Rankin (doesn't seem to have a Christian name - maybe something impossible like Ebenezer) was right to concentrate on Fords of the last 40 years, as I think it was in the l960s when Ford decided to sell on driveability and not just cheapness.
When I was a child in the 50s, my father's Austins (A40 Devon, then an A55) were greatly superior to the equivalent Fords: Austin were far ahead with rthe introduction of OHV engines, 4-speed gearboxes, independent front suspension, 12-volt electrics and even electric wipers. The sit-up-and-beg Ford Popular was basically a 1930s Ford 8 but was still being made until 1959. The side-valve Fords were pigs to start from cold, and the 6-volt battery would often flatten in the process.
How sad that Austin went so quickly downhill in the 70s - maybe the defining event was replacing the 1100/1300 with the Allegro instead of a hatchback (like the VW Golf) which could have stolen a march on Ford.

Doesn't make sense...
Picture of the Fiesta - "For sale 1977 - presen"t - So I guess it includes all the variants - MkI, II etc....
Picture of the Cortina - "For sale 1977 - 1982" - Which I guess is just the Mk4 and Mk5, what about the others ?
Picture of the Granada - "For sale 1977 - 1996" - with a 1972 registration plate !
Picture of the Ka - "For sale 1977 - present" - 1977 ?? I don't think so.
