn't make sense...
Picture of the Fiesta - "For sale 1977 - presen"t - So I guess it includes all the variants - MkI, II etc....
Picture of the Cortina - "For sale 1977 - 1982" - Which I guess is just the Mk4 and Mk5, what about the others ?
Picture of the Granada - "For sale 1977 - 1996" - with a 1972 registration plate !
Picture of the Ka - "For sale 1977 - present" - 1977 ?? I don't think so.
A colleague is offering me one of these - 2002, 130k (km), lots of goodies. It´s the automatic apparently and has all the toys.
It´s a bit early for us to get rid of the Astra (we´were going to wait til next Autumn), which is still running perfectly, but I thought I would have a look at it at least. Think it´s the 120bhp engine. We´re having a play in it tomorrow.
He´s offering it to us at about 2.5k less than comparable examples on mobile.de (German autotrader) and it will come in at about 10k (euros) less than I was thinking of investing in our next car - which will buy alot of red wine, pay for a trip to Oz etc etc.
Looks quite a lot bigger inside than the Astra estate.
Plus the steering wheel is on the right (left hand) side...!
Anyone drive one of these, got any thoughts? I´m not expecting the last word in diesel technology, but maybe that´s no bad thing (thinking of potential common rail expensive repairs....sorry Cheddar). As I´m not the most enthusiastic of drivers, a biggish lazy diesel wouldn´t bother me that much.
I´m a wee bit concerned about future electrical fraility, and the fact that he´s not the most sympathetic of drivers.
His reason for sale is that a mate has offered him a Jag XJ that he really fancies and would like a quick sale etc etc.
Thanks all for any advice,
Barchettaman

Mrs Barchetta has decided it´s an old man´s car, and wants to wait til next autumn and get an Octavia vRS estate (with just a little prompting from me).
Thanks all for the advice. Roll on autumn 2008 ;-)

While of course there are many good garages.......
I have seen many interesting situations,
I once knew a car owned by a female colleague who was clearly being repeatedly done over by her trusted VW independent.
Unnecessary replacements, shocks replaced (twice!) clutch replaced then recommended for replacement again 10,000 later.
( it was still fine 40,000 later and I suspect they overlooked that they had already done it)
They did all her servicing but the cambelt snapped and mashed the valves.
I had a look under the bonnet and noticed they had re fitted the old glazed and cracked alternator drive belt.......( hoping for another repair?) I think so.
There was a lot more than this including low oil pressure and oil consumption......
Now I REALLY knew this car and engine and had been servicing one of the same
for some time. The independent had been `milking ` her for cash on repairs not even needed and I suspect using sub standard oil at services. This was in the depression of the 90`s and it seemed to me looking through her repair receipts that the garage had found its own way to survive those years by generating its own work. Read more
"had all his MOTs done by the main dealer and every time they hit him for £21 - £25 to adjust the headlight beam."
Our Local Authorities transport dept does Mot`s, I always go there as there is no link to repair services.
Been driving my Passat PDI , with ESP etc., in snow the past few days on Vredestein Quatrac 2.
Am happy with the extra grip and overtook several cars which were slewing about. Main problem was road closure or obstruction by other vehicles. On the whole though I think they are a resonable compromise.
Anyone else comment on their tyres in the recent difficult conditions?

Fitted Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2s on to my 206 last week.
Only time the snow effected it was when trying to drive around carparks that hadn't been gritted or cleared, just pulled away in 2nd gear instead.
One think I would say about the 206 is that its nice to finally drive a car with an ABS system that isnt bothered about the snow on the ground.
My old 405 with ABS was lethal in the snow, so much so I used to disconnect it until the snow cleared up.
hi all
selling hopefully a ford escort van 1.8 deisel 2 moz but it is missing like hell just found out that air filter is missing dad says it could be the problem any ideas of quick fix ideas .

Air cleaner will make no difference-injection or valves-needs compression check.

From talking to owners of 306s it sounds like their experience is quite varied. One chap I spoke to sold his 306TD to his father and bought a 306HDi as an upgrade, he hated the HDi and wished he'd kept the TD. Maybe a good long test drive is the answer. I've never been in a HDi 306 so can't really comment. It does sound like a great combination though.
